Ummm. Which one is you? (I might be interested) PM me.

Drop a PM to Cordell; he's got professional credentials in residential electrical work and he's always happy to help.

The forecast is calling for rain Friday night, but if it remains dry, I'll be out prowling.

Yeah, I got a few of those. It all started going terribly wrong when you said you were relaxing in Colorado thinking about things you needed to fix on your vehicles back here in Ohio. When you're wrenching on your vehicles, are you dreaming about vacationing in Colorado? I also had a hard time wrapping my mind around the terms "performance" and "reliability" being applied to the Corvair or the old Bug. Is it possible to make those cars more reliable and better performing? Sure it is. But to do it simply and cheaply, as you propose? Hmmmm. More challenging IMO than starting with another platform. And you also said "fun driver's car." Have you spent much time in the driver's seat of either of these? I have, and they aren't my cup o' tea. And I think a stretch limo is fun to drive. You mentioned family and career, and I know you take your responsibilites very seriously. Your safety, and your passenger's safety are sure to be important considerations for you. Although no vehicle is perfectly safe, how will you feel in Columbus traffic in your Corvair ("Unsafe at any speed") or old Beetle (no air bags, no collision crumple zones, hard metal all over the interior) driving amongst the soccer moms talking on their cellphones and driving their Escalades full of screaming kids? All that aside, if you still want either of those cars, I would say get it. Get what you want--want what you get. My .02

Rain five out of seven days. At this point in late winter, we get pretty easy to please ....

Welcome mat. Oops, I guess I left off the last "t." Hope to see you out at the meets. Looks like a fun car. + rep

That's got to be a weird feeling

Good (re)intro. Welcome back. I love the cars, especially the Scirocco. When they were new, they were one of the coolest cars around .... then for years they seemed to disappear. + rep

Ummmmm. Your map link directs us to southern Kansas. Although we are all anxious to get out in the warmer weather, I don't think many of us want to go hang out in southern Kansas in April. From the rest of your post, I take it that you're actually meeting in the Cincy area. If that's the case, then I think you mean State Route 129, not I-129. The probability of CR showing up there is incrementally better than it is for Kansas. Just a suggestion: if you revise your thread title to something such as "Cincy area meet 4/10/10" it might help direct your intended audience to you post.

:funny: It gets kinda hot in the oven sometimes, but yer doin' fine. Posting pics of your ride is the norm, it will get you positive rep faster. But the bottom line is that you're interested in cars, willing to learn, and want to start attending meets. Cars & Coffee will be a great opportunity to meet some of CR, see some great cars, and learn more. I hope you stick with it, get onto CR, and then follow through and show up at some of our meets. + rep from me

Well, you can't fault someone who is willing to accept responsibility. However, I believe he's taking an unnecessary risk of losing a lot, just because he won't get some basic professional legal advice. Accepting responsibility is one thing -- but there's little sense in being a martyr over something like this which, frankly, sounds like an honest mistake. Perhaps the judge/magistrate will see it for what it is, but IMO your friend is gambling by not getting a professional legal opinion. Have you considered taking him for at least a one-time legal consultation? Some attorneys do this for free or for a reduced rate, hoping to generate money if they are retained. I'll shut up now. Perhaps some of the attorney spouses can comment. Good luck to your friend. And I'm glad to hear of your career course change.

No offense intended, my friend, but the gentleman needs an attorney for advice, not someone wanting to someday become an attorney. It's great that you're willing to be a supportive friend to him, though. If he is "not well off," as you say, then imagine how he will be impacted by a bad outcome in court--an outcome that might be improved considerably if he gets good legal advice. And the legal advice that gets dispensed on car forums is no substitute for hiring a competent attorney to advocate for him in court. Besides the court matter, he also needs good advice in dealing with his employer's insistence that he pay their fine as well. He can approach lawyers he might know through friends who might consider to take the case pro bono or maybe workout a payment plan with them. I'm not sure he could get free legal aid with this in the timeframe you've stated. Also, if he has to pay full fee for a good attorney, I still believe he's better off borrowing the money to do so than he would be just facing court with you and the advice you've gathered. Just my opinion. Delete if you feel it's inappropriate.

Cinemark Movies 12 at Carriage Place has a 9:40 showing tonight for $2.00. Any takers for the movie & mebbe grub before? I would suggest meeting in the lobby at 9:30 or just a bit before. Trailer to the movie: http://www.google.com/movies?hl=en&near=columbus&theater=carriage+place&ei=O5uJS8zLBoyd8Aat19nEDw&mid=57025896efa887cb&view=list#trailer Post if interested and whether you want to try to meet first for grub.

Apparently, Jeffro knew all about the quake/tsunami over a week ago and failed to warn Chile. Doesn't that offense call for at least a one-week ban? You really went out on a limb with that prediction, but it's the last time I'm doubting your portents, bud.

Rumor is that he's handling customer complaints with the recall. Seriously, that's great that he's there to meet and greet. Have fun with it.

Let me get this straight. You got both AWD cars stuck in 2" of snow, once in what you refer to as a "ditch" (is that about a 5% slope there?) and required a tow strap, digging, and a third person to get extracted Was this practice for an upcoming assault on the Rubicon Trail? I think the record is safe for now. At least you got it out yourselves and didn't have to call in your rescue vehicle (a 5 year old with a Big Wheel, perhaps?). Well, at least you had fun.

I love viola music .... the concerti by Telemann are especially compelling. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/300px-Playing_viola.jpg Strange optical effect, too: if your head appears large, pick up a viola and voilà, it seems normal size now. No reference to you in that last remark, Jones. Your head definitely does not appear too large.

That ship already sailed, I'm sad to say .... (you did notice the part about finding her body?) My condolences to Lance (OP) on the loss of his friend. Regardless what else is discovered, this will be devasting to her family and friends.

I can't take credit for Akai Hana. It was actually Eli, Howard, and a few other people posting to the Sushi thread who got me to first try it. I think it's a great Korean/Japanese all-around restaurant and has excellent sushi. The sushi place that's my favorite is Yoshi's. But it's always packed at normal meal hours and isn't open Sundays. The sushi crew should plan an attack on Yoshi's soon. I'm especially interested in what Evan, Lee, Nick, Rob (sol740), Jason, Lance, Draco-REX, Howard, Eli, and our other sushi aficionados think of it.
