Beautiful home, Erik. (Seems as though you're doing okay for someone doing immigrant work, eh?) Let us know when you're having the housewarming party.

Thinking about getting a bike...
Doc1647545523 replied to TheBussman1647545507's topic in Daily Ride
It's a lot more dangerous than driving a car for a lot of reasons. Here are 3 big ones: 1) Other drivers don't "see" you, or at least it doesn't register with them that you're there. Imagine driving an invisible car. Would that be dangerous? That's an exaggeration, but perhaps illustrates the point. 2) When you collide with anything, or fall off the damned thing, you have so much less protection. 3) Road surfaces become critical on a two wheeled vehicle which depends on traction/gyroscopic force just to remain upright vs. a car which depends on traction only while turning or changing speed. Riders can compensate for the inherent danger in a lot of ways. Taking a rider safety course, keeping your riding skills honed, learning to ride in dirt, driving defensively, learning to look ahead and anticipate other drivers' actions, learning when and where to ride ..... these and many other things can improve your survival odds. Failure to appreciate and adjust to the inherent dangers is a recipe for injury and maybe death. Despite all those words of warning, I love riding motorcycles. I've ridden for 40 years and owned 18 motorcycles. I'm in the BMW 200,000 mile club and I've ridden in two Iron Butt rides (one on a Ducati 999). I've come off the bike 3 times: twice at under 5 mph and once on a private gravel lane. My 2 cents' worth. I'm sure others may differ. "There are old riders and there are bold riders. But there are no old, bold riders. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/aimhigh.jpg -
:eek2: Could the Apocalypse be far behind ? Hope to meet you at the track day, Robert. Good intro. + rep

Yessirs, boss.

Superb :grin2: I need to stop watching it or I'll pee my pants.

Thanks for the thought. Well, the cops impounded the Buick and I've got the transmission out of the El Camino, but never fear ..... if I can get the Geo started I'll be there!

The switch on the forward side (towards motor) of the center console is for the optional power locks. The button on the right of the steering column, when pressed very briefly, resets the odometer. If pressed and held, it slowly dims, then slowly brightens the dash lights. If you press both buttons simultaneously and hold your mouth just right, the VTEC kicks in. :zoom: -
Yessir. Very likely a Saturday, beginning at 3 or 4 and running at least until 8 p.m. A number of folks work on Saturday and can't leave until 5 p.m., whereas some members have smaller children they want to bring and would rather do something earlier in the day so that they can be home before dark. If the weather boxes us in, I could see possibly moving things to a Friday or a Sunday, but Saturday seems to be better for most. I'm sure someone will be inadvertently excluded by whatever date we choose, but I don't know any other way to plan a weather-dependent event such as this. In that way, it's like our track days. But I hope that we get beautiful weather and that everyone finds it worth the little extra distance (I'm 13 miles northwest of Polaris).

Great idea. There's plenty of parking lot and it should be empty on a Saturday. If everyone who has tentatively agreed to come actually shows up, I promise there will be some cars there that you'll probably have never seen except in photos. Weather will be the key issue. Since it is impossible to predict very far in advance, I'll probably not post a date until the Wednesday before. Even at that, it will need to be subject to change due to weather, because most of us aren't excited about shining up our cars just to drive them in the rain and then stand around in the cold slop. The ideal would be for this to be on one of the first really nice, warm Satudays in the spring..... one of those days we'd all be cleaning our cars and driving around anyway. Just add music, free food, handy restrooms, and some unusual cars, and subtract parking lot security--what's not to like? More information to come in the next 3-5 weeks. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help; I might be calling you and taking you up on your offers. Er, except for Wonderboy--you, sir, need to remain fully clothed for the duration of the event!

Um .... lemme get back to ya on that

I admit it. I thought I'd get better mileage with a V-8. Prolly shouldn't have traded even for the V-12, though.

Oops! Did I say I'd play Walker? I meant that I would USE my WALKER.
-
Coincidence you should bring that up. I've been meaning to talk to you about helping me make a sequel to those movies. Of course, I would play the Paul Walker part. We'll use Cobalts instead of Civics. It'll be called The Slow and the Spurious

Two days before HIN, from Hal's Thread "Let's Post Pictures of Ourselves"

There are thermostats at each end of the garage. The heaters are gas-fired reflective overhead units that do a good job--you don't lose all your heat when the door opens. It's kept at 50 degrees when I'm out of town and 60-65 when I'm around. Any warmer is really too warm for me to work in. The overhead lights are mercury vapor and two walls are glass block, so it's very bright in the day. I also have four portable halogen lights. I've got just basic tools, no electronic stuff, no air tools but do have an air compressor. There's hot and cold water in a slop sink, indoor and outdoor hoses, heated restrooms. Most importantly, I have a loud stereo. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/new%20playhouse/from105door.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/new%20playhouse/towardsglasswall.jpg I plan to have an open house with music and food provided, and of course CR will all be invited. This will be sometime in late March or early April, whenever the weather breaks, and will likely be on a Saturday from 4 p.m. until 8 or 9. I spoke with Anthony and with Brian and they said it would be okay to post the event here. There's a large well-lit parking lot if a big group shows up, and a place indoors to eat if it's windy. I will watch the weather and post here 3-4 days in advance. I've also got a few surprises that I think folks will like.

It's on London Road on the south side of Delaware. I use it for storage and for cleaning cars, so there's never a time when I'm "not using it." Right now it has 6 vehicles in it, soon to have 9 vehicles in it. Although it's 3000 SF, I have other things stored there as well and like to keep a lane open to get cars out without having to move things, and also like to keep a clean-up bay area. If you need it for wrenching short term, let me know and you can use it for free when I'm in town. I'm usually around, but I also travel a lot (usually early in the week).

Old and slow, eh As I recall, this was the view you had of Doc Old & Slow at a few drag strips last year: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/oldandslow.jpg

Just like a drift fag, bringing a bat to a gunfight :bangbang:

Ummmm, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You see, the guys came to move the piano and it got caught on an oil cooler which was sticking out from the front of the bumper on this old Corolla jalopy that I'm storing for some drift guy. What that oil cooler was doing stuck out so far from the car, I'll never know. Anyways, the Corolla actually looks better now that the piano is stuck on the front and covering up the oil cooler. So, we figured we'd just leave it there.

You're always welcome. Phone me first to make sure I'm going to be around.
