  1. There are lots of decent sailing opportunities in central Ohio, and sailboats can be purchased and maintained cheaply as long as you stay small. Keep in mind that Nags Head itself is on the ocean side of the Outer Banks, and sailing on the ocean is a whole different animal than sailing at Alum Creek. You can rent sailboats on the Sound side of the Outer Banks for an experience closer to what lake sailing is like. Nags Head has some great windsurfing and kiteboarding. If you're taking kids, the Wright Brothers monument and museum are well worth the time.
  2. That was easy. Thanks for the tip, Paul. See you all tonight.
  3. 616 hp crank? Yawn. Mine puts down more than that at the wheel. :fuckyeah: I think I'm safe for now. http://www.dragtimes.com/Bentley--Continental-Flying-Spur-Drag-Racing.html
  4. Well, in all fairness, we were driving rather rapidly IIRC. Nashville was only a few minutes in the day's journey.
  5. I've only stayed downtown, and both the Hermitage Hotel and Union Station are beautifully-preserved luxury hotels. Discount hotel sites can put the cost within reach. Each has an outstanding restaurant, and the Hermitage has the Oak Room Bar with less expensive food and a great atmosphere (and one of the fanciest bathrooms you'll ever visit). I think the Parthenon replica in Centennial Park is worth a stop. Locals can direct you to beautiful neighborhoods with Greek Revival mansions.
  6. Ben, a resource who hasn't been mentioned is Josh (flat tire) who's the GM of Thiel's Wheels in Upper Sandusky. http://www.twheelshd.com/default.asp Josh has been in the business most of his life and is incredibly knowledgable about bikes. He's the only one I'll deal with. I'd give him a call or a PM, tell him your with CR, explain your situation, and see what he says. If you end up buying a bike in Ohio, rather than in AZ, you're welcome to store it at the Hangout until it's convenient for you to get it home.
  7. Best wishes for another great season, Mark. I'm proud to say I know you.
  8. Mike, it's great that you're back. For those not familiar with Mike, he does the best car photography around. He's done my CR calendar car shots and much more. He's the consummate professional to work with on a shoot, and a great car guy. I can't rep you enough.
  9. Looks like the Hangout will be dark this evening. We'll see if there's interest Saturday night.
  10. It sure makes a statement. Keep the shiny side up!
  11. As usual, the Hangout will open if there's enough interest.
  12. Wes, thanks for the feedback. He is a good friend and he'll be appreciative of your observations. He does general auctions, everything from simple household items to land and real estate. He depended a lot on the seller's family for gun advice, as he's no expert in them. It sounds like it was frustrating to be there as a buyer. Sorry if I steered you wrong, but thanks for the feedback.
  13. Stats, in case anyone is interested: Gun auction had 240 registered bidders, gross was $79,000. Ammo auction on day 2 (Saturday) had a gross of $72,000. These numbers were lower than the auctioneer anticipated and he felt that there were numerous great deals for the alert bidder. Did anyone from CR go?
  14. Thanks, Mike, but all I did was take some CR fans to an invitation-only showing. I'm not in the market for a car like this, couldn't afford to buy it, couldn't afford to insure it, and couldn't drive it well enough to justify having it. But I can still appreciate what a fine car it is.
  15. Add enough Camaro parts to it and it might pass for one ..... that is, until you fire it up.
  16. The beast in person: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/grill-1_zps8ed30224.jpg The dealer said that this is the only car out in the public right now. It's the same car that was in the Detroit Auto Show. It's a European spec car, and no U.S. cars have yet been built. MAG has been allotted two, but has 18 paid deposits. Price is north of 300 large. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/rightside_zpsa0b1fb73.jpg We all agreed the car looked better in person than in photos, especially the rear http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/rear-1_zps095713c2.jpg Not many people have gotten this close to the car, let alone sat behind the wheel http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/interior_zps1264d5f8.jpg But of course 3 CR guys joined that exclusive club Benjamin http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Benincar_zpsd2a55424.jpg Brendo389 http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Brendanincar_zps84153fa5.jpg Geesammy http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Grantincar_zps3498a66f.jpg We browsed the other Ferrari's and Mazz's, then looked at BMW, Bentley, Aston, Lambo. This used Ferrari was only $303,000 (balance of factory warranty included) :lolguy: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/Grayinshowroom_zps61ffa643.jpg I think we all had a good time. Thanks for going along, fellas. http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/thecrew_zpsf5d96ac7.jpg
  17. I'll do that, Will. I understand Opti-coat is a good product, but more $$$ than I'm comfortable with. Addison and possibly the other detailers on CR will know a lot more about the comparison than I do. I'll post again to the thread this spring and send you a PM.
  18. Gorgeous car, Jim. One of only a handful of new cars I really love. Congrats!
  19. empty your inbox, Bud, it's full
  20. Although he washed the wheels and tires, and dressed the tires, I didn't get the treatment on the wheels. I work on those myself, although in the above pictures, they are simply washed. I wanted to keep the price low, and Addison was happy to oblige by only doing the paint, not the plastic or the wheels. At some point, I might ask him to do the wheels as well.
  21. Strange, because I had no problems at all with communication with him. He was very punctual and good at keeping me up to date. I know he's been out of state a bit, but I believe he plans to stay here for awhile now.
  22. I've been talking to detailers and reading for the last year about a new approach to maintaining auto finishes. 22PLE is a glass coating system with products for car paint, plastic trim and metal/rims. People in the know told me that it was an optimal compromise between gloss and durability without breaking the bank. Users are claiming about a two-year life of the finish and say that because dirt and contaminants have a hard time sticking to it, it needs less frequent washings. When you do wash it, owners say a soaking, rinse, and dry is all that's needed compared to having to rub with a sponge or microfiber wash cloth. I had been using Griot's sealant on my cars after a good wash, claybar, and polish (if needed). I liked the result much better than waxing, but with a bunch of cars driven regularly in all types of conditions, it was keeping this old man too busy. I read about Addison Good, a newer sponsor on CR, and saw that he was experienced with the 22PLE system, and he quoted me a price less than half the going rate for this work. My car's aren't wrecks, but under bright enough light you can see lots of problems: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/_DSC0326_zps24586656.jpg This is after just a wash, claybar and polish by Addison: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/_DSC0327_zpsc5443ef3.jpg Addison quoted me three different "levels" of correction for the car, and told me he would wait until he worked with the car before he would recommend an approach/price. To my delight, after working with the paint, he said that compounding the car to remove further imperfections would not, in his opinion, give me a very good value. So he recommended the lowest estimate! How often do you run into this level of quality? I had gotten some cloudiness from having gone about a year since my last sealing, but Addison really got the paint to pop: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/_DSC0353_zpsb18fad59.jpg exactly what I was looking for in this product: http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/_DSC0352_zpsa7be920a.jpg http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/_DSC0356_zpsa107ed20.jpg Who's that creepy old guy lurking in the background? http://i355.photobucket.com/albums/r445/martyr65/_DSC0359_zps2518b540.jpg The finish feels ultra smooth and level. It didn't pick up so much as a flake of dust on the hour ride home over roads covered with dried de-icer. I'll update the thread as I go through some washing cycles and get to test how well the finish lasts. Addison is very professional. I don't turn over my good cars to just anyone, but I didn't have a moment's hesitation or regret entrusting the Flying Spur to him. If you're looking for world-class detailing knowledge, skill, and attention to detail at a price much lower than others in the area, I don't think you'll have any regrets calling Addison at Good Guys. His basic maintenance detailing starts at $65. Here's his website: http://goodguysdetailing.com/ Thanks again, Addison.
