The way I heard, you wouldn't pay for the batteries when you swap. You might pay for the charge? Like a tesla "gas station."
Agreed, I wouldn't buy a current model. But leasing sounds like a good option.
Hence why Elon making the huge battery factory in Nevada and making future cars with easily swapable batteries. Who knows, maybe within 20 years we'll be able to power a car with a battery the size of a cell phone.

I will agree some of the comments were in poor taste, but humor is a coping mechanism that we use to deal with in these situations. Medical personnel, first responders, military all do it.
