I took my dad out as well this weekend for his first time. He did pretty bad, but had some nice shots in there. He just really liked getting out there with my brother and I.

Riviera Maya and Cancun are fine. I went there last year and friends from work were just there. I wandered around quite a bit, never had any issues. I've heard that dolphins can rape people though. So I'd watch out for that. Also, bring your own snorkel gear.

I did chicago about two years ago. This year I did the tough mudder up in Cleveland back in april. If you liked the warrior dash, I would highly recommend the mudder.
