  1. You can do the same thing with a computer. From what I understand, the DVR software built into Windows 7 is pretty good. A tuner for OTA (HD) is CHEAP.

A computer is basically infinitely scalable in this arena. If it's something you want to do, and it's possible, it's possible on a PC. You are not limited by the capabilities of the device. Any streaming device, player, dvr, will be limited in some way. At the very least you may need multiple devices to achieve what you want to.

Right now my PC can stream anything, hulu, netflix, cbs since they don't release most content on hulu... all without limitations of streaming devices. I can play dvd's and blu rays. I could easily rip my DVDs & Blu Rays to my HD if I wanted to (and bought a bigger HD). I don't see the need for that at this point. I could add an OTA HD tuner for ~$50, or a 4 tuner cable card based tuner for ~$200. I will probably add an OTA HD tuner at some point. If a new streaming service comes out, I simply type in the address or install a new piece of software. All from 1 device. My DVD player will soon be packed up and sold/put in the junk pile down in the basement. The cable box left last year.

I understand all that, but there is something to be said for something you dont have to F with through a pc. If I just want to come home and turn the tv on and watch something I recorded the night before I can do so. It even records some stuff that it think I might like based on my previous recordings.

I can watch netflix directly through the main interface also. You can watch amazon on demand or hulu plus through it also.

If I wanted to do a HT pc then Im sure going that route would work fine. Having the scheduler is something I dont think you can get with a tuner card.

For everything I do download though, I stream through my xbox or ps3 with tversity, and through the WD live in the bedroom.

This setup offers the simplicity I like for regular viewing along with being able to do the more complex file types .MKV etc when needed.

  2. I have a OTA tivo only DVR. Its a fantastic HD DVR for 4 channels :-) You can own it for ~$85 on amazon. Then I pay $8 or $10/month for the subscription service. Well worth it for me to be able to record the regular broadcast shows.

I have netflix but rarely use it.

I had hulu but the selection was garbage for streaming content on my tivo box or wd live

The majority of the shows I watch I get through uploads to rapidshare. Assuming rapidshare stays alive its a fairly easy way to get whatever you want just takes some searching through different sites to find the dl link.

  3. I would look at the APR RSC exhaust. I have their catback on my GTI, (yes I know completely different platforms) but it seems to be the least restrictive exhaust with the best tone on many platforms. Mine is fairly loud WOT but with absolutely no drone on the freeway and I dont run a cat (full 3"). The quality is better than anything else Ive seen (miltek, magnaflow, etc) The think their mufflers were designed by corsa irrc.
  4. I wanna try that really bad. I can find old dirty bastard scotch ale at andersons, i wonder if they have the canadian breakfast?

Ive never seen it there. Ive never seen it anywhere for that matter.

Ive had a good amount of beer available in this area and have still only have a handful of those beers that I can remember. All are excellent though.

    Avery The Maharaja

    Bell's Two-Hearted Ale

    Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold

North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout

    Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous

Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout

Its hard to get a grasp on how many different beers there are out there. Its ridiculous to try something new almost everytime you go somewhere, only to realize there are still a thousands youll never see let alone drink.

  5. I thought they did away with the autozone thing and did everything in house? The morse rd store used to buy a bunch of oem bimmer parts from us when they had a dedicated zone guy working there. As far as I know they've quit doing that and they dont buy shit from us anymore. Just bring their junk into our service dept once they realize they dont have anyone qualified to work on bmw's. regardless its nice they have a warranty but Id be a little skiddish to know some $10/hr kid is trying to fix my car which he has no experience on.
  6. The problem is that you cant turn off the traction control or ESP. So good luck putting down the stock power, let alone chipped, stg 2, or hell, anything.

It actually has not gotten good reviews. Its slower than the outgoing mkv gli, larger, softer, essentially does nothing better performance wise. It MIGHT be more comfortable, but thats about it.

yeah I read c&d's review today. They didn't care much for it. I didn't realize it got dumbed down from the GTI.

fwiw I think APR said they are working on a fix for the ESP issue. Why would vw do that? stupid.

  7. I like it.

And I had a platinum gray 04 GLI. Im sure this MKVI is better in every way, except for some peoples styling taste.

Im thinking this car with APR 3+ would suprise...about everyone. (425whp on pump gas)

Even with just a flash would make this a more than capable/fun inexpensive sedan.

  8. Her viewpoint is a product of a lot of things including stupidity, but her sense of entitlement is also a product of the system. Our country has so many handouts, that I do believe there are a huge number of individuals like her that feel it's responsibility of others to pay for her kids because that's all they know. Obama's plan only reinforces that. Accountability....not many have it.....:dumb:
