  1. If you're rooting for an automaker, F1 wouldn't be for you anyway. Isn't Audi still dominating the LeMans series with their diesel?
  2. It's FORMULA racing, i.e., you build the car to a formula. In the 60s, this was in contrast to races like LeMans, where there were fewer rules and they were more arbitrary. While everyone understood that all auto racing was about car + driver, LeMans was more about the car (endurance and speed), and F1 was more about the driver. That's why there's various levels of Formula racing. The idea is to create a level playing field for drivers at different skill levels. F1 is just the cars requiring the highest level of skill. Maximum speed has never been the goal, and keeping speeds in check has been part of the game since the 70s.
  3. Word. I love my Sedona, specifically how it was half the price of an Odyssey and nearly as good. I said on another forum that this new Sonata is a TSX killer. Base engine in both is a 200hp, 2.4L 4-cyl, the Sonata has all the same options and will likely cost 5-7k less. I have no doubt that the turbo version will compete well against the V6. Acura's never tried to compete with ze germans, instead enjoying a little niche for bargain luxury, but Hyundai is zooming into that niche with a fury.
  4. Oh, I see. Well, according to this link: http://elections.gmu.edu/voter_turnout.htm Voter turnout amongst the voting eligible population was around 60% in 2004, and 62% in 2008, so I'd argue that there was nothing suspicous about the turnout for the '08 election. And off-year elections always have extremely low voter turnout, especially odd-numbered years where there's absolutely nothing going on at the national level. That's just common knowledge, and anyone who's shocked that the 2009 elections had a fraction of the participation of the 2008 elections is pretty ignorant. There's also no statistical evidence that Obama's race had anything to do with anything, and I'm really sick of people bringing something up that's so easy to refute. Thanks for translating
  5. I only stop to help attractive young white girls, so I guess I fail.
  6. Honda still didn't understand Mac struts when they made the '04. They still don't really know what they're doing, but the new ones are a lot better. I stopped recommending Civics when they ditched the double wishbones but didn't drop the price.
  7. +1 on this. Kia's reliability has been steadily improving (to the point where I actually bought one), and Hondas are more overpriced than ever. The Kia will get you more standard equipment for lots less.
  8. 's all good, I'm just killin' time at work like everyone else
  9. If you're bored and interested, a member of another forum I'm on has locked-in syndrome from a stroke 10 years ago. Here's a thread where he takes questions about his condition/life: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=539322 I had no idea LIS existed until I saw that thread. The fact that he can type with his eyes and still be a part of the world via the internet is pretty incredible. I can't imagine suffering through that even a decade ago.
  10. Everything you say is true, as is cred05's snarky comment about a Veryon, but I never disputed any of that. I'm just saying, people tend to think, "Hey, I could spend 3 grand on a shitty Honda, but why would I when I can spend 3 grand on a LUXURY SEDAN," without really taking to heart WHY that luxury sedan which cost so much new is now trading for dirt cheap. And people who are in the market for $3000 cars generally aren't the sort of people who are eager to foot those costs. Note that I didn't tell him not to get it, I just told him that there was a reason it was so cheap and he should plan for the future accordingly. I really don't see what's controversial about that.
  11. Yes, that was totally my point. Thanks. ETA: http://www.bankrate.com/finance/money-guides/10-best-worst-cars-for-repair-costs.aspx I'm not even sure why there's any disagreement.
  12. Bah, you're right, there's probably no real-world difference between maintenance costs on a 10 year old 150,000 mile German car loaded with technology and a 10 year old 150,000 Japanese car that you can fix with bailing wire and bubble gum. It's all just perception.
  13. There's a reason 10 year old BMWs and 10 year old Civics cost the same even though the BMW was more than twice as much when new. As long as you understand and accept that reason and plan accordingly for future expenses, then I'd say go for it.
  14. I'm game for something at Nelson Ledges. Timing would be difficult, especially if it's frowned upon there, which I'm guessing it is.
  15. Can't go wrong with a BMW as long as you don't mind the maintenance costs, but like someone else said, don't get hung up on the RWD. Have you driven a TSX? Not the fastest thing ever, but it's so well done, and priced right. ETA: This should be required reading somewhere: http://www.speedsportlife.com/2008/10/19/avoidable-contact-18-its-actually-rather-easy-being-green-the-case-for-front-wheel-drive/
  16. Sorry I left. You have like 1 thread here and you already have more posts than me. Ridiculous.
  17. Omaha is gay. People from Omaha are gay. You're gay. Nice name drop. Do you know John Cobb!?!?
  18. For example, this one, just released: DVD info - http://www.1320video.com/CDVdvd.php Trailer - http://www.1320video.com/CDVdvd.php YouTube Version - CLICK the "HQ" icon at the bottom right if it isn't already red Full event gallery - http://www.1320video.com/gallery/ElkCity and http://www.1320video.com/gallery/CDV09 http://www.1320video.com/images/dvd/CDVWebBig.GIF http://www.1320video.com/img/CDV09/IMG_0634.sized.jpg http://www.1320video.com/img/CDV09/IMG_0667.sized.jpg http://www.1320video.com/img/CDV09/IMG_0657.sized.jpg http://www.1320video.com/img/CDV09/IMG_0697c.sized.jpg
  19. Problem is just trying to find buyer(s). Be prepared to sit on it for a few months while waiting for a guy to decide he wants one.
  20. 1320video is the shit, you should all buy lots of his DVDs. The owner is the same guy who owns Paypal.
  21. Why did you rape and murder a girl in 1990? Seriously, I already said I didn't like the program, I was just responding to your implication that C4C means that we should all regret Obama. Bush stuck up for the auto companies and was behind the first bailout, McCain would have done the same thing, we should all just come to terms with the fact that under no feasible representative democracy will a country like America let the auto industry fail, as much as we all might want it. edit: It's because the UNIONS vote. If the Democrats stopped being union friendly, I have no doubt that the Republicans would stand up and decide the being pro-Union meant being pro-America.
  22. While waiting, here's a fun diagram I made a while back: http://steronz.com/random/injector.jpg
  23. I doubt there's any feedback to the ECU from the resistor box, unless it's tied to some other function in the car. How many wires are going to it?
