I know where Greenville is. Why the move?
Chess move.

reshaping SBC headers would be a lot of work, LS1s have 4 evenly spaced round ports, older SBCs have unevenly spaced rectangle ports.
Might as well start from scratch, or just start with some crappy LS1 headers and work on them.
I remembered the two outer pipes are not evenly spaced as I read your post. Sucks. I think I'll buy someones long tubes make my cuts, tack and have someone finish them up. Then get them coated.

Just so I can get Barry out this way, lol.

Finding quality LS1 s10 swap headers is a pain. I was thinking of buying some proven Gen 1 Chevy headers (long tube) cutting off the flanges and welding on some LS1 flanges. Any thoughts?

Id start with taking it to someone else that you trust...not that dealership. An individual cylinder compression test is in order. You could just have a bad/worn valve seal also.

Their shipping prices are ridiculous, though.

Shout, show, shove, and shoot are what I was always taught when escalating the use of deadly force. There are plenty of instances where these steps are skipped, and it jumps straight to deadly force. Hind sight is 20/20 so there's plenty of folks that will dissect this case left and right, but it comes down to the man that was in the moment. He acted within his RIGHTS personally.
I agree 100%...could have been a pivotal point in the aggressors life had he been warned though. And Im not saying that he wasn't, because I dont know.

I wonder if the owner warned the criminal that he had a weapon and was prepared to use it though? just a thought.
