+1 Exactly what I would do. However I would split it between these: International Scout II - http://4wheeldrive.about.com/library/uc/ucgraphics/amunoz.jpg And http://www.dragtimes.com/images/15155-1993-Lexus-SC300.jpg Quick, absurdly reliable, and (although rare) came stock with a manual. Biggest problem would be with rust, i'd get one from the South (as I did). Best part is they are more-or-less considered classics now, and will at the very least hold there value as the years go by. Lots of aftermarket support too.

I'd double check giving out additional advice with your manager, as both you/autozone can potentially be found liable shall something go wrong on the customers end (they only teach you how to sell it for a reason). Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable giving advice unless I was ASE certified (which I more or less am, (in certain fields)). Moral of story: go to School, get your Certs, Give good advice (and get a good paying job $$$)

And I think i've said this before but at some point you may want to look into enrolling in Columbus State's Automotive Technology program, you will learn a metric shiton about cars, im guessing Autozone would pay for it too...

Not to rip on the OP but both Autozone and Advanced hire basically whomever now, almost like Mcdonalds. I've played dumb a few times and have gotten jaw-dropping advice/suggestions. The only parts stores that actually hire people that know what they're talking about (and only people that know what they're talking about) are Oriely's and NAPA (possibly carquest too but im not sure)

Dunno why more people aren't into these (Z32), IMO they are downright pimp, right up there with the 3rd gen Rx7's. BTW Parsons has one in really good (basically drive-able) condition. Sat in it for a bit, car was tight, has keys and everything, went to start her up and got nothing, almost like the starter was out. Other then that you could basically drive it off the yard. And no I'm not trying to hustle for Parsons (Saturday was actually my 1st time there), but they did have some rather unique rides, just trying to spread the word.

Yeah, get a factory service manual from Honda (NOT Chiltons junk). It will literally walk you through every step of the repair process. I've purchased one for every car i've owned.

For whatever reason people tend to gravitate towards Mechanics there family has history with, even for simple stuff. I ran into this with my father a few years back, he was dead set on taking his car to the mechanic he's been with for years even though the shop had switched hands and he was clearly getting poor service. I guess some people just feel more comfortable leaving any and all car-related issues to a lone individual.
