Don't you remember the saying about rx7's? A redline a day keeps the mechanic away. Running them too easy can kill them too due to carbon buildup. Rotaries can be very reliable, there are people out there with >200k miles on their rotary. The big secret is keeping up on maintenance on them (and they are maintenance whores).

Have you thought about wrenching on the side? That way if your back is bothering you, you wouldn't have to take on any work until it is feeling better.

Totally agree, I just pointed out to him that it has been done. I would imagine a 13b or a 20b would likely be just as reliable as a 4 cylinder at that level though. I plan to be right in the 500 range with mine, I hope at that power level it would be a decent car to drive on a nice day now and then.

It's funny looking at the RX7 group on fb, people are always saying a rotary can make big hp numbers compared to v8's and thats part of the reason they are special. I had to point out that people have put down over 1k hp with 4 bangers. People tend to underestimate 4 cylinders, thats why I am swapping a 4g into my RX7.

Take your time and do it right so you don't have to do it again. Fwiw, I have a turbo laying around (I am about 90% sure it is a garrett t28), if you are interested pm me and I will send pics. It does need rebuilt.

If you really want to turbo your car, why not do it right? And even if you do decide to put a turbo on it, you have more to look at than just bolting on a turbo kit.

Some decent tires and some weight in the bed during the winter and you should be okay. I drove an old Ranger for a few years like that.
