About a month or so ago, as the Project Frankenwagen hit a slow point due to parts delays we decided to pick up another ride to work on so here's what we found! A little back story, this car was one of those "ran when parked" stories that almost never turn out to be true. Body is in pretty solid shape, interior is nice, its in the correct color and style but the engine wouldn't turn over. After sitting for a year due to the owner not having the time/money/energy to fix it we took a gamble yanked it out of the garage and onto the flat bed. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/LucoreRacing/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150429_172229_100_zpspnvissix.jpg That evening after a short dinner/beers break we returned to the shop and decided to take a look at what we had purchased. One thing lead to another and the front end came off, engine came out, and the inspection began. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/LucoreRacing/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150430_093612_zps2bdgotlk.jpg http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/LucoreRacing/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150430_143340_zpsdmmqquvf.jpg Unfortunately at this point we begin to notice a few things. The left front corner rides low, discover a snapped coil spring and destroyed strut. Also in this corner we find a badly mangled intercool pipe, the bracket holding the massive FMIC also is bent...along with the FMIC.. So with the engine removed she goes on the back burner for a bit as we assess damage and start a build list. Tear down info coming in the next post!

Open source is definitely the way to go, the only downside to it is when you change/upgrade you have to go back in for another tune and lay out some more money. Versus with the AP route you can just reflash with your new stuff and be ready to rock and roll. I'll toss up a Build thread for it so I can post some pictures

CTD is no longer tuning, believe there are new things coming from Eric S in the very near future Turn In does great work, have a friend picking up his 2015 STI from them on Saturday after doing a new fuel system, some exhaust work and setting it up for E85 seems like they have done an excellent job. AND they communicate! Slowmo certainly has the rep and the history to do some great work for you. Anything up to "stage 2" stuff the AP does a decent enough job, the problem you will run into is when you go beyond that or start making something more mix and match. Our Sportwagon we are finishing off this weekend is running a AP with their Stage 3 tune, will let you know how that goes

Should probably give Lucore Automotive in Plain City a call and see if they could help you out, I hear they are pretty useful with that kind of thing 614-873-4470 -

We are on it as our shop page, not sure if we are going to make a more "Performance Oriented" page or not..

Beginning the build of a black one next week if you are in the market it will be for sale by end of June. Depending on who steps up and wants it first we can build it several different ways.

Not 100% sold on the sound of this motor and exhaust, just doesn't warble correctly... but....

Well wheels and tires are about the only thing left to do, dialed in the suspension last week and she's most certainly a fun little shit hauler. Somewhere in the range of what would be considered a STi stage 2, decent power for having some fun but still getting 25mpg! And yes, the previous turbos pushed some metal shavings and bearing material through the screens and into the entire system which was quite a fun issue to fix. But now she's running happy and healthy I CAN report that a modified Evo 8 does not run away from it in technical testing

That's the big surprise that it's gone DOWN in price versus up which is your more typical situation. Those prices don't put it out of the "attainable" range for many blue collar workin' types

GT500 is dead in this generation GT350 is more built for running around corners and such things than the straight line speed of the GT500
-
Even with the bump up to the GT350R that's not a terrible price for what the thing is likely capable of versus similar segment cars..

Much want? Or meh? http://jalopnik.com/2016-ford-mustang-shelby-gt350-starts-at-47-870-1707011604

Curious to see what you feel when you sit in it and push the loud peddle. As someone who's modified nearly everything I have owned a lot of the enjoyment of the ride is also the journey.. However there is certainly something to be said for a turn key and it works kind of ride where someone else has put the time, money, beers, and grey hairs into working through the bugs. A question I would love answered is how does it tickle your feels versus building one yourself? Kind of like buying a "Fast and Loud" car versus spending evening/weekends on your garage floor. Just curious..

The 85 became an organ donor and the shell of it is sitting in the back 40 still, it gave up its life to fix some issues on the 88 which is now running like a top. The 87 is sitting here looking sexy and angry awaiting yet another upgrade... new fuel pump, injectors, and ECU to handle all the craziness that's been done to it. Actually, we tore into it a little the other day now that you mention it... http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/LucoreRacing/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150519_160659_zps0ahhop47.jpg

Unfortunately a LOT of these cars over the years died in fields or were chopped up to build restore another. With a lower production run in this country plus typically not being cared for like something "American Muscle" from that era... they aren't particularly easy to find in good shape. Nice to see some of them finally coming back around in the market though.

Parts are almost all here, just waiting on 2 more things then bringing the 04 Sportwagon back to life. http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/LucoreRacing/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150521_140153_071_zpsf6xw7uro.jpg

Technically it's known as the 1800ES Wagon the P1800 would be most commonly the coupe version. Both came with Volvo 1.8 I4s, spirited little things though not fast by any means. Depending on the carb setup the are in the 75-90HP range. Have had both of those previously and currently there's a... http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b452/LucoreRacing/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150505_160801_615_zpsidgv7qsu.jpg Sitting out back just about to go under the knife and be brought back to life. As far as fun cars they can be pretty cool but there's certainly some random weirdness however not OVERLY difficult to find parts for as they used common motors for like a decade and their suspensions were quite popular as rally/race cars back in THE day.

Could stick some clear glue in the hole for you However that kind of fix wouldn't come with much of a warranty
-
She's coming along, suspension should be arriving late today not sure we'll have time to put it all together before Friday night but we'll see. As a cruise around car she's remarkably well behaved until you put your foot into it. Hey who doesn't need a 12 second shop car?

Feel free to swing in any time Brian, whether not I'm there the team will certainly take care of you. You'll notice a few new AWD monsters in the parking lot lately...
