  1. That's the fortunate part of living together, splitting expenses and 2 incomes instead of 1! Which unfortunately makes it even easier to reason out...hell if I just cut out a few nights of dining out a month I could easily absorb a car payment...besides...think about the fuel savings!!....
  2. No not married, and my girlfriend just about shot me when I told her. I've learned through observation that Wives/Kids tend to cut into my toy budget/play time so I've stayed away from that at least for the moment. However...it was a perfectly reasonable car right? You NEED to have a reliable DD that's adult...and well the 4Runner as a DD just drinks gas...
  3. NO! I didn't even want to add this one, I stopped to show my mother the Camero they have sitting in the corner spot then spotted the black devil sitting one row back. I think maybe its a personality weakness that I can legitimize another car...you need different ones for different occassions right? DD, Winter Ride, Race Car, Fair Weather Cruiser, Show car....right? RIGHT!?
  4. I just have to vent this and it feels comfortable placing it in The Passing Lane. Ever wish you DIDN'T have a day off? Find yourself getting into trouble on days you don't have to be punching the clock, turning a wrench, sitting behind a desk? Someone please explain to me why I just about bought ANOTHER car yesterday? Is there a cure for this..? And to whomever of us picked up the black 4 door sedan from Jack Maxton yesterday...thank you for saving me. You know who you are, and I owe you a beer!
  5. I've been kicking the idea around on my mustang, I'll be a paid advertiser for a good deal As long as we can figure out a way to keep things hidden or the whole "StockGT" name will be completely ruined
  6. +1 for non-prompted promotion! Join the crew of people who stop in, buy something, we ask is there anything else you are working on....then come back when you realize there's something else you are working on!
  7. I think I need to bring a race driver on under salary so some of my toys can see these events, again I'll be out of town so will miss all the fun
  8. Completely agree and hoping I don't run into the same situation though we are building it up with all the right parts. Turbo versus S/C you are always on where my turbo isn't always spooled, I think as long as I keep my foot out of it it wouldn't be too much of a terror. Of course I can always just dial down the boost as well if I want...or up
  9. As someone who vacations in Detroit twice a year enjoy it! It's sad to see the state of some of the city but there is definitely plenty to do and enjoy, and some of the best music entertainment in the country!
  10. Lol 600 on a 2800 pound car I have a feeling is NOT every fun streetable. As for the comments on fuel, this is all being done right with a new higher flowing pump, larger injectors though I won't be running them anywhere NEAR full duty cycle, new lines and all the fun stuff. For those of you with low 12 high 11 cars off turbo 4s, are they still fun to drive or only come out to go screaming down a track?
  11. Are you referring to one of those crazy 4s Scoobies? That's kind of cheating but I'll never turn down a ride in something fast The AWD pull in most of those that I've been in is very similar to what I feel in my stealth, there's a 2004 WRX going under the knife in my "Fleet" sometime soon as well which is a whole differen conversation..
  12. The goals are set, fun fast not terribly over the top expensive. Having never done a turbo 4 build up that's why I'm concerned on the fun factor. While I'm sure 400 RWHP will scream like a rocket down a track it may also be a royal pain to drive to the movies and back. I'm just being cautious that I don't put thousands in upgrades into this car bolt it all back together and kick myself every day I drive it.
  13. My concern exactly. I've thrown big money after projects in the past only to get it done and hate driving it. I'm not interested in driving something with an all or nothing clutch on the street that wants to yank my face off every time I come off a stop light. This thing is going to get maybe 4k max milage a year during the warm summer nights then get put back in storage. MIGHT do some tracking with it eventually though I'll have to figure out another cooling solution before I go that route.
  14. To qualify my previous questions, I already have other cars making various levels of power from mild to wild so I certainly understand this. I'm also of the generation that every time I brake something it becomes an excuse to upgrade so I'm highly familiar with that. Most all of my other rides have all been/are V8s or high displacement 6s with quick spooling turbos. As far as I'm concerned once this thing is built once I'm not going to be ripping it apart again for a while so just want to get this done right the first time. Of course, if something DOES brake...
  15. Andy good point on the powwa to weight ratio, you numbers guys always make such sense. The only issue I have with things in the turbo arena is .. Boost doesn't come on fully till 3500 or so, peaking around lets say 330HP. Pre boost you are rolling around somewhere in the range of 140-180. Is that enough or do you look into some more motor power to get you through till the whooosh kicks in? I don't want to be driving around in 3rd gear @3500 all day just incase I need to switch lanes.
  16. Oh I already have the car the question is more along the lines of how far to take it before I ruin the "fun". I'm not wanting a full out drag car, I also don't want to be buying slicks just to keep it in a straight line. I DO however want something that will get up and roll with anything that's rocking Streetglows and not seem like a pig, may see the occassional track usage as well. As a side note there is definitely a HUGE seat of the pants difference in 300WPH on an AWD platform and 300WPH on a RWD. I'll be doing the RWD tyvm
  17. I guess you also have to factor in turbo lag, so below 3k or so you don't have that extra kick in the pants and it will behave better. Isn't breaking all the time sounds nice, I have enough toys that require constant parts replacement (upgrades). When out rolling around town and needing to merge lanes though, is 300 enough? 350? 400? 700? Is the $1000 to get from 350-400 worth it in fun factor?
  18. Have the same gears in my mustang, had the same issue with the ABS sensors crumbling when you pull them to do the swap. Nearly every time it's just a quick sensor swap and you're back in business. The seat of your pants difference on the 4.6mod motor with the new gears is WELL worth having to replace some sensors. If you end up buying the car and need them let me know I'll take care of you on your parts. Anything else other than gears done? Miles on the car?
  19. Working through the build of another toy, currently under the radar and wanted to reach out to all of you who have built a beast. At what point does the $$$ and HPs/TQs outweigh the fun factor? Where do you say stop, that's enough no more powwa? In something with a 2800 or so curb weight, where does fun/enjoyable end and barely streetable/nightmare begin? Origionally this little project was just a fun kick around car(still top secret don't ask) however now that we've begun tearing the engine down and doing some refreshing...other ideas are popping into my head. So, talk me down of the fiscal cliff of more $$$ more powwa...or help me leak to my turbocharged doom. :gabe:
  20. Definitely would have liked to see more mildly realistic car stuff. I enjoy the over the top car stunts as much as everyone else does but a few "could happen" moments are always appreciated. Would be cool to see some actual street racing maybe? Otherwise I enjoyed it, did some revving and a burnout in the parking lot and will attend as many of these as they care to produce.
  21. Just doing what you should be able to expect from a parts supplier. Appreciate the Kudos though sir!
  22. Oh fine, you try to enjoy that beach while we are all up here taking amazing pictures enjoying exhaust fumes and pretending to be getting our tread depth checked!
  23. Depending on how well this comes off I can certainly do this again, kicked around the idea of combining this and the car show a couple months ago but the feedback I was getting seemed like most people prefer the show the way it went. Maybe next time?
  24. Anyone who's fully in on this event please PM me with your ride details so I can make sure I've got all my duck in a row.
  25. Cashed out every gift check and roll of quarters I had took my moms brand new smokin SUV and spent 10 days with my girlfriend at the time in Myrtle Beach in a hotel on the water. Fun, food, and ff... fun for a great trip. Just kept the cash in the glove box and took out what we needed at each moment. Probably one of the least reasonable spending experiences of my life but it was definitely a great time!
