  1. The new SS is looking like possibly the last "Holden" to make it to our shores. Will it be sexy enough to buy versus the G8/GTO? Doesn't seem like it...
  2. Odd timing also with the gov getting out of GM just this week. Wonder if this means there will be a Detroit of the southern hemisphere?
  3. Hahaha well we will probably be easy to spot then, that's one of our favorite spots! And their sister club Leopards...take the Stipper Shuttle! People always wonder why I say I love the Detroit area, you wouldn't understand till you try it.
  4. Hey hey a fellow Windsor visitor We've done the same the last 2 years, damn good time. Are you usually doing an up and back Draco or an overnight?
  5. It's about a month away figured I would shoot out post to get the ball rolling. Have been going to this every year for the past 8 years and it's a great time, lots of things to see and do in the Detroit area as well as some gorgeous new models (of cars!) inside the Cobo itself. Anyone planning to attend and if so what date(s)? Always more fun meeting up and heading there or gathering while up there with some fellow gear heads. As it stands now I'll be up there for the industry day on Thursday the 16th then back up later on in the week most likely the 24th for the public show. Gonna have to get myself some new pants to check out the Mustang in!! Anyone with plans to go up? Night life in Detroit can be pretty fun and rowdy for those interested..
  6. Oh I fully intend to get some instruction time, I'm a good driver but by no means the best out there. And having very little cone dodging experience I'm more than willing to let someone show me the ropes. Jones to your point I'm thinking one of the biggest challenges I'm going to run into will be managing boost so the proper placement of my right foot will be key. I don't want the whole throw me in the back seat but I've got to keep it up to keep power at the ready. Though from the last few years when I have managed to get to the course it seems very little real power is needed. More brains than brawn as it were.
  7. Well sounds like everyone here is a Mad River fan, can definitely make that treck! My shop is on 23 in Powell but I can get to either MR or Snowtrails pretty easily. Most often I keep my board and gear in my truck so an evening trip is pretty simply done after work.
  8. I DD'd my Mustang year round for almost 8 years before I start building a stable so I feel your pain. In the 90s the Traction control is almost a joke, never once put a set of snow tires on her and made it through with hardly a scratch. Definitely some moments where you are puckered up though. I've never turned one of your generation sideways, does it slide predictably or no? Mine once you can feel her break loose you can just kind of work with it...up to a point. Glad you are ok though!
  9. By far the best bang for the buck mod for any Mustang owner. 4:30s are pretty brutal for normal street use though.
  10. Should be in for some wingies and good cause. May have to come straight from work but I'll be there in the rusty truck!
  11. Was reading through the snow playing thread brought to mind to ask who all on here hits the slopes? With my schedule I don't get out as much as I'de like but there will be several opportunities for me to get out this year (I hope). Typically I'm at Snowtrails/Mad River at least once a week in the evening sometimes on the weekends..
  12. Oh I intend to get some track schooling before I make a complete idiot of myself out between the cones, I do after all have a reputation to uphold As you know me personally I don't think you've any question about my need for a "Gateway Drug", I've had the twitch for years now.
  13. Would definitely spring for the digital fit ones, those are the ones you see in all the commercials and I literally have NEVER had a dissatisfied customer with them. If you haven't already placed the order give me a call or shoot me a PM and I'm sure I could help take care of some of that cost.
  14. Anyone seen any mention of Anniversary livery?
  15. From what's been talked about there's a very good chance that the 3.7V6 that's a hold over from the current is going away with the second "year" of this car. To be replaced likely with an EcoV6. The V8 currently in it is also supposed to get a reworking, again not in this year but the second. As it sits, I can't wait to get to the auto show this year to get my hands on one. Good chance one of these must end up in my garage!
  16. Unfortunately I'm not very good at this. It's in my blood to be compete. That doesn't mean I have to be first every time out of the gate, but I like to know I'm in the running and doing well compaired to my peers. Character flaw maybe. Jones, I feel like I'm going to be in a similar boat. With the amount of Saturdays I have to work currently I definitely won't make all of the events so maybe the attitude is just show up and run it as long as I have fun to hell with the results.
  17. Oh I'm sure I'll have a good time, not worried about that in the least. Though my compeitive spirit in me knows that I won't come out and knock down fastest pass of the day kind of numbers...it would be nice! On the "Street tire" conversation, does it make sense for me to run bigger/wider with some street radials or does that put me into a class I really don't want to play with? At the moment it's just running a pretty sticky set of stock sized tires, not sure how they'll hold up to corner slinging or the new setup. This is why I came here, thanks for the convo so far!
  18. Got a text about this from a friend the night it all hit TMZ hoping that by morning we would all know it wasn't so. Unfortunately looks like he's gone for good. Not sure what it says about me but the first movie I ever remember him in was the origional F&F, and I can still remember that night vividly. Everyone left the theatres with smile on their faces, spent a bunch of time in the parking lot talking trash and dreaming. So many of us got our first taste of tuning, of customizing, of hanging out in parts stores from these movies. As a whole the entire auto industry (production and aftermarket) owe much to Paul and these movies. They made it ok to be a petrol head again which anyone on this forum should appreciate. He will be missed.
  19. Oh I'm well aware of the addiction, it's going to be more of a question on how much time I can get away from work to make it to events. My biggest concern is that I've worked this thing far enough to be in a class I won't be competitive in...either from the car not being THAT good or the driver not being up to snuff
  20. Taunts you doesn't it? I've got a pile on my shelf just awaiting time/attention Fortunately the other toys are out of sight so I don't have to think about them so much.
  21. Car 1 New turbo, new intercooler/piping, new driveshaft+carrier bearing, wheels+tires Car 2 New powersteering lines(rear), intercooler piping, body work(damn vandals), more tires! Car 3 Frame supports, Throttle body/Plenum, vert delete replaced with roadster+roll bar, tuning, and .... MORE TIRES!
  22. On this subject I DO plan on taking the mustang back to Trails this spring and it IS topless, am I still up against the roll cage rule for under a 13.5?
  23. Thanks for the feedback guys, figured we have a pretty good group of AutoXers here that would toss me a bone. Last comment first, I have a Snell helmet already that's certainly not a problem. I guess what I was more concerned with is how often broken/spent at a day of racing? The car I'll be running was origional designed to be running in pretty much a stock class however I think I have managed to over work this thing so god only knows what class I'll be in now. Guess I'll find out on race day #1! I guess what I'm worrid about are brakes/tires/etc how well they hold up over an event and whether or not it's something people swap. From what I can tell the class I'll be in will open up many tire options beyond just what I would usually drive on the street so bringing another set of wheels/tires to run in might make sense. Same thing with the drag strip. Anyone who knows me knows I don't mind a few stares and chuckles
  24. Will definitely help sponsor that. As one who recently had a car break in as well I know how it feel, the anger far outweighs the items lost/damaged. Might need to find her a Barbie vette to put with the Barbie house? This IS CR after all
  25. Alright so by spring the new little project car is going to be ready to hit the tracks and I may actually have the free time to get it out more than once a month. Given this is something I've never really done before I'de like to ask some advice from those who have. Car is built for a mix of Auto-X and Drag so I'll be hoping to hit a good mix of both. What are requirements/recommendations for myself and for my car? Where is the usual point where you don't drive to and from the event and find yourself needing a trailer? What parts do you all typically take with you to the track? Safety equipment? At what point do most people get into the firesuit situation and NOT look like idiots? To this point the fastest I've ever had to deal with have been helmet cars, the new one should be pushing into the low 12s high 11s. From what I've read sounds like I'm in for a treat on yet another expensive hobby.
