the key to wind, as with many other things in motorcycling, is to stay calm, smooth and loose. once you start tensing up, the bike isnt going to do what you want it to do and then its all downhill from there. you tell the bike what to do. not the other way around.

+1 if you master the 250 or 500, you will have a serious leg up on riding skill. and +1 to what benyen said about resale values. you can ride a 250 or 500 for a year and sell it for nearly what you paid for it. there is always a demand for beginner bikes. personally, id go for the 500 over the 250. i could be a little biased tho

MJ, i have a fair amount of parts for the 500 floating around my garage. think i got some mirrors. if you want em, they are yours for the taking the brake pedal you can take off and hammer back into shape. if you need any other parts or help with it, let me know. ive learned a fair amount about the 500 by trying to keep mine running lol. also, a little EX500 tip: take off the front turn signals and take out the metal backing plate. reinstall the signals. now when the bike falls, the signal will just push back, rather than letting the metal plate punch a hole in your fairing.

let me know when this happens. schmidts is probably like 300 yards from my house.

yup. metal also gets slippery. like steel plates or manhole covers. also, the first 10 minutes or so it rains are the worst. the rain releases all the grease and oil thats on the road and makes it slick as snot. after about 10 or 15 minutes though, most of it has washed away.

lol funny this thread is bumped. i got off work a few minutes ago. went out and lo and behold, my bike is laying on its side. wtf? i assume the wind blew it over. it was pretty windy today, and the wind was coming from the kickstand side. i guess it just blew over. thank god no one else was parked next to me. could have been bad.

IMO you dont want to start it up unless its going to get up to full operating temp. i.e. dont start it unless you are gonna ride it.

ok from what i have gathered: you need the sticker to ride state land, and to get the sticker you need a title. dirtbikes didnt have titles in ohio prior to 1999 or so. is that all correct? so if one has an older bike how does one go about getting a sticker/title?
