  1. I'm sure they are looking at Tesla's troubles in some states and wondering what the fate of Elio stores would be as well...

At least Elon Musk is creating a road map of amiable states/markets for other small-volume manufacturers that want to sell cars out of retail shops...

Elon Musk also has the financial resources to make that happen.

  2. It's going to be hard to sway me from CFL when a pack of four 13W bulbs is only 25c at Costco.

I find myself replacing an awful lot of CFLs. I don't get anywhere near their advertised life. I've replaced 3 dead CFLs in about the last week and a half.

  3. The Canal Winchester pickup location shows price as $9.97

    Brice Rd shows $4.97

So buy them at brice road! I replaced the CFLs in the bathroom yesterday, and I nearly blinded myself this morning. Significantly more light output than a higher wattage CFL.

  4. Home Depots around Central Ohio have Cree 60W equilivant (9.5W actual) LED light bulbs for $4.97 each. 800 lumen rating, 9.5W power consumption, 2700k color (soft white, there's not a bothersome yellow color), CRI 80, Average life 25,000 hours or 22 years of typical usage, DIMMABLE (there is a very slight buzzing when using a non-digital dimmer). I bought 10 of these. According to a light meter app these generate more light than a 15W 800 lumen rated CFL.

I bought online for store pickup, and used an e-giftcard that I ordered from Cardpool.com to save an additional 6.5%.

Pricing varies outside of the Columbus area. Could be more, could be less.

  5. I live in a slab home, and i HATE it. So, on that point alone I vote pass. I'm also weary of the modular construction, and the fact that there's no HVAC upstairs is a huuuuuge red flag to me.

It's a nice lot of land, but sounds like you'd be buying someone's problem house. Pass.

  6. ...In no way could I blame Rotiform for what had happened to me on my trip and it really wasn't his problem at all, but he took initiative by sending me all new parts, free of charge. I couldn't believe he would do something so nice...

I don't understand. If a company manufacturers/assembles/sells rims and they fail on their maiden voyage due to either defective hardware or improper assembly, how is it not said company's fault? Sending new bolts was the very least this company could have done. It's a damned good thing you pulled over before the barrels came apart.

Semi-related: Could you have repaired your rims at the show? I'm sure there was a Lowe's, Fastenal, or similar nearby. Or had a local shop replace the bolts right quick.

  7. I couldn't find the rest of the project, but this is exactly what I was going to say. I understand the want/need for a daily to save wear and tear, and the more it saves on gas the better, but any mpg mods over ~$100 or so, I just don't see the payoff unless you put a ton of miles on it.

    LMGTFY...

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3

    Part 4

    Part 5

my dads stock jetta TDI pulled 52mpg the whole way to Cincinnati last week. Problem solved

Project sipper, VeeDub Edition? Add an underbody tray/front lip/aero spoiler, lower it, replace windows with lexan and hood/doors/trunk with CF parts. Maybe hit 55mpg?

Edit, forgot the expensive 1 piece forged rims and low rolling resistance tires. 56mpg.

  8. This thread is a prime example of what is wrong with America. 'I don't need a crush washer, it never leaks'. 'I don't need a torque wrench, I've never stripped a drain plug.' Let me rephrase those statements, 'I am going to do the least amount of work to get the job done and take no pride in what I do.' This is why the rest of the world is kicking our butts in manufacturing. Bet if you people did this for a living you would still reuse crush washers and not torque it and want 50 bucks an hour, 4 weeks vacation, retirement and free healthcare. BTW, the crush washer is a very important part of the torque process, contrary to what seems to be the common opinion here it's primary purpose isn't just to prevent leaks. It's part of a proper torque.

Meanwhile, have we heard from the OP again? Seems he still needs an oil change and there are lots of us willing to help.

TL;DR. Busy sucking my oil out thru the dipstick tube.

  9. and that still doesn't change the fact that the Lambo and MGT could be charged with reckless driving, drag racing, etc. but most likely some form of negligence. The Mazda driver has an easy case in return.

The law in the US (not familiar with London) but here the law requires drivers to be careful when encountering anyone they meet on the road including passengers, other vehicles, and pedestrians. It's called duty of reasonable care.

So while the guy in the Mazda may receive a traffic violation (not likely though), he's going to have a great case in return against the Lambo owner, especially if he was injured. I would say he might be the one driving the Lambo next time. He likely won't get a violation even if the Lambo is charged with negligence or drag racing. So no, he isn't automatically going to be at fault if he turned out in front of the Lambo if it is proven he was racing.

The law looks at the driver's conduct and compares that with the conduct expected of a reasonable person. How would a reasonable, prudent person have behaved in the same or similar circumstances?....not likely the way he was driving.

I'm a reasonable person, and if I had an Aventador I'd drive it unreasonably.
