  1. Well I am happy that they have all these options. Should be a nice plinker...

But again... Will all the aftermarket parts for 1911 work on these... Obviously I doubt the trigger will but the saftey, hammer, beavertail and slide lock should all be the same? Correct? How about grips?

Pretty much anything on the frame will fit. Albeit, minor fitting may be necessary. I'm pretty sure trigger is GTG. 1911forums should have a thread with a list of parts interchangeability.

  2. That can is the SWR Spectre which is probably the most expensive but one of the best sounding .22 cans on the market (Also rated for 22FA, 22mag and 17hmr)

Generally it runs around 400-450 depending on the dealer and then the 200 tax stamp on top.

It doesnt sound any better than my form 1 can thought which I made for about 50 in material. hahahaha. sorry Tom, had to. :) If you want a 22 can, get the SWR Spectre or the Thunderbeast 22L-1 or 22S-1 in my opinion.

I had about 20 seconds of time in writing that check, how many hours did you have in that can? Seriously though, we ought to find someone with a sound meter and measure em (and the new SS sparrow).

  3. $386.54 out the door on those. I've sold a shit load of them! Its the same gun as the GSG version, same manufacturer but they say Sig on them. The GSG version is $346.20 out the door, but they are hard to get. Distributors sell out of them super fast.

They also have threaded barrels and are super easy to set up with a suppressor.

    Yes they are.

  4. I think I read somewhere the chiappa is going to put RFID's in their firearms. I would love a 17 hmr 1911 :)

The chiappa one is garbage by most accounts. It may be worth the extra money to get the Sig labeled one as I'm told the finish is better. The finish on my GSG slide is rather thin and will need redone soonish.

  5. I'd actually check and double-check whether or not Ohio would honor another state's carry law for police.

I can't remember the case name, but the loose facts were that a prison guard(?) was convicted of carrying a firearm in a federal building. He assumed he would be covered under the "police personnel" exception, and was not.

I'm totally biffing on these facts... But the bottom line is, unless someone in the same situation has done it before, I would not risk it.

Fed Law. HR218, exempts out of state leo's from state carry laws.

  6. the GSG is nice, are the mags metal? does anyone know...

The buckmarks and rugers are solid platforms.

I myself would look at a conversion for my current 1911. Sure I would love to have one dedicated but the Chiappa plastic mags dont cut it for me.

I have a GSG 1911 as a suppressor host. Yes, the mags are metal (plastic baseplates). It runs pretty good, but it certainly doesn't have ruger like reliability (adding the can doesn't necessarily help either). It's overall a pretty decent piece, most 1911 parts fit. I swapped out the mainspring housing for a flat checkered Ed Brown deal with a magwell when I first got it. The major downsides are the slide is fairly soft metal and the finish on the slide is rather thing. I've been told the Sig branded ones have a better finish on them, otherwise they are identical.

  7. If they're going to require a "qualification"' date=' then it should be something more than shooting .22lr into a bucket of sand. I would say an NRA certified instructor, but I don't know if that is a serious badge, or not. I've seen lots of folks with certifications of all kinds that had no business carrying them. (firearms being just a small portion)[/quote']

Without getting into the whole certified vs qualified debate, WTF was that post supposed to mean? That has to be the most disjointed post I've ever seen from you.

  8. I would support that as well. I see no prob with having to demonstrate you can hit your target if you want to carry a gun. I actually wouldn't mind seeing the minimum standards increased a lil too. Any moron picking up a gun for the first time can hit the required minimum standards as they are now.

There are no actual standards, although most instructors use the NRA Basic pistol rocker qual, which has changed recently to be a little harder. Honestly, the OPOTA pistol qual course of fire is pretty easy and should be the standard.

  9. Thanks for the clarification.

We can hope that will be improved by the time 2014 come around and the first batch of people need their second renewal. It hasn't been a priority yet.

    Ken

Honestly, it's not something that needs fixed. Fixing the lame definition of a loaded gun being a loaded mag, fix that, but there is nothing wrong with a requal after 10 years. Given the general demographic I've seen come through classes in the past 6 years, I would go so far as to require a requal at all renewals, not just the second.

  10. AFAIK, there is no transferring of a license from one state to Ohio. He will have to go through the process just as if he is starting from scratch. 12 hour class including range time. Fill in the paperwork and wait for it to be approved. Heck, even for someone in Ohio, that's required for the second renewal.

    Ken

Yes, he will have to take a class again unless his original training was recent and met Ohio guidelines (including the passing out of the book from the AG).

FYI, for the second renewal (aka 10 years later), it is a shooting re-qualification not another full on course.

  11. I should change my signature to FEG instead of Remington..

I think i will change the recoil spring and see what happens, and also see about the extractor "tune"

Judging by your picture, I'd guess weak extractor tension like the poster above mentioned. It's been ages since I've played with a Hi Power, but I think the extractor has a spring in the mechanism, so you should be able to put a Wolf extra power spring in there and be good to go if thats the issue.
