  1. There are some accurate factory AR10's out there. Larue on the high end and DPMS LR on the low end of cost. Custom is always an option, and having GAP or Mark at SAC build you one (especially with his new 7mm creedmore variant) is going to be one sweet setup.

  2. So your saying this gun is horrible for accuracy? Why do the shoot them at camp Perry? I have always been lead to believe they were accurate out to 1000meters?

That depends on your definition of accuracy. There is a reason that .223 AR's pretty much replaced the M14 pattern weapons in Service Rifle competition. I've shot Supermatch M1A's and while they are nice, its more time, effort and resources to get one to perform as well as an AR. Even then, they require a ton more upkeep to keep them accurate. Mind you, this is staying within the realms of Service Rifle rules. The newer aluminum stocks and such help a lot with accuracy. That said, guess what is trending up in use at Perry? 308 AR's (due to the m110 and other configs being used by snipers, they are now becoming useable in service rifle comps).

  3. We have to make this a motorcycle trip this year. I road down last year, 60 to 10 to 22. It was pretty awesome, in the 70's and the roads rocked. The ride back was very cold though.

It's not likely that I'll ride down.

  4. The only issue I have with these IWB is I don't really wear a belt. To something like this is going to feel bulky on one side. If I had a tuck able holster that has two clips its more evenly distributed around my jeans. Plus the retention feel better for me. I've seen these everywhere but I'm not a fan. ;) but thanks for the option. I like this old faithful one Parks suggested but I'm not sure I could or would be able to put the damn thing together. My OCD self would scratch it and freak out, or not center it right and I wouldn't carry it. Lol.

I wouldn't recommend an IWB without a belt for most circumstances. A good belt /holster combo will help distribute that weight so you don't feel bulky on one side. Since you aren't a belt wearer, I would look into a belly band type holster.

  5. Generally speaking, a quality holster is going to retain the weapon better, conceal better, and distribute the weight of the gun better than your $19.99 Uncle Mike's holster. There are a lot of quality holsters in that $50-$75 range, but not as many in the sub $50 range. Heck, a Milt Sparks SSII (which was once THE IWB to have) is more like $100.

You're best bet is to check gun forums for folks selling slightly used holsters at a discount. Even better, is to find someone local that has tried various types and has spares lying around that didn't work for them that you can try before making that investment yourself. I've known folks that have spent more than the value of their carry gun on finding a holster that works for their body type and lifestyle.

  6. Back to the 6.5 vs 6.8 bit, I'd go 6.5 for target/varmint or longer range shooting due to better bullet selection (higher BC). However, if you are looking for something to pack more punch than .223 or to be used for game other than varmint, 6.8 SPCII (make sure you get the spcII chamber and I think 1/10 twist) is a better way to go.

  7. Isn't a 1/4 MOA gun a 1/4 MOA gun at any distance?

    1 MOA = 1.04 in at 100 yds, at 1000 yrds = 10.4 in.

MOA isn't a measure of the size of your groups. The size of the groups is variable depending on distance. MOA is the measure of the arc space.

Not necessarily. Practically speaking, there are so many factors that come into play, especially at distance, that you shouldn't take the 100y groups at face value and assume its going to hold true at all distances. You could have a rifle that, mechanically speaking, its capable of shooting 1/4moa at 1k, but the combination of rifle, ammo, environmentals (aka WIND), and shooter make it a realistic 1/2 moa. Also, some loads in rifles need to "settle" and you may see an instance where a certain load/rifle combo prints a 1 inch group at 100 yards, 1 inch at 200, and 1.5 inch at 300, 2ich at 400, etc... So at 100 yards, you are able to hold roughly a 1MOA circle, but as the round stabilizes you end up with being able to hold 1/2 MOA circles at further distances.

Also, I'm well aware of MOA and MIL being an angular measurement. That said, its common to measure targets and group sizes based upon said angular measure as it shows precision or size relative to distance.

  8. I have seen a .223 hit the 1000 yard targets consistently. It was the firt time I went to thunder valley and I was astounded.

I spotted for Karl and watched him hit 1200yards consistently with a 223 (ok, 223 AI) running an 80gr VLD.

Also, 6.5 can be pushed past 1k. I've watched my friend Mark from SAC hit 1165 with his .264LBC running 123gr scenars.

  9. I'm still crossing my fingers on hitting the 1000 with my ar this summer. I wanted to last year but never got a good day to try it whenever I was up at the range. It see,s I bring a lot of wind when I show up. I think the First match I shot with walther last year it was a constant 25 mph and gusting up to about 40-45 lol.

We did manage to get on the 850 pretty consistently.

Buy some mk262 black hills. Should give you the little extra to make 1000 a bit easier. I'm thinking I'm roughly 12 mils to 1k with my AR, so an extra 100 FPS would help that out a bit, since I only have about 9 mils of adjustment.

  10. I stand corrected I wasn't about to read the entire thing that's why I said from scanning it appeared.

Still doesn't explain the sherriff's website or what he told me. I wonder if they have discretion to require additional items??

Pro tip: LE doesn't always know the law, especially when it comes to firearms laws. The law regarding CCW in Ohio has been updated quite a few times.

And just to make your head explode, both my original ccw and my renewal were obtained without a DD214 or having taken a CCW class.

  11. Suprise! All the people who hate on Olympic and bought PSA lowers are in for a shock heh

The hate on Olympic had nothing to do with the lowers, but the quality of the other components.

  12. That's my plan. Work might actually be paying for it as well. Do you know if there will be any database security info presented?

There hasn't been an open call for talks, but if any come up i'll let you know. Worst case we may force one of our guys to talk on it.

  13. FYI, If any of you have experience or are looking for a job in the Pen testing/IT Security field, please let me know.

If you are not open to travel approximately 60%, this is probably not the right opportunity for you.

Anyone who has those skillsets and doesn't want to deal with a jackass like Flounder, please contact me.

  14. We run both Oracle and SQL(mostly MySQL) on VMs with no problems, the key to VMs is to keep everything separate. Create a new VM for each major task you want to do. Your DB should be the only thing on the machine, no apps or traffic except DB stuff. Keep this in mind and you should not have a problem.

That's the key in general, virtual or physical be damned.

  15. You looking to run SQL server virtual? We've found it's not very good for performance to have SQL boxes virtual. We use vmware on our TS's but our SQL servers are physical boxes. I have SQL server experience but not really involved with vmware.

Depends on your approach to virtualization. A lot of folks underpower their VM infrastructure from an I/O perspective, so when you throw SQL on their its a nightmare. That said, sometimes physical is the only way to go.
