  1. Never used em just told about them awhile back. Was told they are best bang for the buck and good quality. Maybe someone was screwing with me. Are they really bad enough to make unicorns puke rainbows and machine gun shit butterflies?

Yes, they are universally mocked by anyone who has a clue about optics.

  2. I have never met Tom, so I have no idea what he would/wouldn't recommend.

I was merely stating where to shoot long distance, and that a coworker knows the guy that runs the joint.

For 500-700 yards, I would also go with .308, BUT, 500-700 yards isn't long distance to me. "Long Distance" to me is 1000+ yards.

If you're mainly going to be shooting sub 500 yards with 700 being the absolute max, why not a quality long barreled 5.56? Cheaper match ammo than .308 match.

500-1000 or 500-1200 is generally considered Long Range. The 1000-2000+ gets categorized as Extreme Long Range

  3. Been looking at this model savage. Model 10 in .308 with a threaded barrel. Gunbroker has it for around $700 that would leave me with around $300 for a scope. I know not enough for a good scope but it is for light range use not serious shooting LOL! This is the one I been looking at.

Spend an extra $100 or so and get yourself a Falcon Menace 4-14x or a Viper 6.5-20. Also factor in another $100ish for base/rings, you can get some decent ones in that price range.

The upside to the savage, is that you can upgrade it yourself (including barrel/chambering) as funds allow or if you get more serious.

  4. In several years of long range shooting, I've seen a ton of 308s and maybe 2 30-06's at the range. In theory, you can get more velocity behind the bullet, and get better ballistics, but unless you want to reload from day 1, its not worth it. There is a lot of match grade 308 there, and the only match grade 30-06 I've seen is old stuff for Garands which wouldn't be comparable.

  5. Brian if you are finally ready to buy one, call me at Delta today. I'll be there 2-7 you may be surprised at what I can do for you on a new one. We have some awesome lowers coming next week including the zombie lowers. I could build you a new one for that price and it would be quality

Hope you are saying that as Todd the friend, cause technically Todd the gunstore employee needs to have an 07 ffl to do that.

  6. Well it looks like it will be in my possession around Christmas time when my Dad comes back. :) Ill be shooting it FYI.. Probably wont take it Rabbit hunting in thick briars or anything but would definitely use it for field rabbit / bird. I have another one I can use in thick brush without fear of beating up too bad.

Well then, you can come up here and shoot your snobby shotgun at the snobby sporting clays club I'm likely to end up joining.

  7. Something similar to this happened last week no? The other one was a teacher who shot his son thinking he was trying to break into his sister's house next door.

Well, sister calls brother about a break in, teenage son found in the yard wearing ski mask and general burglar attire, so I'm guessing his son was trying to break into the house.

  8. LOL Tom He is looking for input for new sights besides the acog. He has used a acog on his last three deployments but they where all cqb situations. Just looking for input on the hamr sight he was also looking at the 6x acog. He has been looking for online reviews of longer range sights. I know that some of you have used what he has been looking at so I figured I would ask.

Mike, the dude is yanking your chain a bit. He claims spec ops but needs your input on optics? Please...

Also, the ACOG is a magnified optic, its perfect for those longer range situations he's claiming he'll need a new optic for. It's passable for CQB (better with a reflex sight on top like someone else mentioned), but longer stuff is where it shines. 3 deployments with it and he should know that. You do realize it has built in bullet drop compensating out to 600yards right?

  9. Ok i talked to him today at work. He said yes he is in spec ops so he can set his gun up how he wants it. He is being deployed to a area in the southern region is all he could tell me. Said that most conflicts are out past 200 yards in mostly open areas. He is going to be using a m4 and might also be using a a m14. So not much close quarters stuff. I sent him a link to that specter dr sight. Thanks for the info parks.

If our marine spec ops units need to resort to having their civilian coworkers ask for gun advice on Internet motorcycle forums, then I do believe Chesty Puller is turning over in his grave.

  10. So we get a profit sharing bonus in december. And i spend a little on myself before the wife gets the rest. I am looking for a new plinker toy this year. Plan is to pick up a .22lr pistol and put a silencer on it. Looking mostly at the ruger sr22, walthers p22. Or the sig/gsg 1911-22. I know lots of you guys have or have shot these looking for pro/cons on the guns and what brand can for the money is worth it. Budget is under $1000.

I have a GSG and a ruger/tacsol setup with a Spectre. You can try it whenever you like. The GSG is probably a tad less finicky than the walthers. Last I heard, ruger still didn't have a threaded option out for the Sr22 despite manuals that indicate it. Think about the MP22 from smith, its prethreaded like the others and uses the p22 thread adapter.

a Ruger/Tacsol setup or buckmark/tacsol will probably be the best, but it can be pricier. Ruger has a new 22/45 lite that mimics the tacsol stuff and its only about $400.

so $400 (ruger lite) +350 for can (sales tax included, its the one I would get if money were no object) +200 for tax stamp will fit your budget.

or $300 (base ruger) + $300 tacsol upper (might be able to get you a better price) + 350 +200 is a bit over. However, that can be easily fixed by explaining to your wife that your bonus was $150 less than expected.

  11. qft!

At least it's not the track bike....so there's still hope I'll see him on two wheels this month.

I'm getting rid of that bike too. However, there is always a chance I'll show up and ride Jinu's diseased 600rr.

  12. 2004 Yamaha R6 30k Miles. Corbin seat, Integrated LED Turn signal/brake light, Yoshimura exhaust, Spiegler SS braided brake lines, Motovation Frame Sliders/spools

    $3800 OBO

  13. Already have a partner but there are plenty of others looking for partners, especially someone with a precision AR. Ill see the guy organizing the event tonight so Ill talk with him if you want.

Thus the reason for the pic I sent you this morning. :)

One of Josh's buddy's running the event?

I've got some pretty good dope with the precision AR, so I'd be game to play spotter for someone. Might hit up Wayde to see if he wants to go

  14. With the company being rather new I am a little concerned about quality as well but at that price I may take my chances and order one. I looked at a group buy for Thunderbeast but they were still $960 for a .30 cal. That is a bit out of my price range for a suppressor.

Check out the SAS Ti Arbiter. It can be had for ~$750 and flounder and I can both attest to the quality.

  15. I'm sure it is "that easy" but I enjoyed watching Jinu dump oil down his engine the first time and get frustrated, and then telling him Kevin ripped him off and sold him some poorly engineered, bts piece of crap. You guys are totally missing the point!

There is a reason that Pauly does most of the work on Jinu's bikes......
