Now I know these are not the cleanest pics of an engine bay. At the time I took the these pics, we finally found a solution to supercharger belt issues on my fathers car. I know it is dirty and full of belt dust. I also know there is a rib missing on the belt that you will see in these pics. All of this is from trial and error and we now have found a solution.
This is what a stock vortech supercharger kit looks like on a 5 Liter Mustang.

You can see that Vortech does not offer much in the way of belt wrap using the stock tensioner pulley. Getting a belt to stick is next to impossibe with anything smaller then a 2.95 pulley on Vortech's "S" Trim supercharger. Most people either put VHT which makes a mess on the belt or some other sort of belt dressing.
Well last winter we came across a upgraded version of the blower that we are running called a "T" Trim. The blower is physically the same size for the most part. I believe the Volute is just a tad bit bigger. Switching to a T trim resulted even a bigger problem with the belt slipping on the crank. It was now time for a solution.
We started off running the same 7 " Crank Pulley and 2.75" with the new blower. This was a 10 rib setup. The S-trim blower is good for about 680 crankshaft hp while the T-trim is good for about 825 crankshaft hp. Unfortnately it takes more hp to spin this blower which made our belt slipping issue a bigger one. So our first solution was single idler pulley opposite of the tensioner which is seen here.

As you can see this improved belt wrap around the supercharger but did not leave much room between the stock tensioner and my idler. But it was enough to get the belt to stick using the T-Trim. A perfect solution for the S-trim as well.
But we now had a new problem. We were not making as much boost with the bigger blower and not making as much power either. What gives?. Vortech's T-trim likes to be spun a lot more rpm then the S-trim. Pulley for Pulley, A S-trim will out do a T-trim up to about 15 psi. At this point the S-trim is out of steam. It starts to pump hot air and loose its efficiency. Actual impeller speed where this blowe hits a wall is at 48,000 to 50,000 rpms. This about the speed where the T-trim starts to shine and make HORSEPOWER!!. The Trim will do close to an impeller speed of 60,000 rpms and support 20 psi. To do this meant going to a 8" Crank Pulley and a 3 inch blower pulley. Now we were back to square one. We were spinning the blower much faster for a given engine rpm that the single idler did not give us enough wrap. Time to take it the next level..
This is the final design. We are now pushing over 20 pounds of boost and moving well over 800 hp worth of air through our mild 351 cubic inch windsor. Belt slip is gone and the car now is an absolute beast.
