Anyone catch the guy saying
"well it cant be a GT42, thats to heavy of a turbo to run ona 4 cylinder-that thing wont spin fast enough."
Made me lol.
Very cool shit though.
-
Than I have seen out all year. I saw 2 guys almost dump there bike trying to come to a stop-and that was just on the way to the gym!
Was it that bad down there?
-
Just put 120 miles on it today-and have determined that I need a muffler!
Yikes
-
-
So thats your goal JP? Good luck!
No, I don't think the stock tranny will take that!
Ty
Heck no-I have no real goals for this car.
I just had to be cheap-
And be faster than most from a roll. Thats it
-
Ohh, btw JP.
The T2 tranny is good for about 450 ft lbs to the wheels. Or so the "experts" say.
Ty
Have the experts seem Mangs down in PR pulling 1.2 60 foot times and going 8.0's @ 16X on them?

were the mounts all custom? i have a tII chassis atm still deciding on my engine options. how much custom fabrication was involved?
Yes, of course the mounts were custom! I will say-there was much more fabrication than I anticipated-more so than what is involved in swaping,-say a Colt.
-
did you end up using the mazdas gauge panel or install your own? also was it a turbo II car or did you add the hood?
Turbo TII cluster-and its a real turbo TII
quad post? Yikes

Welding with a gas can between your legs. You must have 9 lives...

HAHa! That was not me, but I didnt even notice it. I had a buddy grinding some shit for me.
-
Damn under 5000g's? Not trying to be a dick but how long will the RX drivetrain hold up?
Your guess is as good as mine!
-
Looks like a neat setup JP, I'm very interested to see if the TT setup works or not.
Me too.
-
well good job so far and it looks to be an interesting build. I hope it all works. Do you still have the heater core in it and everything?

only FC probably
here is a FD from the shootout.
Yes, but I was at least the first. Those punks got the idea from me as it is-they sent me 1 million emails back in winter when I was will at Shearer.
Oh well

Hyundia used the Mitsu motors/ parts ect in some of their cars.
Lots of 4g63/7 turbo ect.elantras around.
The 4g67 in the elantra is basically a 1.8L 4g63 from what I understand.
Thats about right. 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0's everywhere. If you pull it-its $30-40 bucks.
-
you'll have to have someone else upload the pictures again, since your site is blocked from most firewalls.
Did the FC bellhousing bolt right up to the 4G63 block? That's awesome news if so. I saw you're using the DSM clutch, what flywheel are you using with it?
I always thought it'd be cool to build a lotus 7 replica with a DSM motor but didn't think any RWD transmissions would work (other than the guy who supposedly swapped the guts of a 1g transmission into a mighty max bellhousing)
Kinda-sorta-but not really. B2600 bellhousing+TII trans makes it work. Clutch and flywheel are out of a conquest.
The Mighy max 5 speed will bolt to a regulat turbo 2.0 though, if you want to go that route. Those trannys get pissed after 400whp though.
-
congrats man, A+ originality and a pretty fuckin cool looking car; helluvalot easier on the eye than a colt
Dont diss the poor Colt. I still though it had a nice body line-
For an econo box at least.
Thanks though. I have always liked RX-7, just not the powerplant.
not bad... numbers soon???It darts at high speed (needs a rear end alignment) - and has some exhaust leaks (shit I forgot to weld). If everything goes well, I will be getting another wally from Battle of the Imports on Sunday.
-
Mike: fuck yes, about to go on there now
Don King: post the story or so help me I will pay to have you banned
I honestly cant. You can PM me if you like-but Linn and Sam were witnesses to the action.

I finished the car around 12am Saturday night, with intentions of bringing it out to the shootout that was then rained out. The bottom end has been finished and in the car since last year-but I waited 7+months for a head that I still done have, so I went to the yard, got a head off a junk Elantra for $30, and the trash was on. In 5 days, the turbo/cooling system and wiring was built, fabbed, and installed. There was MUCH more fab work than I anticipated, and thats why the car was not at the show Saturday.

I will answer specific questions, but here are the cliffs notes.
2.4 Liter-Eagle/Weisco assembled by me
heavily used ACT 2600 w/6 puck
100% stock Rx-7 driveline
Twin China 50 trims
$50 "Bo-Bo" manifold, mig welded, ugly, hilarious!
JMF intake (thanks Jim!)
Q45 TB
1600cc
DSMLink (the BEST for your DSM)
twin 2.5 DP's to 4 inch made from scraps exhaust
Modified $140 Ebay intercooler
Honda Rad in inverted V-mount confg.
Stock head/cams
Sleeper Cage
As for the TT-I did it just to see if it would work. I know its inefficient on a 4 banger-but at what I pay for these China turbos, its worth a try. IF it doesn't work-no big deal. It will have a GT42 back on it within a matter of days.
A Budget that would make most cry. I have not ran the numbers-but as it sits I am 99.9% sure its well under the Colt's $5200 total investment. I know it will be up for debate with MAP's FD-but since I have had the initial intention, and had the motor in since 06-is it safe to say this is the worlds first documented 4G RX-7?
Track times, and a shit ton of video to come

You in your friend's beat up blue Ford Taurus. Me in my 59 Chevy Apache. You spotted me as the storms rolled in, threatening to make rush hour a living hell. I saw the excitement in your eyes as I powered down the road, all 6000 pounds of man-made steel rolling down the highway. As I merged next to you, I hear a "HEY GUY!" and look over to see a glint in your eye as your shirt disappears. Anyways, what I really just wanted to say was...nice tits.
Cliffs: Driving home from work on 670 yesterday some woman loved my car enough to show me her titties out the window. How many of your beloved 10-second cars can say that.
The Colt got me sex. True fucking story.

Thats impressive-but if you have the right trans/clutch/flywheel set up, as well as a EMS that has a NLTS function, it makes shifting that quick very easy.
-
is the blue supra done yet? (the drag car)???
Nosir.

JP, I do not feel the rotary is more reliable than any other motor. However, I also feel that many engines are not mroe reliable than any other given motor. I personally feel it is all in the build/tune/maintance. I have seen rotaries blow up every 3 months while making only 300 rwhp. Then I have seen people like the guy in the 7club thread. His car is a track car, that is all he does with it. But he beats the living piss out of it.
Cant argue with that. The same holds true int he DSM community.
You really get off at the fact that you have little to no money in your cars don't you, haha. That isn't an insult, but nor is it a compliment. It is just a statement.Making magic out of nothing is my claim to fame. So-thanks for the statement I suppose.
I found my camera-I will take better pics of the car tomorrow.
-
What.....the.....fuck.....
My thoughts exactly.
WTF-we can race all night fucking long, passing people at 3x the legal limit, with no police issues, but they get a hard on towing random fucking cars for no damn'd reason?!
If the club parked the car-you may be able to sue them for any damage/money loss incurred.
-
I agree, however the owner of that car(erniet) made 711 and 54x 4 months prior to that. So it has lasted at least 5 months.
Ty
Although there is no proof of how much he drives it, thats one. Now-lets consider he spent more in the turbo alone, and motor alone, than what I have into my whole project!
Also-considering your ignorant friend is still yet to reply-do you honestly feel the rotary motor is more reliable @ big power than a 4Gxx?

Yes-
That also tells me a fast 4 banger may be able to go down to a charade like that, and clean house since the backyard boys would have no fucking clue when say an Evo on street tires pulls up. Most V8 guys still look at me like I am crazy when I tell them what kind of power my Colt made/ran with the $'s in mods that was done to it.
