  1. I hear you on the reliability issue. That's why 950s are out. WAAAYYYY too many problems. The 990 is an advanced (lots of moving parts) bike, so more things to potentially go wrong, but then the bike has a lot voinv on too! Since older models are out that means more $ on my part...which sucks. But sometimes that's what it takes to get the job done. Super Tenere would be my 2nd choice, and given the right price, my 1st.
  2. Well fuck me sideways and call me susan... KTM 950/990 vs VStromHttp://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312281
  3. Damn ive kept looking at the KTM today. There actually alot for sale on advrider.....Heres my concern with the wee- too small displacement .Heres my problem with the V too bulky of a bike for more spirited off road use. I'm the sort of guy who sees a trail on a trip and I instantly consider shooting down it. I really think the ktm adv. style of bike would fit the bill. I also think between the bmw and the ktm, for me the ktm gets the nod. What's the farthest off road anyones pushed their V? Pics would help.
  4. Ktm 900 would be hand down amazing but they're had to come by used and priecy
  5. Funny you should mention that...keep your ears open
  6. also here is bill murray
  7. I've been looking for an ADV bike for a while now with the intent to buy used soon. i currently own a DR 650 for around town/ohio but am looking for something more comfortable on the long haul. I love my DR and its twq( not stock) but i want more UMPH for a weighted down long trip where i see as much dirt as pavement. Oh and fuel injection for high altitude. Initially i had my mind made up on a VStrom 1k. Cheap. Common. Comfortable. Reliable. Bullet proof. but recently i've been entertaining the idea of a mid weight (bmw F800GS). Reason being is that i can see myself wanting a more maneuverable bike in the down and dirty. Ill take any and all input into consideration and will bring a 6 pack of your choice to anyone who is so confident in their recommendation they will let me test ride their machine!
  8. looks like you've made your choice already but if you decide to keep looking check these out. http://www.weinbrennerusa.com/dspNavCategory.cfm?rootID=2&catID=26&prodid=326 These are the station boots I wear at the FD. Sole wears well, not crazy heavy or clunky and just change in insert out as needed for comfort and you'll be happy. And after a few coats of polish you can get a nice sheen off the leather.
  9. I wish you the most out right bad luck in selling this vehicle so i can buy it from you in a few months. unless you are interested in a tricked out DR650?
  10. So i find my self in Vail CO for a bachelor party (mine). On an extreamly off chance has anyone done trailing riding near my location?(http://goo.gl/maps/9xHw) Rentals? All i've found with in the immediate area is BS "4x4 tours". We'll be careful to mind the wild fires. PS here what we've been hiking to
  11. I would gladly be that idiot
  12. Thanks for the heads up, good thread. I'm looking forward to this bad boy http://www.biolitestove.com/

please dont listen to these jokers. as someone with just under 10 years of professional medical experience(and even longer of personal knee injuries) take it easy. Knees will take you out in the long run, so take care of them now...for your and your familys sake. That being said you cant tell much in terms of ligament or tendon damage from a knee xray. While i have personal experience, i'm no ortho doc so make an appointment to go see one. MRI could shed some light on how extensive the damage is or, hopefully, isn't. You could even get a script for PT and minimize additional injury. my .02

  17. I hadn't heard about this until my buddy gave me a heads up. if one was so inclined ive heard of people downloading movie torrents. http://fastestthemovie.com/index-US-about.html ABOUT THE FILM Shot around the world in 2010 and 2011, 'FASTEST' distills the thrilling, terrifying reality of the MotoGP world championship into a maximum-speed, full-length documentary feature film. 'FASTEST' captures a pivotal moment in the sport. Chasing his tenth world title, the legendary Valentino Rossi runs into the toughest challenge of his life: a wave of ferociously fast young riders, a horrific, leg-shattering crash at the Italian grand prix, an agonizing comeback forty-one days later in Germany, and the question every rider – even the greatest of all time – must face. Who's fastest now? In 2010, Jorge Lorenzo stole the MotoGP crown. But is Rossi still the king? 'FASTEST'. The greatest feeling. The greatest risk.

  19. And while were sitting here debating this issue, last night 4 CFD firefighters were in a fire that got so hot, the smoke, along with everything else, combusted (flash over). 2 were burnt and jumped out a 2nd story window with 1st and 2nd degree burns and ortho injuries. 2 other in the same room dove head first down a fight of stairs. Temperatures exceeded 1200F.They were searching teh house to make sure none of the family was inside. Keep that shit in mind when you think were lazy union members with better jobs than you. I've been on the FD for 5-6years. Ive landed myself in the hospital 4 times so far with injuries sustained on calls/at work. 1 trap, 2 grade 3 sprains and 1 knee dislocation.
  20. Lazy and incompetent firefighters who dont get fired, get forced out. We're the ones that have to work with them you know. The public thinking that just because you're in a union you're a lazy ass hole pisses me off to the Nth degree. The purpose for our unions to have a unified voice for a group of guys with common interests. That's it. Furthermore just about every firefighter i know has at least 1 extra job and spends a shit ton of time at the FD not getting paid, setting up community or Junior fire fighter programs or doing additional training. Not to S my on D but i work for 2 fire departments, Columbus states EMS education program, CPR instuction (on my own accord) and was just offered a job with Grant's Life Link program to be an educator for the new Advanced stroke education initiative they are launching in 2012. An i'm in full time nursing school. When it comes to finances, I contribute to SS but will get none of it as a public employee. I have my own investment portfolio along with what i have from work. Any where else i work, i max my 401k or 403b out. I make less than 40k a year and drive a paid off 2002 Mazda tribue with 160,000 miles. I plan on working as long as my knees and back hold up. And then ill find something else to do As far as layoff, id rather put that into the hands of the voters in the city or township than a single state Governor that continue to lie to voters to get on a potential presidential ticket.
  21. I agree that there could be some changes made, but issue 2 is like using an attomic bomb to nail in some finishing nails. The shiity thing is, politics has hard working middle class Ohioians pitted against each other. Taking away the ability to do my job and serve my community safely and effectively is not the answer. One if the things sb5 does is takes away a balance of power and gives it to govt. If a firefighter and the local govt. Rep come to a stale mate over something, say approval for new fire/ems apparatus issue 2 would give the default vote to the govt. Rep...every time. A whole host of other things but the way you vote on this issue directly affects the community for which I serve and my ability to safely and quickly do it.
  22. To clarify you're suggesting that I should just quit my career and move out of the state I've been in my entire life over an issue that was questionably put into place, repealed and put on the ballot by hundreds of thousands of hard working concerned ohioians? Whoops ill finish my thought later just got toned out to a possible suicidal.
  23. It sucks to hear the banter and bullshit commercials but Ohio issues will affect us many times more than the presidential election years. At least try and get an idea of what your voting on. FYI as a professional firefighter/medic for 6 years and a current nursing student, Im voting No on issue 2.
