so we once again took a long trip for about a week. we had a cabin rented in hayesville NC and road around the area for a week. did deals gap, cherahola skyway, blue ridge parkway etc. went down into haiwasse and helen GA. hit up Ashville NC and some other surrounding areas. we had a blast of a time, did 2300+ miles. it was me and my wife, a friend and his g/f, and a couple that i met at deals gap 2 years ago that were from GA, we have kept in touch ever since and i invited them to come join us. the cabin was amazing! so here are the pics! cool little old gas station that had burned down a while ago, this was on 25 on the way down. couple of rat rods we saw on the way down the hotel we stayed at the first night stopped at wildcat harley on the way down.. huuuuge dealership some random TRUE AMERICAN lol we saw at a gas station smokey mountain parkway at our cabin the view off the porch and in the morning off the porch some riding pics the ladies of the trip, my wife, Carmen from GA, and Tina Cherahola Harley clear water! at the gap

I could, but i lowered the front too. Im just gonna redo the whole suspension. Stock they ride pretty good when you get the air pressure dialed in on the shocks

never heard of it i just got off the phone with motorcyclemetal.com guys name is davie.. he sets up some insane suspension setups with ohlins stuff but he is a jerk off on the phone. he knows his shit, but all he does is say everyone elses products are "fucking Junk" in those words even though i really like the ohlins setups he sets up and sells, i probably wont buy from him, cause he is a jack ass.

really? can we be mature here? asking a question from people who know how to set suspensions up and the differences between different shocks, fork setups again as stated, i know it wont handle like a sport bike, im just trying to improve the handling, stability of the bike.

yes they are all equipped with air adjustable shocks. mine is lowered 1.5" front and 1.25" in the rear the rear shocks are stock oil/air socks revalved, and shortened by Bitchin Baggers front is progressive rate springs, and shorter damper tubes love the look, but handling isnt up to par for me, so im gonna be changing the fronts to Progressive mono tube catridge setup, or if the ohlins catridge setup is out, and in my price range ill do them. as for the rear im still up in the air if i should do progressive 940 shocks, Ricor shocks, or the Ohlins.. im gonna loose the lowered look, but its a price to pay for better handling

ok so because of my suspension thread i started i have a question for everyone. who actually rides 2 up loaded with luggage over a great distance. i mean 2000 miles or so. what do you ride? in my other thread asking about suspension ideas i just kept getting get another bike that will handle better blah blah blah. i love my bike and just want to improve the handling some.. what people dont understand is when you do long trips on a bike you want to be comfortable, especially 2 up, and room on a bike is important. along with a suspension that can handle the weight of a passenger and luggage you bring with you i had a VFR and that bike was awesome, but when you get 2 people geared up, and then add in hard bags loaded to the gills, and a top trunk the suspension is at its limit of capacity. yeha i could have beefed it up some, but then the factory of room on the bike comes into play as well, being cramped up for thousands of miles isnt pleasant.

had one.. loved it, but for 2 up, loaded down, it just wasnt comfortable for 2000+ mile trips. any of you guys ever ride 2 up for more than 100 miles around here?

ground clearance isnt my issue. the suspension is old technology and stock is like riding in a cadillac.. and on my bike its like riding in a cadillac with bad suspension lol lowering the bike didnt help obviously. so im gonna be going another route. im not trying to turn it into a track bike lol i just want to be able to throw it into a corner and have complete confidence in the bike, and as much stability as i can.

i cant very well load a ex500 up with my wife and luggage for a week.. and do 2500 + miles comfortably. im not asking for sport bike handling.. it wont happen, and i know this. what im wanting is a vast improvement over what i have.. which isnt a stretch believe me. i love my Street Glide, but id like to make it more stable in the bends.

so after my week long trip with nothing but twisties, im rethinking my current suspension choices. i love the lowered look, but i need something that handles better. i love the show, but gotta have the go. im not a typical harley rider, and i throw my Street Glide around as much as i can. currently im running some preogressive rate springs, shortened damper tube, and heavier weight fork oil. (gives the SG a great look, but performance wise is lacking alot) rear shocks are stock shocks that were sent out to be shortened and re worked for my weight, and re valved or sprung or whatever they do. they are adjustable by air pressure from a hand pump. what im looking at so far.. Progressive makes a Mono Tube catridge setup that replaces the whole damper / wet bath set up. about $300 Traxxion makes a catridge setup that is just insanely nice, with all sorts of adjustments and what not but its $1200 then racetech makes a HP spring and fork emulator setup to go in the stock forks my thinking is the mono tubes will be my best bet for a better performing front end.. updating the old technology with a cartridge style i just dont think i can go wrong. and i can still lower the bike some if i want.. i think ill jsut lower it 1" instead of the 1.5" (still want to lower the front because of the 12" wheel) rear wise im thinking either the progressive 840 touring shocks $500 Ricor shocks $639 or what id love to have but dont want to pay for Ohlins Shocks $1000 all of the above mentioned are non air shocks the 940 progressive shocks have a ton of great reveiws, and still give me an inch of lowering but retain stock shock travel. also id love to have the suspension actually set up to me so i can gain the most out of it. so any thought on the situation? need more info on stuff to help me with a decision?

that is definately were the mold of the tire comes together. ie had it happen to me on a rear tire as well.. i think it was a roadsmart as well. i still road on it, but kept an eye on it. nothing ever came of it, tire got worn out and i changed it.

there are alot of good roads in WV as well i mean it really depends on the riding you want to do, but i think every state has something different to offer

i have ridden all kinds of bikes i have probably ridden bikes from all makes and if i had tons of money id own soooo many different bikes a hyper moto or Aprilla RSV for dickiing aroud a 848 or new zx6r or R6 for the track a Vrod Muscle for burnouts lol Street Bob as a bar hopper type bike ktm adventure 990 for some offroading i could go on and on
