  1. Wow. Lots of good opinion! Thanks. Since the helmet new is anywhere from 3 to 400 dollars, I think I'll spend the 20 bucks to send it to Shoei for the inspection. I know my brains and quality of life are worth more than a few hundred, but if I can save the money, I will.
  2. So, OK, I got a hellacious deal on some used gear but comments I've received have me wondering about the helmet... It's a Shoei RF1000 and seems to have been used very little. No real wear on the inside, everything looks clean. However, there's one spot on the crown of the helmet that got a scuff about the size of a quarter... PO said that he clipped a tree limb with it? Only has one scratch that's thru the finish and it's about 3/8 inch long and maybe as wide as a pencil lead. I don't really think it's anything to worry about myself... Opinions?
  3. I "could" ride it, but I won't. I'm off all next week and between finishing the remodel at the house and working on the bike I hope to be riding it by the weekend. Tomorrow I'm pulling the rear wheel and will try to take the rim somewhere to be repaired if possible.
  4. And then I went right out and bought a lottery ticket. Not so much luck on that...
  5. So, sometimes C-list comes thru with bonus'... not always but this time it did! Been looking for riding gear, since I gave mine away to my stepson when he decided to start riding. Found a Joe Rocket jacket with gloves advertised. Thought the jacket would be too big but arranged a meeting anyway. Turns out the jacket is a near perfect fit. "Maybe" a very little too big in the shoulders, but I would have to buy off the rack to get a better fit! The gloves, never worn for riding, are snug like they should be and will stretch a little with wear - perfect! Then, the guy pulls out the unexpected bonus. A Shoei RF1000 in matching colors! I thought, no way dude... This surely won't fit me. I've got a pretty big melon at 7 5/8 - 7 3/4 and have had trouble with fit in the stores! Guess what? Another perfect fit... I'm still shaking my head in disbelief. All this gear for a hundred and fitty... Now the search for pants and boots!
  6. Thanks for the updated pic! As it happens I just scored a jacket, gloves AND a Shoei ! I'll have to post pics in another thread...
  7. I need gear! I'm 6'1" 220 with a 33/34 sleeve and 44" chest. Would this be close to fitting me? Also, could you either repost the pic or send it to me?
  8. Not mine but I got the chance to look at it and thought I'd pass on the info. Here's the link: http://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/2933535081.html Nice jacket in good shape. All the armor is there. The tag says size 52. I'm 6' 1", 220, 44 inch chest, and 33/34 sleeve. The jacket fit me a little loose in the body, well in the shoulders but really long in the sleeve. The elbow armor was about three inches down toward my wrist! I'd say the sleeves were probably 35/36, maybe even 37/38!! Anyway, he told me $85. Seemed like a pretty good deal if it fit. You could probably get him down a little. FYI!!
  9. Congrats on your purchase! Looks like there's something in the water this week... Just came home with mine Monday night! It has a Two Bros Racing exhaust and its plenty loud (so says wifey) :-)
  10. Thanks! funny how camera resolution can turn a beast into a beauty - not that this one is beat to hell, but she's been treated pretty rough. I'm particularly worried about this ding in the rim. It's only on the one side.
  11. Yup! That was me and this is the one! From Chillicothe area. She's been manhandled and needs a few cosmetic fixes... Might have to put a new rim on the back - that's the worst part.
  12. She followed me home... Think I'll keep her...
  13. Again, Great Info, Andy. I was wondering if there were some issue with the lenses that might make it necessary to buy a new upper fairing. Then again, me and JB Weld are like buds... There's stuff I've learned to do to make things usable. Comes from buying 30 year old Suzuki's and hanging out at the Rice Paddy too much. I didn't hear from the guy today so I have to assume that the one person that was interested before me didn't make it to see him today. It was somebody from that state up north, and I think I saw on the VFR forums that he found another bike instead. I'll call him midday tomorrow before I head his way at around 2p.m. just to be sure. Getting pretty excited about the possibilities... Trying not to count those chickens or talk myself into the sale before I give it a good going over and weed out the issues. Thanks, Brothers!
  14. I was considering taking a can of gas. Sounding more like a good idea all the time. :-) So from all the pictures I've seen on line, the wheels are supposed to be black? Might be interesting to see how they got to be silver...
  15. Excellent posts. Thanks, guys. FYI, it's missing both turn signals lenses... I'm kinda mystified by that one myself, need to find out more from him about that. He says it sat all year last year (doesn't have current tags on it now) and when I saw the pic of the fuel gauge I got a little concerned that it had had a small amount of old gas sitting in the tank for a year. Not a good combination. But I'm told that fuel injection makes bad gas a little less of an issue? The old Suzuki's I had didn't like old/dirty gas at all and you could count on a carb rebuild. The old Suzi's had R/R issues, too. Had to replace both mine with CBR R/R's to get the charging system in line. I'll have to find out more about the VFR's... Thanks again for the input! I'm really hoping this bike works out for me. Been off the road since last June and missed it every sunny day.
  16. Nobody on here's talked to this seller but me? Surprising... Are there red flags I'm not seeing?
  17. About 12K miles... How often are valves done in this year bike?
  18. http://chillicothe.craigslist.org/mcy/2916362084.html I have an appt with this guy on Monday to look at this... Anybody know anything about it? I'm guessing someone on here has called about this already. Looks like its been treated pretty badly... And I have very limited knowledge on fuel injected, water cooled bikes.
  19. Yup. They're on the "to do" list this spring...
  20. I'm gonna throw my two cents in here, just because I had a nightmarish incident with a used trailer... If you're going to buy used, get the bearings replaced and repacked or do it yourself before you go any distance with the trailer loaded. I was trailering an 83 GS1100 up from Kentucky with a 5x8 that I had just bought off a "friend" who assured me that the trailer was road ready. Coming up 71 right in the middle of Cincy another driver was flashing his beams at me and that's when I noticed the right side smoking. Bearing had run dry and burnt out. I had to leave her on the side of the road, drive the rest of the way to Columbus to get my tools, bearings and grease, then back down to Cincy to effect the repairs, now in the dark. It sucked. but got er done. Since then I've had no problems, but it was definitely a lesson learned...
  21. Not sure where to post this up so I'm throwing it in here. I thought about the Bike Shop but I'm just over 30 posts and still can't post new there. So the deal is, I've recently bought a few old Suzuki's (pre '83) and know my way around them, but I'm getting ready to go look at a VFR800 and, frankly, I'm not sure what to watch out for. This would be the first fuel injected, water cooled bike I've ever had. So what do you look for when shopping used? Is there already a "how to" out there? Thanks!
  22. Wow is right... That's some funny ass shit right there...
  23. Wow... That discussion went to hell in a hurry last night, didn't it?
  24. Nice... Added to the favorites.
  25. I've seen the Lambo around... Not sure who's it is. Bet I could drive it better than they can.
