  1. because you should be looking down track or through the turn. Your speedometer doesn't dictate when you brake or accelerate, your reference points do (or should).

Plus when you're first learning, you really don't want to get it in your head that "I take turn X at 55mph," or you'll always be scared to go faster than that. My speedometer isn't taped over, but the ONLY time I look at it is if I'm bored on a straightaway; like accelerating in 4th gear, when I know I'm going to get to 6th before I need to brake.

I have a habit of looking down at my speedo coming out of corners, gives me a little indication of how I came out of a corner. But with the size of the new Digital read outs it isn't hard to catch it in your periphial as you tuck in out of a corner.

I loved looking at my speedo on the 1k on the Tri-Oval at Nashville. Seeing 186 as I click 6th gear always made me giggle.

  2. this is my all-time favorite car vs. bike video, but it's comparing a prototype bike to a production nissan, not to mention that it's Freddie fucking Spencer riding the bike.

As much as I hate to admit it, cars should win a race more often - but this vid always makes me smile :)

YouTube - Car vs Street Bike vs 500cc GP Bike

but you HAVE to point out that they did their lap from a stop, which means there's more acceleration (from 0) than there would be on a flying lap. This plays to the bike's greatest strength, and the car's biggest weakness. I think a flying lap time for both would have been quite a bit closer.

It won't make hardly any difference at that track since the last corner is still a 30-40 mph max.

The fact the street bike made up the 15 second deficit and prolly opened 5-10 seconds on the car after means in on lap it went 20+ seconds in one lap.

Even more so on the GP bike, and that was on cold tires. Street tires back then didn't benefit from heat like today's but some, but even the slicks back then needed heat.

  3. im more interested in the comparisons of bikes vs cars on a road course....ive only even seen one, it was a bade model porsche vs an r1 and the porsche was quicker around the track...i would surely hope a zx14 is quick in a straight line!

Actually Kevin Schwantz did a Test of 01-02 GSXR 1000 and a Z06 Vette at Willow Springs. Schwants was also a National lvl Car racer after his Moto GP career.

At that test Schwantz corner speed on the bike was higher then the Vette in every corner.

Only place the car had the advantage was on the brakes.

Funny test they did was 0-100 and back to 0.

Bike went from 0-100-0 before the vette made 100.

  4. I want to bring up the other side, though it is somewhat selfish and unexpected to most, think of how the person who commits suicide felt.

I would say that most suicide cases the person is not ok one day and then ends it the next. It is a long and slow process to get to that point, and if they are at that point how would another 15-20 years affect that person and those around them?

  5. You would be surprised how slow some of the newer racers are in Novice Group. We have seen guys first year place top 5 and we have guys first year are just getting on the track and are 15 seconds or more off Novice times.

I say get a couple trackdays under your belt, if your out there comfortable around a crowd, and you can hold your lines fine when pushing a bit then you are ok to race.

On a slim budget you can get buy with about $800 a weekend to race. I was doing 5 races a weekend at $270, and using one set of tires $285 (Bridgestone), 6-7 gallons of 93oct $21, about $200 in fuel to get there and back, Then add in changing oil every other race weekend, and a bit of food for the weekend will keep you around $800 or so.

  6. If I had my druthers, i would ride a Big Wheel. Since they don't make one load rated for me, I likes my sporty V-Twin. Though I do think either a sport/tourer (i.e. Interceptor) or cruiser is in my relatively near future as a compliment to the RC. I am just afraid I would fall asleep on it. I have damn near fallen asleep on my old GSXR.

I would love to have Gallagher's Big Wheel. But I would really hurt myself on that thing...

  7. My dad had just gotten his 1100 Shadow a few months before I graduated High School after 13 years since his Honda 400SS.

I had planned on uprading my paintball gun with the Graduation $$, but Dad was buying Cycle Traders and looking in the newspaper at sportier bikes "Look at this one for $x,xxx" etc...

Well I was set on a 94-96 Katana till we decided to go look at a Seca II in NKY. When I saw it I was shocked how good it looked (At the time). So $2k later I rode it home (had my temps for 3 days) surrounded by dad and family friend.

After 2 crashes learning, and getting my license we headed to Rt22. Family friend in the lead on his Katana 1100 and a friend of his on a Shadow ACE Tourer 1100, then myself, then my dad. I just put in my head that if the shadow made the corner there was no way I couldn't so just rode relaxed and followed loving every minute of it. After that Sport was the way I went.

Now I wouldn't mind a crusier, but there is only 1-2 cruisers I would consider, first is the Honda Valkryie and maybe the Triumph Rockett III. I have found that on cruiser I tend to not like V-Twin (and one reason I got rid of my 97 TL-S) motors and after ridig a V4 it isn't that much different.

  8. Congrats. Nice chioce. The 10 is more comfy then most of you realise. I actually am more comfortable on the 10 then the Busa for long rides.

Yea I would be more comfortable on the 10 then I would on the 08 Busa. IMO suzuki FUBARed the the riding position on the Busa. 99-06 I could have riddden one of those 10-12 hours a day with minial discomfort, but I can't sit on the 08 in the showroom without my back hurting from the reachy.

  9. i feel that now that i have discovered the awesomeness of several different bikes, its ok to buy and sell a few choice selections. like when i get bored with this one i'll go buy a yamahaha or something... i'm going to diversify my 2 wheel obsession

Make sure the Yamaha comes with an extra engine for da exposion..

  10. I am not sure, Chris on the transfer fee. I've heard it happening before so, just making sure folks are aware. They'll let you know when you call.

As for Reuben - he's part of the Swantz school as an instructor now so, yes...

With it about a week away yeah transfer fee is possible (Nate I wouldn't charge you that :D)

I am hoping to get to use my bike, as they didn't give the options to not use their bikes when I signed up.

Nate hit me up in a PM if you want it so I can get your information to pass to Patty.
