Magic Mountain needs those... Only with REAL motors in them...

As soon as he was able, yes.

I could be down, but I'd want to start earlier as to get a lot of saddle time... As far as routes go, I'd say 13S to 550E to rt7 and back... How we get to 13S could be open to suggestion. Round trip, 300 or so very twisty miles.

Who rides near Mansfield anyway? lol... Good info, thanks for the heads-up!

I'm going to try to avoid hijacking as much as possible, but the smoking ban is terrible IMHO... I used to smoke and the smell of it now makes me want to puke, but shouldn't it be up to the business owner as to how their business is run?

I concur. Legislators just love taking away our freedoms under the guise of protecting the masses. It's a scary time folks... As for CA, motorcycles are about the only thing that state is not completely backasswards on..

Always nice to debate with like-minded people. Makes things much smoother. I too like the idea of Euro style licensing... graduating licensing, etc. I am generally not a fan of more laws, but there are exceptions like this. The current licensing system is an absolute joke... zero real-world application in most of the sections. 25 questions and a pathetically easy 'road' course. I think the MSF beginner's course should be mandatory for ALL vehicle operators... The experienced course should be mandatory to get your MC learner's permit... and a REAL test should be given. Any schmuck with a steady paycheck can go finance a racing machine and pass get his/her license with no legitimate riding ability necessary.

Devil's Advocate is a requirement in ANY well thought out debate. The question is... How long will the decrease in fatality rates appease the masses? Even better yet, motorcycles are becoming more popular... More riders = more rider fatalities... gear or no gear. Currently fatalities are up 5% or something. So will the decrease in fatalities from forced helmet use cover the gap created by growth in the market? I dunno... Or perhaps even more idealistic of a question... Is it possible that the growth will legitimize the usefullness of a motorcycle in the eyes of the general public? How big does the motorcycle community have to grow before the pendulum swings the other way? And the thinning the herd thing... Yeah, it does reflect poorly on us, but Darwinism is not a bad thing in the grand scheme of all things... Remember the Lawn Dart recall in the 80's? I was a kid, but remember it well... A couple morons stuck their kids in the face and wanted to sue the manufacturer for not adequately warning them that a 2lb steel tipped projectile hurdled 100 yards could hurt someone. It's even worse now... although interestingly enough, Lawn Darts are making a comeback!

It's not about staying legal and whatnot, it's about being safe... err... safer. Once you start into triple digits things can get out of hand VERY quickly. I've seen it and it's ugly. That's not to say bad things cannot and do not happen at lower speeds, but the likelihood falls off dramatically the slower you go. 80ish has been, at least in my experience, the point in which the danger levels grow exponentially. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Further, you are correct... There is no official rule book for posting a ride on a public board. However, I have set expecations for the type of ride I prefer. If others do not want that sort of ride, not a big deal... I ride solo most times anyway. If others are like-minded, great... everyone should be comfortable. Nothing was wrong with the ride we took, with the exception of Bret going down... and that happens. Some things made me uncomfortable, but I never felt like anyone was out of control or really putting anyone else in danger. It just wasn't my ideal kind of ride.

I would ride with everyone again.

Helmet laws suck. I always wear my helmet and am a firm believer that if you think you have anything on top of your neck worth saving, you should wear one too. However, like with seat belt laws, I think it is completely obtrusive for the government to decide for me, how I keep myself safe. I do not need the government making decisions that involve my personal well-being in my own hands. These laws are dangerous. Every time the government takes these little freedoms... The freedom to take care of yourself how you deem fit... they get closer to taking major freedoms away from us. Since motorcycles are dangerous, we should require helmets... 'Well trans fats aren't necessarily dangerous, but people shouldn't eat them, so let's ban them' (already happening)... Next thing you know, 'well motorcycles are dangerous, even with helmets, and they serve no real purpose, so why don't we ban them too?' Think that's far-fetched? BELIEVE IT... and that's not the only example you can find... similar ideas have been brought up for many years. Even more scary than that is legislating away people's ability to make good decisions. People rely on the government too much already and this sort of legislation promotes the collective suckling of the governments teet by way of making decisions that should be simple enough to make. Natural selection is being legislated out of existance. You want to save yourself... or at least protect yourself while participating in an inherently dangerous activity? Do it. You want to take chances that really only impact your personal safety? Do it. If it doesn't hurt anyone, but you... DO IT. Shouldn't it be my decision and my personal responsibility to determine how I take care of myself?

You are right... If I would have felt the ride was out of hand, I would have broke off. You'll note that I rode in the rear most of the ride. Not right or wrong... It's just your ride ideal, is not the same as mine. I was simply stating some of my expectations. It was an oversight on my part to not initiate the discussion about everyone's expectations. That may not be important to others, but it is for me... making it my responsibility. I was riding well within my abilities and did not push myself at all until EagledriverDRZ and I were alone. That particular turn had some loose bits that if everyone would have been together, we could have got some advanced warning. Not being familiar with the roads myself, I know it would have helped me negotiate that turn... as I did run a bit wide on it. That being said, I am not blasting anyone... In fact, there was not one person on that ride that I didn't think was a straight shooter and I wouldn't ride with again. I just want to set clear expecations for what I am looking for and what others are looking for. That way, we all get out of it, exactly what we are looking for.

Awesome.

I know my fingers are crossed...
