    OMRL

I plan on doing the full season for stock XR and F3. I'll also post up when/if we hit up a practice day. For those who weren't involved last season, Kent announced at the banquet that OMRL is attempting to get at least one date at a third facility. Circleville Raceway Park (CRP) is run in both directions on alternating weekends, so that's sort of 2 tracks. That's 8 rounds right there. Then Pittsburgh International Raceway (PIRC) is a full weekend event for the Eastern Mini Roadracing Championship (tell your friends - NJ mini GP shows up as well, and the grids are pretty big. Many of you have been on the kart track on 4 wheels) Lastly, Kent is trying to get a date at a track that closed down, and is attempting to reopen. 2. I am shocked and amazed that no one has bought our daughter HD apparel yet. My wife's friends know I ride, but they have no concept of how/what I ride. The only piece of motorcycle baby clothing we own is a Road Racing World.com onesie, and that's sized so that she can wear it during race season, so still huge on her at this point.

    Midohio

I wouldn't sweat new tires for beginner... if they're not too old, even touring tires are fine for a novice pace. Yes, the tires have their limits, but that can be said of ANY tire. A stickier tire isn't going to "save" you from crashing, it's just going to let you crash at a higher speed, and deeper into trouble you should have learned to avoid at a lower speed. Q2's are more than adequate for Novice/Intermediate. I raced on them for a season and did plenty of "Advanced" riding on them after that. Tires don't make you faster, they allow you to go faster. A lot of people seem to buy more tire than their pace requires. I don't know what tires are mounted on the big kat right now, but if I can afford a day at Mid-Ohio, I'm confident that I won't look out of place in Intermediate regardless of the tires.
  4. oh I totally want one - I'm not sure I would race it when the XR is faster and cheaper, but I'd street ride the hell out of it. Plus it could be my wife's scoot when I'm on the big bike and she doesn't feel like having me scare her.
  5. don't break it down by bike type, break it down by owner profile. Young people make bad decisions more often. Those bad decisions likely include buying a sport bike as their first ride. Combine that with the greater performance potential of sport bikes, and that stat is not at all surprising - it IS irrelevant when you're trying to use it as a claim to justify not wearing safety gear. I would further add that "registered motorcycles" does not take into account how much (or how little) they are ridden. If my 60 yr old uncle has a cruiser registered, but only rides it once a year, obviously his risk of crashing is far lower than a sportbike rider in his 20's who is commuting to work or school daily.
  6. I wonder if Barnacle Bill will make me an actually power-ranger leather suit...
  7. I believe he said "the stereotypical HD rider." the humor in any stereotype comes from the inherent absurdity of believing it actually applies to ALL members of a given group. If it hasn't been obvious from my posts in this thread, I vacillate on Harleys. I have no plans or desire to own one, and I think they are mechanically inferior in some ways to their competition, but at the same time, I applaud their ability to market and build brand loyalty. Enthusiasm for low-powered and out-dated two-wheeled technology is still enthusiasm for two-wheels. That (generally) benefits all of us, and is something to embrace.
  8. I hear this a lot, but I don't agree that higher resale adds to the value when the purchase price is also higher to begin with. Perhaps HD's do in fact depreciate at a slower rate than their Japanese counterparts, but especially when you're financing one for longer, you're eating into that alleged additional value.
  9. it has one. www.ohiominigp.com As for the give-away, I'm going to be realistic about the objective here: publicity and promotion for the dealership. No need to hide that or apologize for it. With that said, "checking in" on facebook at the dealership, or posting a pic of yourself in front of the dealer would be a good way to generate the desired publicity, and each pic/check-in would be a single raffle entry. In the alternative (or in conjunction with the picture entry), you could also buy raffle tickets at $X to benefit a charity of the dealership's choice.
  10. These are street plastics, so the uppers are really individual side pieces, but point taken on the extremities. I am thinking local sale on CL will be worth taking less money.
  11. Another forum advised using UPS instead of USPS for "oversized" packages. They claimed it was always cheaper unless your item fit one if the prepaid boxes.
  12. So just to be clear, the answer to my question was "no," correct? You haven't ridden on a track and don't actually have any first-hand knowledge of whether or not it fits your own definition of "adventurous?" Like I said, I wasn't bashing street riding or touring trips. I understand the allure, because I've done it. You appear to be writing off something you haven't tried.
  13. I'm not telling anyone what to do, or claiming anyone is wrong. All I'm saying is that "safer" doesn't necessarily mean "safe." Everything I have read and heard through news outlets has indicated that nicotine ingestion isn't a healthy habit. New products aren't thoroughly tested, and many people have no clue what their vapor juice actually contains.
  14. I plan on making my own boxes for selling individual pieces on eBay. How much are the larger side panels going to cost to ship? More than they're worth? eBay has perfect condition parts going for $42-$95 with free shipping on the big side panels. I feel like my panels are worth $15-20 each, but I can't eat shipping if its going to run $20
  15. Maybe I'm a more casual coffee drinker than I give myself credit for, but I see my buddy's gf on her ecig a lot more often than I'm holding a coffee
  16. If only you wanted to trade for a katana in a mild state of disassembly...
  17. Demonizing them? I don't think it's fair to characterize information you don't want to hear as "demonizing" the activity. If I talk about the risks associated with motorcycle crashes, that doesn't mean I'm demonizing the sport. You may infer that, regardless of whether or not that's my implication. Based on what I have read about e-cigs, the only variable they remove from the smoking equation is actual smoke. That means a hugely reduced risk of lung cancer, and associated ailments. But as the article notes, the nicotine (and other toxins) remain. My understanding is that nicotine increases the risk of stroke and heart disease, regardless of how it is consumed. So are e-cigarettes "healthy?" I don't think it's fair to say that they are. Are they healiER than smoking tobacco? In the sense that they eliminate smoke ingestion from the user's body, yes - but only in that capacity.
  18. for the briefest moment I pictured a Pontiac instead of a Triumph.

    Ukraine

the news reports about this make me kind of chuckle... The older brother of one of my very good friends goes to the Ukraine 2-3 times a year. He Skype's with "long lost" relatives, etc. Anyway, Ray reports that "none of the things you hear about the violence are true." I suspect that for 99% of the country, he's right. This political conflict is probably mostly true, but I think portraying the violence as a civil war in the making is like taking the L.A. riots and claiming the United States was falling into anarchy... Just something to keep in mind as far as the perspective of these reports. The reality is likely very similar to America - everyone is pissed off, but most people are apathetic and will do nothing.
  20. there was another thread about this. I applied to be a beta tester. Basically they thank you for signing up, then tell you to pimp their product on facebook, twitter, etc. if you want to be selected. Not a bad marketing strategy, but likely more effort than it's worth for me. At least it is this week. I may feel differently when I'm riding to work daily.
  21. I would guess this is first and foremost a customer service job. You can learn about parts and gear. Teaching someone to be helpful and polite is surprisingly difficult.
  22. If I was single and didn't have school debt, I would scratch and claw my way into this job by any means possible. As an aside, I may be shooting a PM your way, Nathan. I have a pet project in the back of my mind to get Motorcycle Police Officers wearing more substantial safety gear. Wanted to run some ideas past RidersDiscount to assess the feasibility of assisting. Don't worry, I'm not asking for free product
