  1. it's about what the transmission and brakes will tolerate. i was looking at towing specs for the I-4 and V-6 kia sportage before we bought my wife's cute-ute. The towing capacity is identical for both, unless you add trailer brakes; then suddenly the V6 can handle double the weight.
  2. www.spartanleathers.com also has factory replica suits for $250 on clearance. Not sure if they're 2-piece, but you can't be the price for an entry level suit. **edit - they have 1-piece for Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki. 2-piece is only in Suzuki (that I could find) http://www.spartanleathers.com/main/store/closeouts/suzuki2pcreplicasuit?zenid=ub4tbbj8nkd5c89llaj4cfpel5 Or you would probably fit my 1-piece that I'm getting ready to post for sale. My 'new' suit arrives no later than Wednesday, so unless it fits horribly, mine will be up for sale this week.
  3. what's Pauly's SN? I don't knwo what's wrong with the forks. May just need new seals, and it may be more involved.
  4. Sorry I didn't make it out to play. The weather cleared up and the sun came out a couple of times Saturday afternoon, and given that the track is about 40 miles from my house, I was crossing my fingers that you guys would get a few dry sessions in during the afternoon. Sounds like everyone had a good time though. My intention saturday morning was to flush my antifreeze and get water wetter into the bike for the season. I ended up deciding swapping the brake pads would be a good call too, so I don't have to deal with cleaning the silicone more than once this season. anyway, in the process of removing my right side caliper, I noticed it was covered in oil... Not good. My right fork is weeping pretty badly. So my bike was supposed to be ready to ride by Saturday afternoon. This is how it currently sits: I figured if the front wheel needed to come off to get the fork work done, I may as well get the new tires mounted at the same time/place. Going to MPH Ohio tomorrow, unless anyoen has better recommendations in the Cleveland area.
  5. you don't want others to see your brake light. it's annoyingly distracting at 140mph on hte back straight. Pull the fuses, or the bulbs if you can. The tape is there to keep the lenses from shattering all over if you crash, but blocking out the lights is a secondary purpose for sure. taping up the OEM signals is fine. Last time I ride with MotoSeries on a street bike (in 2008), they asked that i remove my license plate as well. Should it become detached, it's like a giant razor blade. Remove it if you can.
  6. B, but move forward as slowly as possible. You cna't control how much room the car behind you is leaving; so your only option is to control his pace. if he's leaving 30 feet, then you can get up to 30 mph; if he's only leaving 10 feet, don't go above 10 mph. You base your pace on the stopping distance he leaves. ...or split traffic to avoid being on and off the clutch constantly. But really, that should be in the back of your mind as an escape route.
  7. pics are uploading from my camera to photobucket as I type this. I literally snapped them this morning with my phone after I read the email notification that you had replied to this thread, so I'll get better quality pics later. My wife is actually working from home today, so I might be able to convince her to use a real camera today instead of having to wait to do it myself tonight.
  8. She lives! Been a while since I've seen you on a forum!
  9. I'd never heard that, and that sounds like pretty solid advice. Learn something new every day. Emailing this to some friends of mine. good lookin' out.
  10. ditto. I just don't want another money pit during track season
  11. that makes sense. The liquor license is already well established. the 50% threshold was proposed for "smoke free ohio" exemptions as well. I recall someone saying that establishments who collected more than 50% of their revenue from the sale of alcohol wanting to be able to file for an exemption. to play devil's advocate though, how am I supposed to know whether or not a place has a liquor license when i'm standing in the parking lot? Chipotle used to sell beer. maybe they still do; i'm honestly not sure, but I know there was definitely a time when some of them by me did, and some didn't.
  12. early on I would ride for fun, but the last couple of years my street riding was almost exclusively commuting to work and school.
  13. do they define the term "restaurant?" I would expect that to mean an establishment that earns greater than 50% of their revenue through the sale of food, but if it's just any establishment that sells food, or the percentage is significantly lower, many "bars" would qualify.
  14. last time I got nailed was 79 in a 60. "is there a reason you're going so fast today?" "not a good one officer... we're late for a wedding, but I realize that's not an excuse." I figured between my suit and the wedding present in the back seat, he had to believe me, and might actually cut me some slack because I was apologetic and didn't try to bullshit him. no dice. Thankfully it was only $107. In Brecksville. I was shocked.
  15. I know we're all joking around, but to be deadly serious, running puts you at risk of getting a murder charge. If you're committing a felony (fleeing) and someone else dies in a traffic accident as a result of your felony fleeing, that's considered "felony murder."
  16. I would hardly call an SV650 "slow," but I agree with your sentiment. If i were to get another street bike, it would probably be a first-gen SV650, and then I'd gear it down -1/+3 or something so it wheelies/accelerates in virtually any gear, and tops out a little over 100mph.
  17. *PRICE MODIFIED AFTER I DID SOME EBAY PRICE COMPARISONS (ebay suit of similar age, and but better condition went for $50 + $30 shipping) Size 42 (now verified in pic below) Fieldsheer brand. definitely been down, repaired, and down again; but it's in usable condition. All zippers work, including the 360 degree zipper than holds the pants and jacket together. I'm 6' and ~175. Last time I wore it, i was closer to 185 and fit into it, but it's short, and it looks, "a little sexy," according to my brother. someone in the 5'8" - 5"10 range who weighs a few lbs. less than me should be about perfect. It ain't fancy, but it's good quality thick leather. No knee-pucks included, unless you want one of the old sets i've got in my garage just to cover the velcro. They'd be good to have in case you crashed, so the fabric wouldn't get torn up. Was: $90 Now: $45 Pics added 4/15/11: Pants (front) note the 2 circular patches on either side of the zipper. pants (back) scuffing from a slide, but no holes or excessive wear Jacket tag: (failed to upload, but it just says it's a US 42...) Jacket (front) Jacket (back) \ Based on the pictures, you can tell that someone took a pretty good slide on their front side in this suit. The pants likely wore through where they did because of the 360 degree zipper. The zipper put added pressure at those points during the slide. In its day, this was probably a pretty high-end suit, because it's got pretty serious knee and elbow armor; more than the newer Fieldsheer 1-piece i've worn for the last 3 years. When the pants and jacket are zipped together, there is a 'belt' on the bottom of the jacket that fastens with velcro to strengthen the area where the fly and jacket zipper come together. Basically it's a fail-safe for either of those zippers separating during a crash.
  18. truth. I had a kid willing to pay me $1800 for my EX500. he was dead serious about paying asking price, but I knew it was never going to happen when he said, "just let me talk to a bank about a loan." There's no such thing as an $1800 loan... If you can't afford to drop $1800, no bank in the world is going to lend it to you. I should have suggested he try "Pay Days." I also had some a-hole offer me $700 for my 600RR that was listed at $3800. CL is a mindfuck.
  19. yeah, the neighbor kid had the GI Joe SR-71 Blackbird. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world when I was 8. He was a little older than me and got sick of it. it got "shot down" and burned to a melted pile of plastic in his back yard. my little brothers were PISSED. They wanted that thing so bad...
  20. If anyone is renting a suit for this weekend, mine will likely be for sale within the next week. I am hesitant to post it for sale before the new one arrives and I try it on, but if someone was planning on renting this weekend and I can save them a few bucks by avoiding that, I live pretty close to the track and wouldn't mind an excuse to stop by.
  21. ^ This attitude is why it's hard to sell a salvaged bike and usually not an easy way to make money. Whether there's cause for concern, or the bike was salvaged based on cosmetic damage alone, people assume the worst. Personally, I would consider a salvaged bike, but I would expect the price to be ~25% lower than a comparable bike with a clear title. As it pertains to track bikes, I'm more open to exploring why the bike was salvaged. If there was fork or frame damage, I'm out. If it was paint and fairings, I couldn't care less... I'd be more receptive to buying a salvaged cruiser though. I really don't mean to beat up on that crowd, but it's not like they need to handle great to begin with, and they're never going to surpass 100mph. Hell, tweaking the forks in a head-on collision might make a cruiser turn-in BETTER.
  22. Miller is in the middle of nowhere. Harder to draw fans. Austin will be a great location.
  23. my brother's birthday is in August. Any idea what this runs? I'm 28, and my brothers and I used to get 1 GI Joe guy every time we went to K-Mart (if we'd done all our chores for a couple weeks straight). We must have had over a hundred, and played with them violently. I have done more GI Joe "surgeries" than I can count. "Duke's thumb broke off, and Heavy-Duty's leg snapped at the knee. where's dad's tiny phillips-head screwdriver? We can rebuild him. We have the technology..." I'm betting we were a little too young to own many of the really collectible figures and vehicles, but we probably had a few. Next year's Halloween costume is shaping up to be "Night Creeper Leader." I plan to have fun with that.
