    Pawn shops

today we're going to the actual gun shop. Hoping for better selection, and more knowledge from the staff.
  2. That was the first mini van my parents owned. The extended length model in grey and navy blue. I don't remember which engine it had, but I do recall that it's basically a Ford Ranger with an enclosed rear section. They were honestly pretty good "trucks." Modern mini vans are just tall cars by comparison.

    Pawn shops

Nostradamus! The first place we went (big sign that I see off the highway daily) was really nice, but didn't have any firearms. They had a cool old Chevy C-10 and a badass vintage Thunderbird next to a 2009(?) Thunderbird. the second place was all power tools and 2 small cases of firearms. Way overpriced. He had once case of new guns, which weren't bad, but I don't go to a pawn shop for new stuff... The used case was overpriced for sure. the 25 ACP's were the cheapest, and they were still $100 more than they should have been. There was a beat up 38 revolver that I would have paid $80 or $90 for, marked at $198. Tomorrow I'm just going to hit up the local gun shops and ask what they have in used inventory.
  4. that's cool, but it should be totally unnecessary... if people would obey the marked passing lines and leave a gap behind the truck so they can accelerate before moving into the opposing lane, lane changes would be totally safe.

    Pawn shops

Went to the range for work yesterday. Remembered how enjoyable it is to put holes in things. Heading to the local pawn shop at lunch to see what kind of firearms they have to offer. Anything in particular I should look for (i.e. avoid) when shopping someone else's leftovers? I know I am going to find mostly garbage. As infrequently as I shoot, I'm okay with that. Just looking for a cheap 38 special or something.
  6. i'll be testing Harry's GPS timer on an iPhone 4 with the UltiMate external GPS sensor on 7/18/15. Still figuring out how to use it, and it's impossible to test without creating a track near my house. That's a task I haven't had time to accomplish yet, so I'll probably waste most of practice getting it set up, then forget to turn it on in the race!
  7. before he died, my parents' neighbor had the world's oldest Gravely multi-mower. It was a tank. The starter button was foot-activated and VERY near a gear and chain that rotated when you activated the starter. Totally unsafe. I pulled a picture of it
  8. I thought that too, but it's not a horrible asking price. And with a spare set of wheels, etc., it's not totally out-of-line. Especially if it comes with a transponder.
  9. I think $3k is a good starting point. the spares give you some ground to be firmer on a price, but it's a 13 year old bike. The issue isn't how much yours is worth, it's what else someone can buy for the same money. Faulty logic or not, a lot of people would rather buy a 2005 bike with fewer extras for the same price. In their mind, they're getting a "better" bike simply because it's newer. I had a 2003 600RR and it was better than I was... I don't think many club racers could claim otherwise.
  10. so much want... If there's any chance in hell you would take a down-payment and then let me hide monthly payments from my wife, I would be highly interested!
  11. I like where your head is at, but driving a 2wd truck in the snow isn't awesome. Plan on buying snow tires nad having weight in the bed for sure. I used to buy a crappy pool float and fill it with water every winter. It freezes surprisingly quickly.
  12. can you shed some light onto what you're using the truck for? I am a firm believer that having a gas guzzler is cheaper than having a car payment, but (cheap) trucks are a compromise from the start... Again, I liked my ranger. I found it to be everything I expected. The ride wasn't bad. The 4.0 had enough gusto to get out of its own way for sure. The extended cab was roomy enough to keep stuff protected from the weather and recline the seat, and the small interior (compared to a car) meant the heat and AC were very efficient. the only time I didn't love that truck was in the winter when I would back out of my driveway, and not move an inch when I tried to pull forward. I literally backed around the block and back into my driveway one morning, then called into work to let them know i'd be late...
  13. Just downloaded Harry's GPS lap timer and have the external GPS antenna. Having some trouble understanding the whole thing right now, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually. Anyone already using it?
  14. I can assure you Ohio does. ORC 2151.87 Amended 8/2/2014 As defined by ORC 2927.02:
  15. Jb covers diesel and hotel. I would have been fine camping for $0, but I'm not one to turn down a free bed. I brought $200 in cash and came home with $14. That included paying for practice, gate, transponder, insurance, two race classes, subway, and dinner at the Italian dive. If you're dropping $400 into the weekend, you're choosing to.
  16. i didn't count Saturday practice because we don't normally do a full day of practice at CRP on Saturday before a Sunday race. The $50 Saturday practice isn't required and there was plenty of track time on Sunday. I know some people didn't pay, and honestly I think that's shitty. If the staff noticed, I'm sure they'll hold it against us in the future. That said, the employees may have pocketed my $50. I didn't get a receipt or anything... Still, I'd rather have them be the ones stealing than me.
  17. The costs aren't that much different. 2 classes at CRP is $65 (race fees + gate/insurance + transponder). 2 classes at PIRC was $100 even. PIRC is waaaaaaaaaaay more than $35 nicer than CRP. I'm not "defensive" about PIRC, I'm disappointed that the club probably took a $2,000 hit because not enough people showed up. I 'skipped' G&J because my wife was out of town for work from Thursday through Monday, and I didn't have a babysitter for two days. The novice grids only had a handful of riders this weekend, Todd. You could have crashed on lap 2 and taken fifth place... But that's assuming you're only racing for the points. Aren't you having fun out there? Skipping an awesome track just because you assume you're not fast there sounds like you're taking it too seriously.
  18. that guy on the 1000RR is doing great burnouts but getting garbage launches. I'm not good at launching either, but I'm also not calling out Harleys to race.
  19. I though Harleys were supposed to hold their value.
  20. you're that concerned with the points race?
  21. you could have done that at PIRC! But for real, I was disappointed to see so many people missing. A lot had pretty legitimate excuses, but it was great riding conditions. With the smaller grids, practice wasn't the least bit chaotic. The ambulance never rolled. I ran out of gas right before taking the white flag in XR race one, and finished a lap down. My XR race 2 video has some good passing footage as a result
  22. This is what I was referencing, but I thought there was an iPhone version as well
  23. Weather be damned! We rode all day Saturday and didn't get rain until we were out for dinner. Sunday races were all dry starts. There were a few sprinkles at lunch, but the track was dry again before the second set of heat races - that's right, I said second heat TONS of track time this weekend. I turned at least 100 laps.
  24. I liked my ranger. The only problem I ever had with it was suspension bits wearing out. It had 130,000 miles or more on it by then... The 4.0 may do slightly better with the manual transmission, but I was getting 17-18mpg in real-world driving conditions. If you do the speed limit on the highway and don't run AC, 22mpg is possible. I only ever got that while following my (then future) mother-in-law to Philadelphia. She wasn't a grandma then, but she drove like one... but for $750, I wouldn't worry too much about economy.
  25. One of the AFJ guys was raving about his app-based gps timer. You need an external antenna, but the basic app is free.
