  1. we need more days like friday. I went out with a bunch of the cincy guys. now my bike is back up on stands with the wheels off. It's a shame we get taunted by such short days of good weather and salt on the road.
  2. I picked up a seven sola about 2 years ago (had the frame fabricated to my specs) and it's the last mountain bike I'll ever get. As for trek bikes, they're one of the best large production bikes out there. They have been race proven by several pros: lance, roland green, and MTB hall of famer travis brown. The biggest perk is the consumer can ride a bike identical to the pros. Seven sola was the bike of choice for the US olympic MTB team. anyhow, that STP should sell easily if you post it in the right places. Also, I have a kestrel talon SL frameset I'm trying to get rid of. Offers?
  3. I've never ridden with a scorpion helmet but the people who own them tend to like them. However, there are features in the shoei and arai helmets I do suggest simply to extend the life of the helmet and provide much more comfort during longer rides. Fully removable liner allows you to wash it and replace it when the padding wears out, significantly lighter in weight to reduce strain on your neck, ventilation in multiple regions of the helmet that REALLY WORK, and a very quiet interior due to a well sealed visor. I can't suggest any particular helmet because they all have different geometry to exactly fit your head. I just picked up an RX7 the other day and it produces a little pressure in my forehead vs my shoei X-11 that is a snug feeling all around (no forehead pressure). Arai provides different shape helmets as well if you look on the website. Both shoei and arai helmets can be found as low as $350 if you pick solid colors, but the quality is unmatched by several companies. Before you make any opinions, I simply suggest trying some of these on. I'm not far from your place either so if you want to try either of these, I wear a large and I'll bring them by sometime.
  4. I'd be all over that bike if I was in the market for one right now. It's a good deal. I'll keep my eyes open. Are the XTR components dual control or rapid fire?
  5. nice rig you have there. what size is the frame? 17"? I may be able to find a buyer for that.
  6. I think I have a spare gear shifter sitting around from my old bike. It's never been used. I just need to dig it up.
  7. I think I'll be down there for it. That'll be a hell of a trip.
  8. So after watching this video, I'm curious how much government debt was racked up in wasted expenses. Opinions? http://www.wimp.com/videobanned/
  9. everything that is good and withing driving distance is east. If you want just an evening then mad river. Make a weekend out of your trips and network with people you or a friend may know out east to cut out hotel expenses. Seven springs is an hour south of pittsburgh, snowshoe is one of the best for close range, or there are several in new york (6-8 hour drive) but it's great for 3 day weekends. windum, hunter, holiday valley.... they are all a little south of syracuse. As for buying a snowboard, don't by a cheap new one, get a good used on first. The higher end new ones will cost you between $450 and $600 for just the board. The laminate on the cheap boards separates easily and you will destroy the board before the end of the season. Also avoid the step in bindings, the restrict your flexibility on the board and don't have a secure your feet well enough, causing you to lose some input to the board for carving and small position adjustments while you ride. Buy a good set of boots and bindings (burton custom or flo bindings are suggested by me) and get a board separately. You can change your bindings to any board you want after that.
  10. For the record, I wasn't the one that crashed. It was a guy outside all the forums that came along. He was riding outside his limits though.
  11. I don't know what the weather looks like for the next few days, but I think my bike is going back together so I can have it ready for florida..... and ride it a bit on the warmer days
  12. so I'm in florida and I haven't had pants on in 3 days. I don't think I'm prepared to go to any dress up club. however, there's a no pants party down here and all ladies are invited.
  13. yeah, my bike is in all kinds of pieces and I'm about half way across the country from my bike so I have to deal with it. I'm in florida while the bike is still in ohio. I need to get my priorities straight.
  14. brennan, dude... I have shorties on my bike. I love them because they keep my knuckles from hitting the end of the levers when I pull them. Super adjustable to help prevent that too. If you only grab you brakes with 2 fingers ( which shouldn't take any more) then you should get shorties. ( allowed to ignore cuz I've been drinking a bit. I still love them, but I'm a mountain biker too. all levers are 2 finger)
  15. look at your HID kit from www.xenonlink.com. I got the 10,000 kelvin H7 kit from them over a year ago and it's been great. It's a simple plug and play system and take maybe 30 minutes to install. Total cost was $75 for the low beam. After it's installed, angle the low beam up a bit to get better visibility. I don't suggest installing a high beam, I blew a bunch of fuses from flicking the high beam on and off too much.

it's been boring on the east side too. I'm getting close to leaving my job for a new one, but this will require me to leave the state. I'm not sure what the plan is yet, but all I can do is wait.
  17. I would be interested in picking up a set of the AK gas cartridges. I've heard mostly good reviews. What kind of pricing can you offer?
  18. hey dude, long time. Yeah congrats on the new zx10. You picked a good model year too. I'm working in cincinnati right now and amy is down in maryland. Things are going well for us still. I think I'm going to move in with here in the near future. I'll have to let you know next time I'm in columbus for a while and get together with you and the others.

cincinnati people didn't die down, we just never post cuz we're chillin somewhere. Went to the club last weekend, shooting today and party tomorrow. I don't think bikes in the winter..... it's guns girls and beer. Where the hell have the rest of you been?
  20. The cam chain tensioner holder just prevents one of the pistons form dropping out of sync when turning the camshaft to check the intake and exhaust valves. It's just suggested in the manual to hold that in place when performing the check. I've read that I could just stick a flathead screwdriver in the port for the tensioner holder to prevent this from happening. I will only have to remove the cams if I need to adjust the valves, but it's not necessary for the check. I'm on the fence with the clutch. I need to replace the plates, but I'm considering a yoyodyne slipper as a replacement. Thing is I don't plan on tracking this bike any time soon. The bike I do get for the track, however, will get a slipper.
  21. no worries lizard, I have the complete OEM service manual in a PDF and printed out in a binder. I need to to pick up some angled feeler gauges and the cam chain tensioner holder and I'll be set. I can't find the ladder anywhere online so I need to go to my honda dealer and order one. I've heard the hondas will go well past their service life for a valve check (15,000 suggested) and I'm already 10,000 past that. Being winter time, I'm not missing any riding while the bike is torn apart. A certainly don't want to risk blowing my motor next spring if the valves do need adjustment. I also need to get into replacing the clutch, but I want to install stiffer clutch springs if you have any suggestions. I'm surprised the original clutch plates have lasted this long.
  22. Is exactly what you need nate. Ergonomic, solid, doubles as bar weight, oh and they'll impale you better if you crash.
  23. too late brandon, I'm checking the wear on the shims. Fortunately I don't have to drop the engine, but I do need to order a small tool to do it.
  24. I should make the kid sit down and watch 20 consecutive episodes until it's burned into his head.
