The .38 round is not rimfire. Anything bigger than .22 is center fire. I had one given to me that jammed a bunch. Called Hi-point, sent it in and had it back in 2 weeks with a whole new slide and trigger and it worked perfectly. Also got a free magazine and ghost sights. Cant say enough about their warranty and service. Not a pretty gun, but functional.

Its a nice piece. Cant go wrong with a S&W.

I cant say enough good things about my S&W 638 airweight. Its is light, shoots great, fits comfortably in my pocket all day, is unnoticeable and draws easily and shoots .38 Special +P. BOOM! I have been carrying it every day for about 2 years and dont see me ever wanting another carry gun.

Dude, you've been wrestling with this decision for over a year now. Go with the 638 and call it a day. For everyday carry, you cant beat a wheel gun. I'll let you shoot mine at the cabin this weekend. You'll love it.
