  1. That's good, I'm glad that's all that happened and that you guys still had fun I saw the cop as soon as we crested the hill, but the way he was standing made it look like he had just pulled someone over and was doing paperwork on the top of his car like you sometimes see them do. It wasn't until we passed him that I realized he had a laser out, but we weren't going too terribly fast anyway. The fact that he wasn't scrambling to get in his car when we passed told me that he wasn't going to come after us, so I thought nothing of it.
  2. Great ride today guys. Especially that first bit before we regrouped at the gas station; those the fastest sweepers I've ever done, and it felt pretty badass to be on my scrappy 650 and keeping up with you guys who know the roads and are on much faster bikes I'm sure you weren't pushing that hard, but it was a nice little treat for me I almost died laughing when Elliot asked if he was slowing me up and if I wanted him to drop back a spot Can't wait to make another trip up there again and take a much longer ride! To everyone who got separated: I'm really sorry about that, I have no idea what happened. One minute you were there and the next we're down to 5. At first I assumed you got stopped by the traffic light and would catch up, so we continued on at a pretty slow pace. I misunderstood hand signals from the guy with the 848 (sorry, I'm terrible with names); I thought he was just letting me know that we lost some and that we should continue on slowly so you could catch up. We eventually pulled over and waited for ~10 mins, and I turned around and went all the way back to the last place we saw you and didn't see anyone, so I set a landspeed record or two heading back to meet up with the others. Lesson learned; if I'm leading ever again and lose people*, I'll pull over immediately and not just slow down and wait to see if they catch up. *Unless it's out in the twisties and it's just assumed that we'll all meet up at the next stop sign or something...obviously.
  3. So on the way home from the Coshocton ride I managed to clip an Acura. Sweet. Riding through some small town on 62, had a lapse of attention, and bam. Saw the guy too late, locked the brakes with maybe <10 feet to go. Managed to swerve mostly out of the way, I sort of bounce off of him and into the grass. Couldn't have been doing more than 10 mph. What I think happened was that there was originally someone between us slowing down, while the guy was already stopped. The person who was slowing down in front of me turned left onto another street and I wasn't paying enough attention to notice that I still had to stop because there was stopped traffic just ahead. It would have been a lot worse if I hadn't tried to turn away; otherwise I'd probably have been in his back seat. As you can see from the picture of my bike, the slider ripped through his bumper and ceased motion as soon as it hit the edge of the quarter panel...which was very much made of metal and not plastic like the bumper. After the hit I was thrown sideways a bit and onto the grass, which was at a fairly steep angle and probably too steep to have safely swerved onto anyway. There was about 6 inches between his car and the grass, so I really had nowhere to go. The bike ended up on its right side, and the right frame slider and foot peg took all of the damage. Slider is worn down a little bit but can be used another day; my foot peg broke in half so I get to replace that soon. What you see in the pic of the fairing/slider is pretty much all of the damage. There are scuffs on the tank from my leathers, but they'll buff out just fine. Virtually everything else can be taken care of with a good wash and several coats of wax. The guys car didn't fair too well. As I said my slider ripped through his bumper and hit the edge of the quarter panel, "wrinkling" it up a good bit. My knee slider took out his taillight. I forgot to take pics of the car; it didn't dawn on me that I had a camera (just bought it...I'm new to this photography thing ) until after he had left. Also, as is evident from the lack of pictures of injuries and my complete focus on the material losses so far, I am perfectly, 100% fine physically. Not one scratch. Why? Because I was in FULL GEAR like a good motorcyclist should be. My glove took the worst of it; there's a small tear and there was some shards of tail light plastic embedded in it, which is good evidence that if I hadn't been wearing them, I would have had some pretty significant damage to my pinky finger. My knee slider seems to have been what saved my entire knee. Guys we were riding with today: remember me joking about how shiny and unused my sliders were, and how I probably don't need them cuz I won't use them? Damn good thing I had em on I guess Hell, my leathers aren't even scuffed. Helmet never touched the ground. My right boot is a bit worse for wear, but it's nothing serious. If I had been wearing tennis shoes like I used to, I would be MUCH worse off; I'm pretty sure most of the bikes weight was on my Sidi, but the sole is so rigid that I got away just fine. If I didn't have frame sliders, I probably would have just scraped the car, but the slider destroyed the bumper and caught the quarter panel, which threw the bike sideways with the slider as a pivot point. Honestly, I think the frame slider and my pants/knee slider puck saved my leg; if the bike hadn't been thrown sideways like it had and I didn't have that big hunk of plastic velcroed to my knee, I probably would have crushed my leg from the knee down. So, yeah. 75$ ticket for stopping distance or whatever, and some hurt pride. If I buy new OEM plastic and a new OEM peg, I'll probably be out 350-400$ for bike repairs, but I'm going to try to get some used stuff and save money. I won't be fixing it any time soon though; it's all cosmetic and I don't have the money right now Also, my insurance rates are going to go up to retardedly high amounts. I pay 88$/month right now. I have a ticket on my record that the insurance company hasn't noticed yet, so I'm betting that when I report this on monday they'll also take notice of that ticket, so my rates will be going up for the wreck AND for that ticket. AWESOME! I'll be shocked if I end up paying no more than 160/month for the next 3 years. Anyway, other than that, great ride today guys Sorry we lost half the group on the way to Coshocton; I havn't even looked at the other threads here yet to find out what happened there. I'm sure I'll be weighing in on that shortly in the appropriate threads.
  4. I know your intro post said you're from OSU; if you're near the campus area and wanna ride over with me and Bkizz you can stop by my place around 12:30-12:45, I'm one street east of lane and high. Otherwise we'll keep an eye out for ya at Iron Pony, I'm sure your bike will be really easy to pick out of a crowd
  5. Sorry to hear that man... Was this on Main St? Coulda been a lot worse if it was in heavier traffic out there, glad you survived mostly in tact
  6. I'll get to Iron Pony a bit before 1 for the ride; that seems to be the time people have settled on. I'll look for you guys, or at least some bikes parked with OR stickers. Flag me down if you see me and I look lost...I'll be on a blue 650r in black leathers (yeah...full leathers...here's hoping we don't end up standing around in the parking lot for an hour ) Also, my cell # is 330-603-6786, call/text if anything comes up and plans change or if the ride starts without me

    Take the poll

I'd liek to write-in a vote for boats & hoes.
  8. Welcome! When not down at OSU, I spend my time up in my native home of Stow. My favorite place to ride when I'm up there is an area near East Canton...we'll have to ride sometime
  9. I'm of the opinion that it really isn't hard to stay in shape as long as you find out what works for you. I've always been on the heavy side, probably peaking at about 190 late in high school/early college (I'm about 5' 9"). I tried everything from the low-fat, low-calorie thing to the simple "eat less, exercise more", but nothing really worked and I hated every minute of it because I didn't get to eat anything I liked. Then I stumbled upon the Glycemic Load Diet last November and things changed completely. It's sort of like Atkins, but instead of saying "no carbs" it just says "no sugar, no starch", and backs up the idea with some really compelling evidence. Wow, what a difference it made. By simply cutting out starch and sugar, I lost 10 lbs over winter quarter with absolutely no cardio exercise. Actually it was probably more than 10 lbs of fat lost, but I built up a decent amount of muscle because I was lifting weights 3 days a week the whole time. Plus I got to eat my favorite foods; steak, pork, chicken, eggs, bacon, sausage...all that great stuff. You should have seen the looks I'd get when going to City BBQ with my friends and getting a full rack of ribs and saying "it's cool, I'm on a diet" Hell, I start off each day with a 3-egg cheese omlete, 4 strips of bacon, and several sausage patties/links. The funny thing is is that I sort of fell off the wagon towards the end of last quarter and havn't really had the motivation to get back to it 100%. I'm still losing weight though! I'm almost down to 175, and that's still without any cardio (actually I started doing it recently, but just in the past week) and with lots of weight lifting. I hope to be down to 165 or lower by the end of this quarter. I figure that the low fat stuff never worked for me because even when I was trying really hard to lose weight, I would come home from the gym and have a lunchmeat sandwich or something, toast was a common part of my breakfast, and I would drink lots of things like orange juice thinking that it was all healthy. I guess my body just reacts more to starch than other peoples'. Again, it's really about finding what works for you. If you're one of those people who have a hell of a time losing weight, try some new things, even if they seem to fly in the face of conventional wisdom. Worked for me I'm a fan. I have really bad feet and can't run, and I really hate ellipiticals and other stationary cardio equipment. I used to bike a ton when I lived home; we have tons of bike trails up in northeast Ohio. Me and my roommate are getting into it this quarter...it's really great exercise.
  10. The proper approach is "Want a ride? Trade ya."
  11. I'm in, lemmie know when! *edit* uh oh, this was my 666th post...someone on this ride is going off a cliff in a spectacular ball of fire
  12. Finally, a project that I'm happy to have my tax dollars going towards! We've needed something like this for a long, long time.

    My Dad.......

I'm so sorry to hear this My thoughts are with you and your family. I watched my mom lose her father last year, and I hate to see anyone go through that. Stay strong, and remember to celebrate his life
  14. Welcome! OSU student here too. I live just off campus by Lane and High...if ya see someone on a blue Ninja 650r with black leathers/helmet, gimmie a wave
  15. Alright cool, what time are you gunna hit the road? I personally wouldn't mind skipping the Pony event and just riding all day...standing around in the sun in full [black] leathers doesn't sound terribly appealing lol. If you're heading out sometime in the morning I'm game.
  16. Yep, can't wait. You going to be at the Pony event, or are you just gunna spend a day riding?
  17. This is sort of my standby route that I ride whenever I feel like hitting some twisties without exploring new roads: Start in Logan, take 93 south to Ilesboro Road Bear right onto Ilesboro road, follow it to 374 Left on 374, follow it to 56 Left on 56, take it to 93 Right on 93, follow it to Rt 50 in McArthur Follow 50 West to Prattsville, take 278 north all the way to Nelsonville From Nelsonville take 78 north to McConnelsville Take 60 out of McConnelsville to Zanesville 70 West back to Columbus It's not the most technical route, but it's really fun; especially the first part of 93, the majority of 278, and all of 78. It gets a little boring heading north to Zanesville from McConnelsville, but the scenery is nice along the river. I'm pretty sure you can hit 555 from this route, but I havn't taken it myself so I really can't list it in this route yet.
  18. Ooo, pretty! Now for the cost of a Desmo, you too can own an OLED cell phone I love OLED tech and can't wait for it to hit the mainstream, but for now it's so expensive its insane. I mean, Sony has an OLED TV for sale with an ELEVEN inch screen that costs $2,500

    Are you fat?

Good. I like this policy. Yanno what really grinds my gears? When Fatty McGreaseguzzler is late to class, and insists on sitting in the open seat in the very middle of the crowded 300-person lecture hall. Watching them clumsily wade through an entire row of people to find the seat that they barely fit in anyway is funny in a sad way, but after the humor wears off I just get really mad. Why should everyone else be inconvenienced because you refuse to hit the treadmill?
  20. Sounds good, I'll watch the thread closely. I've been dying to ride Coshocton this season...just ask Kawi Kid
  21. Coshocton eh? Consider me there What time are you guys starting your ride?
  22. I think it was on Digg, but I can't remember. FSM is so much more than a meme RAmen.
  23. So does anyone have any ideas for routes? I'm interested in coming to this but it depends on what sort of riding we'll be doing.
  24. Newbies are always welcome Head to the introduction section and introduce yourself so we can get to know ya!
