  1. Fair enough.

If anyone sees a black '09+ Daytona 675 for sale, let me know...

    *edit*

Googled his loan provider and didnt find anything good whatsoever. No way I'm going to deal with them. This guy is going to have to have the loan paid off or transferred to his bank somehow before I do business with him. Damn, really wanted that bike, too...

  2. Well crap. The bike is financed through Freedom Road Financial - a company that specialzies in bike financing. Meaning there is no bank to deal with in person, so I'll probably keep looking :(

Just to be sure, even if I had a bill of sale signed by all appropriate parties and that included all the nescessary language detailing the lein, lein payoff, and title transfer agreement, and had it notarized, this is still not a good idea?

  3. If your going to the bank with her to pay the lien off then the bank should be taking your info and sending the title to you or have it right there for you to take.

Sounds like this is what I'll do, if anything at all. I shot the guy an email asking if the bike was financed through a bank we could visit in person. Hopefully this is the case, otherwise I guess I'll keep looking :(

    *edit*

Just curious - is a notarized bill of sale a legally binding document?

  4. Man, this has craigslist scam written all over it. If the owner is not present, do not buy. Another bike'll come along. We're coming into the winter now. Good deals will abound.

If this was something I found on Craigslist I would have bailed immediately, but the seller is a regular on a triumph 675-specific forum. Not saying that makes everything legit, but then again I'm asking on here for a reason :D

Sometimes the state will follow up if they suspect that fraud has been committed and they will send you an affidavit to fill out regarding the selling price. As long as you guys both put the same amount then you are golden, but if either of you put a different amount then they will investigate.

We will both be putting the same amount - 4k.

  5. I'm [finally] getting another bike in a few weeks. Found a gorgeous '09 Daytona 675 with low miles out in Maryland that I am aiming to pick up in early December. I'm a first-time used bike buyer and the sale situation is somewhat 'unique' and involves a lein, so I was hoping some of the more experienced used bike buyers here could assess my situation and let me know if there is any way this can go wrong.

    Here's the deal:

-Seller is a contractor currently working in Iraq, but the bike has been transferred to his wife's name who will be present at the time of sale

-Seller has a friend who is a police officer - this guy takes care of the bike while seller is out of the country and he will assist with the bike delivery

-Bike has a lein on it - seller has stated the following: "we can write up an agreement stating you paid for the bike and the loan will be paid in full within 48 hours and have it notarized. As well as mailing the title to you once it is recieved. Once the money is deposited in my account I'll pay off the bike and request for an expedited delivery of the title. I will also 24 hour it to your address to ensure you have it as soon as possible. I will also be keeping the full coverage insurance on my bike until that is done" [sic].

Now, given that the seller's friend is a cop and will be present at the time of sale, I'm betting that this guy is legit and isn't trying to screw me. What I'm assuming he means by 'writing up an agreement' is that we'll type up a document stating the terms of the sale and then take it to the bank where myself and his wife (the title holder) will sign it and have it notarized. Would this notarized agreement be enough to ensure I am covered in case there are any issues with the lein release? Is there anything else I should do to ensure a safe, smooth transaction?

Also, this bike has a quite a bit of mods done to it and all original parts are included in the sale. As such, the seller has agreed to consider the majority of the total price to be cash for the bike and the rest of the price to be for "parts". We have agreed to a number to put on the bill of sale which, while certainly at the low end of the spectrum for this model and year of bike, isn't an unreasonable figure for a used sportbike. Is there any way that this arrangement can come back to bite me in the ass down the road?

Sorry if this topic has been beaten into the ground - I searched and read some older threads but I'm new to this and really want to cover all the bases and make sure this goes well. Thanks!

  6. I really enjoyed "Motorcycle Design and Technology" by Gaetano Cocco. It's fairly technical, but it's great for anyone who wants to know the how and why of the mechanics and physics behind riding.

However, I looked it up on Amazon and it looks like a copy may be tough to come across - at least on Amazon. I can lend you my copy if you are interested.

  7. Same as here.

I'm usually on Forza 4 now though.

    I have the CoD's (MW2 and Black Ops) - may get MW3

    Battlefield 2 - may get BF3

    Halo Reach

How is Forza 4 multiplayer? I've been playing single player non stop and I love it, but I'm hesitant to bite the bullet and resubscribe to XBL and try multiplayer. I wasn't a fan of it in Forza 3...

  8. I'm still in shock. Got back from brunch with the family, sat down in a great mood to see what was hopefully going to be a great race with potential for great showings from Bautista, Edwards, and Simoncelli...and this happens. I had a feeling it wasn't going to be a good outcome when I saw him lying there right after it happened. Those guys know to get up and get off the track ASAP if they have any way to do so, but Marco looked like a rag doll cast aside.

I would have expected something bad to happen to him earlier in the season - he was pretty dangerous at one point. He really seemed to get his act together halfway through the year though. This wasn't the result of recklessness - it was a case of absolute tenacity meets "wrong place, wrong time". If Colin and Vale had been a few feet ahead or behind, we may all be saying "DAMN, did you see Simoncelli's save?!". That's racing, though.

  9. did you overclock?

Stock clocks, but undervolted. Same performance with a bit less battery usage. I tried running it OC'd to 1.2 but it was fairly hard on the battery, and CM7 is so smooth that the overclock wasn't even needed.

I'm flashing to a Gingerbread kernel and CM 7.1 tonight - been running a Froyo kernel for a while because I'm too lazy to reflash sometimes... Should be awesome :D

  10. Root it and you will have all the performance you want

Or take it even further and get a custom kernel and rom :D Droid X here running CyanogenMOD 7.0 - it's shocking how terrible the stock software on most Android phones is, especially Motorola devices. My customized X runs circles around stock Droid X2's even though they pack way more punch under the hood.

  11. SV650s> Ninja 650r

650r's crash into dirt embankments way better than SV650's though!

Anyway, I owned a 650r for several years and loved the bike. Insurance was pretty cheap - I owned it from probably 19 to 22 years old and didn't have a clean record at any point during my ownership, and even with all that going against me it was way lower than supersports and superbikes. I won't bother quoting numbers because they vary so much from person to person, but I'd be willing to wager that 650's (R or SV) are probably one of best balances of power/sportyness and insurance you'll find.

Definitely worth considering if you want something fun, affordable, and liveable. Won't keep up with supersports on a track with lots of room to wind it out (tight tracks and real-world road riding you wont care about the lack of top-end), but it also won't break the bank when you wad it up and it also won't break your ass when you ride a 500+ mile day.

  12. It's amazing how freeing it felt to ride some of those roads. There were several times I forgot I was paralyzed. Good times...definitely wanna do it again sometime.

Here's hoping you do get to do it again at least one time next year! It'd be great to ride with you again. I've been working my ass off to get back on two wheels by next season, and while nothing in the future is certain so far things are looking very good. I'll be taking it slow while I ease back into riding, so you'll have company at the back of the pack.

  13. I am looking forward to riding with you again. Congrats on the landing of the job. Did you end up staying in the area as well or did you move back north?

I'm working in the Easton corporate park and living on campus still - for the next 14 months or so, and I plan on staying in columbus after that. I'm hoping to pick up a bike in late winter and be ready to go by the first day of next riding season.

  14. Thanks for the good words Harb67. Coming from someone that broke their back on one of the rides means a lot.

My ineptitude doesn't change the fact that CSBA is a great group of folks and that the rides are always a blast :)

I just graduated a few weeks back and landed a full-time job, and I'm working a ton of overtime so I can pick up a 675 or something this winter - hopefully I'll be out with you guys next season!

  15. You should come check out our monthly rides. We do them on the 3rd Saturday of every month. There is a thread in the Ride and Events forum. Christian Sport Bike Association Ride July 16th.

:+15million: This is the best group you could possibly ride with - definitely go!

  16. I had Progressive when my 650r was still alive, and they were pretty good to me the whole time. The claim I had to make when I totaled it went extremely easily; the guy came out and looked over everything and I had a check printed within about 30 minutes for the value of my bike, my helmet, and every aftermarket part I had (I keep receipts meticulously). One thing I liked about them was the ability to drop/add coverage at will. I would drop a bunch of coverage options when the bike went away for winter and saved about 60$/month until spring.

I'm looking at picking up another bike this spring and I'll probably go with Rider insurance; I'm looking at a Daytona 675 and they seem to classify it differently than many other sportbikes. I'll be paying a bit less for the Daytona with Rider than I was for my 650r with Progressive. After reading this thread though I may check with State Farm as well, though I doubt they'll be any cheaper than Rider.

  17. I must be the only guy who was actually bummed to see the nice weather :p The warm, sunny few days we had were sort of like the universe going "haha, you don't have a bike anymore! You suck!" Every time I saw/heard a sportbike go by it was like a massive kick in the balls.

Now that it's cold again, all you bastards are unable to ride just like me :D

  18. get a scoobi and a trailer. i love my 06 hatch back. 30 plus mpg with awd.

This is more than likely what I'll do. I'll just rent a small U-Haul trailer for track days (15$ a day is bearable) until I move to a place where I have space to keep a trailer of my own. A pickup would be nice but having back seats with the Subaru is a big plus.

I'm not in a huge hurry to buy, so I'm just going to keep an eye out there for the perfect deal to come by. If I can find a fairly clean, well-running, manual, 2nd gen Legacy Outback with less than 150k miles for the right price I'm going to jump on it.

  19. Thanks a lot to everyone for all the suggestions. I had no idea I had this many options at a price well below what I was expecting to spend. I'm think I'll end up with a Subaru or a Ranger; it's just a matter of finding the right one at the right price at this point. I like the fact that the truck would allow me to haul the bike at any time, but I also like that a Subaru would have AWD and back seats. Insurance will probably be a deciding factor as well. Does anyone know if it would be cheaper to insure a truck or an AWD wagon?

    *edit*

Also, is it important to get a manual if I'm going to be towing a trailer? I've heard things about automatics overheating while towing. My personal preference is manual anyway, but just from the few quick searches I did it seems like there are a lot more automatics to choose from than manuals when it comes to Subaru wagons.
