  1. I am working on my nephews POS Virago 750 (money pit).

A couple of years back I bought a starter off of ebay, put it in the bike and confirmed that it worked. Bike sat for another couple of years and I am trying to get it running again.

Viragos have know starter issues (box-o-rocks) with gears meshing together and in troubleshooting I pulled the starter and found that 1 of the magnets on the inside of the case had come unglued and broken into pieces.

So, short of buying another ebay starter for this piece of shit, does anyone know of any elector motor repair shops that might be able to just fix this one? It has a total of probably 5 starts on it over the past 3 years. New one is $72.

    Thanks.

  2. Scott Curtis, 52 of Fredericktown (Sparta actually).

Scott Curtis, 52, was operating a 2003 Honda motorcycle (CBR 954) south on Ohio 314, and Parker Muntz, 25, of Columbus, was operating a 2007 Jeep Liberty north on Ohio 314, the patrol said.

Muntz failed to yield to the motorcycle when turning into a private driver, according to the patrol. Curtis struck the Jeep and was ejected from the motorcycle, the patrol said.

Curtis was transported to Knox Community Hospital where he died, according to the patrol. Curtis was wearing a helmet, the patrol said.

He was my first line of information for technical questions and always wore full gear, even for short little test rides. It sucks.

  3. I met a guy who asked me what I would charge to replace the fork seals on his 85 Goldwing.

I've done lots of fork seals on my own bikes, but never done them "for hire" as a paying job.

Seal kit itself runs about $20, but what is the going labor cost for replacing them?

The Goldwing might be a PITA because of the fairings too, anybody have experience with those?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. 12/31/14 UPDATE - I just took it for a ride down the road and can confirm that all gears / clutch / brakes work as expected.

1/2/15: Turn signals all functional. Glued together, but working and legal. Brake fluid flushed & bled.

1/7/15: Pulling it for lack of interest. Going to buy parts to make it pretty, pack it away in the barn and try again in the spring.

  5. Update:  1/7/15: Pulling it for lack of interest. Starting to buy parts to make it pretty, Will pack it away in the corner or the barn and try again in the spring.

I have a 2002 Vulcan 750 that I was planning on flipping. There are just too many other projects going on now and I figured I'd throw it there if someone else wants to tinker with it.

History: Dude said it started spraying oil and he was told it was a head gasket. Bike sat outside for 9 months after that.

I buy bike, change oil. Over 2 gallons drain out of oil/gas mix. Explains why it was leaking oil.

No water in oil and no bubbles in radiator when running. I'm confident head gasket is fine.

    I pull carbs, clean & reinstall (a royal pain on a v-twin!)

Bike start & runs fine with a jump (battery dead).

Left turn signal doesn't work, That is the only thing that needs to be done to make it rideable,

It does have new tires front & back. It also has K&N filters and Iridium plugs.

I have not ridden the bike at all. it does have a salvage title & true mileage is unknown (according to title).

Paint job sucks. seat cover torn at bottom, sissy bar is a DIY job and turn signals need some attention.

  6. I had success with this just today.

I have had an 85 Yamaha IT200 for probably 12 years. Went to the local title office (Mt. Gilead) with a picture of the VIN. I had to sign an affidavit and since the bike had never been titled, they issued me one on the spot. Note that I have tried this in Delaware county and they told me "no chance". At least now I have to option to ride at Wayne and eventually sell it and have a title.

The value of the bike is only about $400 so it isn't a big deal, but I feel better having one.

  7. Late 1940s I would say because of the headlight. Early 1950s was not just a bucket but kind of streamlined affair.

Now that I know what to look for, I can see that. Pre-war bike seem to all have springer style front ends. 1945 on look to have tube shocks.

The only weird things I am finding now are with the handlebars. Most bikes I am seeing (on Google of course) have more of a "drag bar" style where Dad's seem to be turned back.

This one is really close. http://www.classic-auctions.com/Auctions/19-04-2012-TheImperialWarMuseum-1316/1945Triumph5TSpeedTwin-34432.aspx

  8. I thought that "encapsulation" was the latest thing in crawlspaces. I have a rental that I completely rebuilt over the summer and sealed up the crawlspace vents. The plan is to insulate the perimeter of the inside with 2" foamboard insulation and then put a liner and seal the whole thing up. I'll get to it in the next month or so. This place was recommended by a local homebuilder http://www.crawlspacevaporbarrier.net/Basically it looks like a swimming pool liner.

The ductwork in the crawlspace actually has 2 vents that should keep it above freezing. Of course, it is 15 freaking below zero at the moment so I wouldn't be shocked to get a phone call any time saying something is frozen.

  9. I have a plain jane Rock Island 45 that I would trade up to the RIA tactical if interested. I also work here in Delaware.

No clue on a round count as I traded for it a while back and have never shot it.

PM me if you want to come give it a look.

  10. I'm thinking of a dark charcoal gray or black. No rush on getting it done, but within the next month or so would be nice.

This was my original goal of what I wanted it to look like (photoshopped):

    goal.jpg

Depending on cost, I would still love to have that done.

  11. I have an 87 Concours that needs to have everything painted. Plastics, tank, fenders. I was going to do it myself, but I just bought a rental house and every nice day of the summer is going to be spent working on the house. I don't want it to sit in the basement for another year.

Plastics have all been repaired if needed and mostly sanded smooth. Some still have a crappy spray can paint job on them from when I bought it.

It doesn't need to be show quality as it is an old bike, but I don't want it to suck either. Everything has already been removed and will be delivered as pieces.

Anyone interested or have suggestions? Cols to Mansfield area please.

Here is what an old Concours looks like for you young folks:

  12. *** Bought a 2001 250ex for $1200***

I'm looking for a quad for the kid (14). I'm sort of becoming a Honda bigot, but will consider anything if the price is right.

    250-400cc

4 stroke preferred but not required.

    Not beat to shit.

Needing some work is fine too, as long as the price reflects it.

Central OH and MUST have a title. "Bill of sale" = "most likely stolen"

  13. I have 2 rental houses so far and it has been a pretty good experience so far (2+ years). Both renters seem pretty stable and don't seem like they are going to be going anywhere soon. One consistently pays rent late, but with the added $10/day late fee, I am okay with it.

Both have pets & kids. Go with your gut on the interview process. You will get probably get enough that you can be picky on who to choose. It is MUCH better to let it sit empty for a month rather than trying to hurry and fill it with somebody that you will regret.

I can shoot you a copy of our lease agreement if you want to give it a look.
