  1. There is plenty I stand for. Reason, logic, family, friends. There is way too much shit going on in the world for me to get all emo about all of it. Does that make me heartless? Maybe... And are we really resorting to thinly veiled threats at this point? If someone took a swing at me, they'd be charged with assault and slapped with a lawsuit. I have nothing to prove by fighting anyone.
  2. Oversensitive much? This whole discussion has taken place on a motorcycle forum. Not a memorial for war veterans, not an obituary, not a funeral home. Get over it. If he was a friend of yours, or your brother, or your uncle, or your aunt's step son twice removed, I could see the error. But he wasn't, he was just a public figure, he was a big boy, took his own risks, lived his own life. please continue with the "righteous indignation"
  3. because this is a public forum, and I'm free to express my opinions publicly. I think you're mistaking ORDN with a funeral home, those people were mourning, those people were affected.
  4. Both are hazardous behaviors. Was he a psychologist? How about a psychiatrist? So he handed a diagnosed ptsd patient a loaded gun based on what?
  5. Actually, it would be along the lines of dying doing something he loved and believed in. It's not the way I've chosen to live my life. If I wrap my bike around a telephone pole this spring, i'd expect him to be fine with it, I understood the risks, and chose to live my life in that fashion. Same goes for my parents if they get emphysema or lung cancer, these are risks they took on willingly.
  6. My view of guns are similar to my view on religion, i'd rather they be voluntarily abandoned than banned. I support the second amendment, I just don't personally like (or need) any guns. But my point was that you can't just point to chicago and say "see, gun bans don't work" any more than you can point to an airplane and say "see, gravity is bullshit"
  7. All laws remove individual liberty, at least for some. I don't ever think I said "deserved". My cousin is a special case, I don't particularly like broadway musicals, but I'd go to one to support a family member's debut on opening night if they invited me. Different situations, different stakes, different circumstances...
  8. You didn't go through a body scanner? Your luggage wasn't x-rayed?
  9. I didn't want to continue jacking that thread, new topic, new thread. Yes, because rapist is a "default state" :eyeroll: Different topics, different stakes, different variables, different scope, any reasonable person might develop different views based on that information.
  10. Never been through customs? Your property is searched when entering or leaving the country. Doesn't happen when entering or leaving chicago. I don't know if you are good or honest, I've only interacted with you in a very limited scope. My point was that honesty or goodness are completely optional when purchasing a gun.
  11. Because they aren't just readily available to the honest people, they are readily available to anyone with $800 and a friend/girlfriend with a clean criminal record... You can't carry a "death penalty" across state/local lines and use it in an area where it's illegal. Yes, guns are illegal in chicago, but they are prevalent and cheap in the suburbs of Lyons and Riverdale, and easily transported wherever there is a demand for them. No customs search for weapons when entering the city...
  12. Viffer ftw, I was on the fence between vfr and XX when I got mine. I love the XX, and the power is intoxicating, but i'd have been quite happy with the Vfr as well.
  13. As a former advocate for the death penalty, I see a lot of my former reasoning in many of your arguments. "If they know that capital punishment is on the table, they will be less likely to kill someone" Death isn't a deterrent, people who commit murder aren't concerned with the consequences. There is very little correlation between murder rates in states with the death penalty vs states without... But you say "even if it helps a little, that's good, right?" Well as it turns out the correlation seems to be inverse, meaning that states without capital punishment enjoy lower murder rates. You might say "I don't want to pay for murderers to live" well... it also costs more to execute someone than to imprison them for life.
  14. Not surprising, what does he have to lose at this point? The verdict was in, the sentence was obvious. The only power he had left was to affect your feelings... Kinda sad really, but apparently it worked.... Had he apologized or been remorseful, would that have changed anything? He'll spend the rest of his life in a cage, and that was happening regardless of his remarks.
  15. My buddy Andrew has jb on his RAZR, and it says they are incompatible on his... http://foxfi.com/help/devices.php
  16. The first time I read this, I thought it was a real story... was thinking "why not tie the rope to the truck first, instead of yourself? Then once you rope the deer, you could just drive slowly to your destination"
  17. I still have foxfi 1.95.3 on ICS but when I go to jelly bean it won't work
  18. that's how I roll... includes RODO, ORDN, and DTC. (though I will typically ride further out of my way to join a DTC ride than any of the others)
  19. Ditto... Pauly will take care of you, but if Ravenna is too far, I've also had good experience with just for fun Honda in middlefield... I also think North ridge Yamaha Suzuki does tires, they would probably be the closest...but I'm not sure if they do or not.
  20. Seriously? You know what I'm talking about... the guys who wear leather vests with titles on the front like "lead tit squeezer" and "bubba" then they have their group patches plastered all over the back with funny little sayings stitched on them. My point is simple, it's a lot of beauracracy and bullshit to be accepted by a group. If you like to ride with some people, ride with them. Why all the pseudo class structure? I have plenty of people I enjoy riding with, and when i'm in the mood to ride I might call them. It just reminds me of little children playing "house". And yes, I too get very annoyed by the bikers riding in formation blocking the normal flow of traffic, not so much on my bike though, because I can usually either squeeze through, or hit the shoulder while giving them the finger as I pass.
  21. you can untwist your panties, too... some people here do belong to multiple MC clubs...
  22. That second one actually looks hilarious, i'd join it just as a gag... who doesn't want to ride a mini around the sidewalks in conneaut?
  23. Dude, you have 10 posts... untwist your panties... Some people here do take pot shots at "biker gangs"... not all of us. In fact, some people here belong to a mc club, or 2 or 3. But it sounds like you agree with most of what is said about them, and you found one of the rare clubs that is an exception to the rule. Personally I'd never join a riding club that had all of that bullshit structure because I just find it utterly stupid. On the rare occasion that I ride as a part of a group, we decide who leads the ride, and the order of the group based on who knows the roads and the route best, and the skill of the riders in the group, not based on what patch you happen to wear.
