  1. Wow, you must have been raised by some imaginary lazy asses if this is your imaginary viewpoint... or you just have low aspirations. If 11.50 an hour is all you've ever dreamed of, and makes all your wishes come true, then yes, why try to do any better? Take pride in your burger flipping and enjoy your life as such. Personally, I have higher aspirations. It doesn't matter if minimum wage was $20 an hour, I'm still pursuing the career I've chosen, and doing the best damn job I can at it. It's not just about the money, money is just the currency I need to pay for things. If I had no need for any more money, I'd still be doing what I do... just on my own time and on projects I chose.
  2. You can absolutlely be proud of your heterosexuality, shout it from the rooftops... but maybe don't equate homosexuality to beastiality, or homosexuals to terrorists... ESPECIALLY in a magazine like GQ... I mean seriously... what population of males care the most about "fashion"? Enough to buy a fashion magazine?
  3. I guess we'll see... I personally never watched the show, If i wanted to watch a bunch of rednecks screw around for an hour, I'd go visit my old high school in andover.
  4. He's free from prosecution for what he says, but he's not immune to public backlash. If you say something that makes you unpopular and you're making a chunk of your income from advertising, advertisers are going to stop paying you to endorse their product.
  5. You mean he's a "dick" for equating homosexuals to terrorists?
  6. You have a point. These laws have an under 19 exception in some cases... But like it or not we as a society have established that 40 hours constitutes a standard work week... One of the side effects I actually like is what pauly mentioned. This would make "work" a lot more appealing vs welfare...and give the people who can work more incentive to do so.
  7. not the way I took it... to make the law easier to enforce, they won't be bothering with a decibel meter, if your bike is noisy, they will check to see if you have a muffler... if so, you're good, no muffler, ticket... Then we can argue about what qualifies as a muffler...
  8. That's a management problem, not a fair wage problem...
  9. yeah, who needs heat? or health insurance? or food?
  10. Why would you ride a motorcycle without a muffler? Especially around a city?
  11. They will get at least 11.50... or a pink slip. They aren't necessarily worth more than minimum wage, they are worth 11.00 according to capitolistic purists... they were worth more than 7.25, but aren't necessarily worth more than "minimum wage"... If they don't supply more than 11.00 an hour in value addition to the company then they will probably be let go... the problem is that many people are not making an equivalent salary to the value they bring to a company, some people are overpaid, many many more are underpaid. this is how "profit" is generated.
  12. Marginally, but it's not a 1-1 inflationary effect I.E. Minimum wage goes up 10%, everything costs 10% more. The math works out to a few pennies on the dollar based on the information I've seen... your cheeseburger won't suddenly cost double... what will happen is that some working people will suddenly have some disposable income, and will no longer have a need for public assistance. this would increase consumer spending, thereby boosting the economy and chiseling away at public assistance spending. Win-Win.
  13. What skills to minimum wage workers posses that warrant ANY pay? My opinion: If a person works 40 hours a week in good faith at any job, they should earn enough money to be above the poverty line for their area (even if only slightly above). If an employer feels your contribution is warranted for full time, they should pay you a living wage for your time. if an employer doesn't want to pay you a living wage, then they should do your job themselves or just not have that job done anymore.
  14. Interesting to see How this will affect prices, local economy, and the service industry in general... but we will have to wait a little while. http://fox8.com/2013/12/17/11-50-minimum-wage-coming-in-one-maryland-county/ http://www.upi.com/blog/2013/12/17/1150-minimum-wage-passed-by-DC-city-council/4181387316321/
  15. most people on this boycott bandwagon are anti toyota/honda because the "profits" go to japan.
  16. horrible year, but i was unemployed for almost half of it, and didn't have money for tires or fuel either half... Next year will be much better.
  17. yeah, i shorted some stuff (ggb and liox) that went up, trying to earn my "bear" trophy... but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
  18. When i bash religion, I typically use the texts themselves...
  19. Not 1 blown up bridge... one attempted blown up bridge... to be clear... and nobody is saying any of that is okay... that's the difference... TP cheers on their assholes, OWS condemns theirs...
  20. well, not advertised as such, there are members of the tea party who have raped and murdered and rioted... just those murderers and rapists don't get their poltical views tied into their motives on news reports. Not to mention, the large majority of OWS condemns those actions... along with the democratic party as a whole. When the tea party shuts down the government, the tea parties cheer or suggest it isn't enough, republicans applauded in fear of their seats, spun the coverage to call it a slimdown, or a breath of fresh air... OWS was bad at publicity, the tea party is bad at governing.
