That was my first impression as well. The headlights don't help it much either. graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

When will they nuke those clown hood scoops? Subaru has just seemed absolutely in love with those homely hood warts for the past 5 years for god knows why. I know they're functional, but I also *know* they don't have to be shaped in that ugly ass geometry.

Change the hood scope Suuub!

Front end reminds me of a Alfa Romeo... kinda cool.

They wont change the scoope unless they go to a SMIC or FMIC. The top mounts arent all that big IMO so they need that scoope to keep the cool air on it.

If the front ends are anything similar to the older WRX's, in order to go to the FMIC, they have to change the front bumper supports a bit. Theres a 1" or 1.5" piece of angle steel in the way that is right in front of the bottom of the radiator preventing any kind of room for one.

I personaly like the scoop. Its one of few pieces of "excessive" body work that actully follows function. As long as form follows fucntion, chances are, car enthusiasts will like it.

They should go to a FMIC like the EVO has. Removes that ugly scoop, and better heat dissapation since the intercooler isnt constantly being heat soaked by the motor.

The hood scoop for the top-mount has been around a for about 15 years actually. I don't think it's going anywhere. It has grown a case of the ugly lately though.

They will have to restyle the car soon after this is released. They just had their best sales year ever, and when their sales drop like a rock, they will have that grill fixed quick.

This is probably a one year fluke. We can only hope.

i think the hood scoop is awesome. the current model wrx has it pretty much pegged, i think. the sti scoop is a bit big.

the impreza has always been one of those cars that you either thought was the ugliest thing around, or you loved it. there have always been unique styling touches on that car. hood scoop, bugeye headlights, boy racer wing, you name it. taste is subjective, and i love my car. thats why no one should really count it for much if i say your car is ugly.

why top mount? well, it makes crash test standards a lot easier to obtain if a 5 mile an hour fender bender doesnt force you to replace your 1000 dollar fmic. so, the insurance companies love it. also, if anyone here has ever seen a boxer motor before, then they know exactly why. the plumbing required for a front mount is extensive, and the top mount sit about 3 inches from the intake manifold. lot easier to keep your pressure up when you have less pipe to travel through. factor in the length of the exhaust manifold, and with a fmic, youd have all of your gasses moving through quite a bit of pipe just to run the car.

for big hp, fmic is still boss, but on the wrx, it wont help you a whole lot until you get up to at least 400 at the crank or so.
