mrblunt
So the trails = testament of what makes a car fast. It’s all good and we are off topic. I like to play devils advocate sometimes. I love you all.
Guest mudbutt
the topic went off topic when we started turning this into import vs. domestic and fastest cars in columbus.
nurkvinny
"A majority of really fast cars in columbus are powered by 4 or 6 cylinders." Maybe the majority of cars seen in High School parking lots and avoiding speed bumps in an empty department store parking lots on the weekends. 'Some'? Ok. 'A few'? Alright. Majority? Tough to believe.

Even if he doesn't buy an Integra, Mustang, or DSM down the road. Maybe that saved money is used for a house, school, emergency, etc. Most people in that thread never said not to get an import, or don't go with FWD. You were reading in to things too much. Most were against his current car I think, because automatic Hondas suck ass. And he wanted to go from a Civic to a CRX...? Not much difference there! A little bit of weight savings, different style and such. That would be like me selling/trading my car in for an LS1 Trans Am, no point really. Heck, I did what I suggested. I had an Escort, and saved up money for a better car, instead of doing stupid little crap to the Escort to make it faster. It never crossed my mind, I knew the car I had was slow and that was that. Of course that was way before TF&TF. Bottom line, he asked us what we thought, and we responded. Nothing wrong with that, or our answers. To each their own is right. Most anyone into cars will prefer rwd for any type of serious competition. But few people here are "serious" competitors. Every car has its advantages and disadvantages and for a true daily driven street car a fwd vehicle can make a fun compromise. You don't have to be a "serious" competitor as you put it in order to run into the wall of FWD performance, and benefit from RWD or AWD. The threshold isn't nearly that high. Don't kid yourself that the FWD layout's performance ceiling is high enough or that close to RWD or AWD for it not to matter. Even just in "spirited daily driving". Example: My wife's 03 Saab 93 Sport Sedan with the performance suspension package is a very well laid out FWD car that I'll put into the twisties up against 99% of the mod'd and slam'd econo's I see out there on the streets. Yet it still plows like a pig in turns that I take daily in the Cobra without issue - with groceries in the trunk. The limit ain't that high. Don't know why you're trying to build some "its a viable alternative" arguement, friend, but I'm not buying. FWD is the poorest choice of the three, period. If its all you can find, fine. But rationalizing is called rationalizing for a reason. And this smacks of rationalizing. BUT, there's always a but... But: FWD is a good layout for grandmothers, teeny-bopper girls, unattentive drivers, and generally people who can't control a car's rotation. And for the very same reason they don't go fast enough for people who can: they understeer. There's something to be said for that, I suppose. So if you're a poor driver but wanna drive faster than you should, sure buy FWD, you won't wreck it as fast as you would otherwise.

99ta
I would love to drive a RWD v8, however, I don't see many of those that "conviently" carry a baby seat in the back or drive down to bainbrige in the dead of winter. Hell, my brothers mach1 won't even make it out of the driveway when theres snow. I am all about performance cars, but until I can afford a performance car that I can drive for pleasure only, my grocery getting GTP that could break in to 13s will do just fine. and as for people having diferent taste in cars. This is a car enthusiast community not a rwd v8 only. I think if you drive a civic and think its fast, great! Go race other civics, don't be a ricer and think you can be a v8. Basically, if you like your car thats great but know its limitations. I have seen many civics that look sweet, but I would never own one. Thats my opinion. and I am not going to critisize people for there taste in cars.

If you fail to acknowledge that anything but a v8 is fast thats up to you. I'm not turning this into a domestic vs import thing b/c thats pretty old and tired. Nor did I mention my next project will most likely be an ls1 powa'd ta. It just amazes me how biased the v8 community can be sometimes to anything with smaller displacement. I've already stated what i thought was needed for my idea of a true sports car. [ 19. Guest Ranger_Man
why is it that you people use the term "sports car" and only talk about quarter mile times? i for one would not mod a honda ever. its too good of a daily driver to mess it up. Devils Advocate
My point, Joel and Integra kid, is that a fairly mild discussion about which form of drivetrain is the best was interrupted by some guy with a hongda saying "0mFg guyz, Stop bashing Importz, they are *** win!!" and an added jab at something like "well, a ford vs chevy debate wouldv'e been closed" (which it wouldn't have). Why close a thread where nothing offensive has taken place? If you want imports protected, go join Mekkahfire's forum where the word "ricer" is censored.
