ancientmysts
I was looking around online and found this phone service provider called Vonage. I've heard of them before, and looked into their website. Looks interesting and wondering if anyone uses this? Or has anyone heard anything, good/bad, about it? ancientmysts
Well I know the commercials are cool. I'm actually interested in getting it and was hoping someone else had it, or knew something about it.
Guest GSRchick714
I think its a good idea and Vonage is really cheap. I don't know anyone who's had it but I had voice over IP at my old work and the only thing that sucked sometimes was that it sounded kinda echo-ish. Other than that it sounds good! Ok, so you've used VoIP, do you know how well it works, other than the echo? I mean, like if you get a small lag, large lag, does it affect being able to hear or be heard? Akula
If you want to do some comparison shopping, check out www.broadvoice.com. These VOIP phone services are really bandwidth dependent and latency sensitive. Your experience will probably be different than mine as you are in a different place and probably with a different ISP. You have to try it out.

The echo can get annoying but its only sometimes. And nobody ever complained about not being able to hear me so I guess thats a good sign. Guest GSRchick714
Yea, when we move into our house next week it will be only cell phones. I don't think I'd ever use the house phone.
morabu
i was also considering gettin VoIP, but if you search the web a litle bit you will find out that this is very poorly regulated and not very secure! phone conversations can be very easily recorded by a decent hacker so take your chances, i'll wait till it's more proven

It's supposed to be free over the nation. I actually went ahead and got it. I like it, works pretty well, and goodbye to my longdistance bill!!! That's really great for me since most of my friends and family live in Columbus/Cinci and such, and I live in Marion.

There's no longdistance, it's all free/local, in the US and Canada, so I was just wondering why only local.
Jackson1647545504
As I have heard the VOIP stuff does not integrate (well) with 911.

You CAN'T dial a local 911 number. You can connect to something similar and they will contact 911. Of you could dial your local police and connect that way. Personally, I have a cell phone around the house, so I could alway call from there. Plus, being able to see the hospital from your front porch is always a good thing.
