desperado Posted October 5, 2005 Report Share Posted October 5, 2005 I was listeing tot he scanner the other day and there is a crackdown over on the North side primarily but they will be pushing hard everywhere in Franklin County. There have been more fatal auto accidents so far this year thatn all of last year and they are trying to curb the number. So watch what you do and where you do it. And scanners can be interesting to listen to, but DO NOT take them along in your car. They are illegal to have in a vehicle unless you are law enforcement, a firefighter, an amature radio operator or have some other specific reason for having it, like you are on a search and rescue team. desperado Posted October 5, 2005 Author Report Share Posted October 5, 2005 Been like that for awhile, the only reason that amature radio guys are exempt is that their radios will already receive police channels, so it's pretty much pointless to tell us no scanners. (A) No person shall knowingly manufacture, possess, deliver, offer to deliver, or advertise a counterfeit telecommunications device with purpose to use it criminally. (B) No person shall knowingly manufacture, possess, deliver, offer to deliver, or advertise a counterfeit telecommunications device with purpose to use that device or to allow that device to be used, or knowing or having reason to know that another person may use that device, to do any of the following: (1) Obtain or attempt to obtain telecommunications service or information service with purpose to avoid a lawful charge for that service or aid or cause another person to obtain or attempt to obtain telecommunications service or information service with purpose to avoid a lawful charge for that service; (2) Conceal the existence, place of origin, or destination of a telecommunications service or information service. © Whoever violates this section is guilty of unlawful use of a telecommunications device, a felony of the fifth degree. (D) This section does not prohibit or restrict a person who holds an amateur service license issued by the federal communications commission from possessing a radio receiver or transceiver that is intended primarily or exclusively for use in the amateur radio service and is used for lawful purposes. (E) This section does not preclude a person from disputing charges imposed for telecommunications service or information service by the provider of that service.
