i race dirt bikes(cr125) and four wheelers(400ex-modded)...mostly hairscrambles and fair races. Stunted motorcycles for acouple of years(looking for another bike to start up again).did supermotard on my crf-50 at circleville. Raced around town on bikes and cars till i lost my liscense(which i wont see again till july'08). Bought V8KILR's race cart, gonna put a bigger motor on it and auto-x it as well as race it down at circleville. I drift the fuck out of my F-250 anytime there is ran or snow on the ground.

I prefer street cars ( not street racing, although I've made a run here or there all over columbus)

its fun to have a track car, but I'd rather put my money in something that makes my commute exciting :) and if it suffers a little at one kind of event or another becuase its built to run over the road thats ok with me...

don't worry Ron I'll still help you put that mustang back together in time for the season to start ;)

I've been to Milan, MCIR, and US 131.

131 bites best, and you can easily get 10-12 or more passes, but it's 3 1/2 hours from Lima.

Milan bites decent, and it's not hard to get 10 or so runs in. It's about 2-2 1/4 hours away.

MCIR...well, most people here have likely run it. It's the closest track to me, 1 1/4 hrs away, but traction is fleeting and the lanes are not too smooth. The left lane has a 'rut' where a stripe was ground off or something; hitting that in the GTP is torque-steer city. When it does bite, it bites hard; I ran my GTP's best there.

Also, they run bikes, quads, and Juniors on Fridays, so runs are few, usually 6 or 8.

The Tempo's first track outing might be there, though, because it's close. Might be willing to try a Columbus-area track. Any suggestions?

I have been to Trails, Pacemakers, Norwalk, Indy, Virginia, Edgewater, and Magnolia. I would say besides The Norwalk ecperience i would say Pacemakers is next on the list for the friendly enviromnent and sticky track.

I've been to Trails to watch a few races, but haven't competed since I don't really have a race car. I'm into 4x4 trail riding and have been since around 1999. I've been on this board since probably 1997 or so and would definately race and like talking/learning about it and hanging out in some of the guys garages on here. Maybe someday I'll get bitten by that particular bug, but not yet.

Started autocrossing Camaros & then Firebirds in '77

Crewed for IMSA GTU Porsches late 70's-early 80's

Still autocrossed - Formula Ford, then a F2 Brabham w/ a V6 swap

Crewed for Playboy/Escort Showroom Stock endurance series in the 80's (300ZX)Crewed and drove at The Longest Day of Nelson after the SS series died out (Fiat X1/9, Datsun 240Z, Nissan 300ZX, VW Golf)

Crewed for a few Pro Rally events (Audi 4000 quattro)

Road raced for a few more years on and off (ITB Mustang)

Now, full circle, back to autocross, and trying to bring a few younger drivers along!

quite impressive! Sounds like you've had some serious fun out there.

I do HPDEs as I don't quite have the pockets to race wheel to wheel at this point in life. I also do track days with my bike (road course) and have done so for about 7 years now. I've been going to watch road racing since before I can remember, so it's just what I like to do.

I don't really drag race, but have nothing against it. It's just not really my bag. I'll go up to PaceMaker every now and then to watch my friends run at a test and tune.

I'm not much of a street racer, other than the random impromptu run-in, which are always fun. Plus, my car isn't very quick in a straight line, but suprises quite a few in the twisties (clover-leaf races anyone?)

Looks like a bunch of us want to do some closed course driving... ANYBODY can with just your daily driver.

Start to do the research at www.nasaproracing.com

There are four or five road courses within a four hour drive of Columbus. Each have different programs but NASA is where you should start.

If you want to do some track time, or run Time Trials in your daily driver look on the left column of their home page and read "HPDE/Open Track".

If you want to get more serious and do a racer, go through the "NASA Forums" in the right column. I'll be running a Mustang in "American Iron" but there are plenty of other classes listed there.

They have a STOCK class (racing door to door) called CMC (Camaro / Mustang Challenge) that you could run with very little investment... actually only safety gear, extra pads and tires. This is a GREAT way for a couple guys to get together and go racing. Later, the same car could easily (built motor & suspension) move the the American Iron racing class.

At the bottom of the "NASA Forums" is a For Sale section.

First school and HPDE in '07 is late April at Mid Ohio. I plan to be there.

Ron

Cool stuff, I've actually been looking for a way to get into NASA with a VERY limited (college student) budget. I've been doing the Mid-Ohio School for a few years, so I'm by far a rookie, but I've run pretty decent times against NASA racers in the school cars.

EDIT: By the way, everyone on Columbusracing.com is a licensed and sponsored benchracer.

Have been doing Road Racing with the SCCA in a Forumla Vee for a little over 6 years. Have a couple of regional championships. We race at Mid-Ohio, Nelson Ledgers, IRP, and Grattan. May try to make it to Beaver Run this year since I hear it is a fun track. Looking forward to this year since I had to take off the last couple of years for work reasons. FV would be a good option for anyone looking for an inexpensive way to race. A completive car can be had for less than 6K. With a 2k budget you can run 6-8 races a year. If you want to win expect to spend more since you will need to purchase new tires for every 2-4 races.

Also have done some Drag racing with the EVO at Norwalk and Trails.

I've been racing since 2001. I started with autocrossing and switched to drag/autoX. I've not been out to autocross since my mustang failure (I tried to build it to autocross threw it out of class and it was worthless). I plan to take my wrx out this year and autocross.

Who better to ask than the owner of CR himself? This is an expert from an earlier PM where I asked him just that question.

So you dont care that rear RACERS are detracted from being on Columbus RACING due to the antics of those who you choose to be moderators (his brother) of Columbus RACING? Odd, but its your forum.

My brother is an Admin, and it will stay like that. The fact that people don't like him serves a purpose, that's my point.

I don't care if people come to CR for racing or not, it's an automotive community which benefits people as a whole.

CR is not out to be the "premiere" racing site. It's here for car people. I shouldn't have had to explain this to you again.

There you have it.
