i posted this on ohioriders too, but figured id repost it here for the hell of it ;)

the paint was shite on my bike. the tank was blue with a pink stripe (lol), the side covers were white, the rear end was spraybombed black, the front fairing and front fender are a dark british racing green :? my buddy would have called it a "crayola" bike lol.

anyway, i used this duplicolor truck bedliner spray... like 6 bux at wally world... turned out pretty good, and its pretty resistant to scratches and stuff like that. i gave it a few extra coats in the areas where it gets scratched most: where my keys dangle onto the tank, and at the back where my zipper, belt buckle, etc hit it.

im trying to emulate the ZX6R chin pit with that dent on there ;)

i took off the upper cowling, fairing stay, headlight and gauges. all of that weighs about 20 pounds, with 15 of it being the gauges/stay/headlight assembly. front end is way lighter now. i like it :) although no more wind protection, but i live in german village, so most of my riding is in downtown and campus areas, so i dont really care.

then i installed a headlight off of a buell. the cheapest dual headlights i could find online were like 150. and they had to be shipped from germany  i got this whole assembly from buell for like 70 bucks.

i mounted it with these brackets i got at iron pony. they were 10 dollars in the harley section. i sprayed them with the bedliner too, although it doesnt seem to adhere well to chrome. its kind of peeling off in one spot. i may take em off and scuff them a bit then hit em again...

the buell lights have screw holes on the bottom (actually its the top. i mounted it upside down :) )

i had some nuts and bolts lying around and found some that would fit... albeit they are a bit long. maybe ill splurge and go to lowes and spend 97 cents for some shorter ones :)

i need to get some turn signals, and ill probably mount those in the front holes, and then try to tuck the wires away.

since my mirrors were gone, i got this CRG mirror. very high quality part. the mirror is very clear, and the box says it will stay put to 130 lol. i dont really plan on testing that out, but ive ridden around a bit with it, and it hasnt moved at all. it doesnt even vibrate.

i got this gauge to put on still. im trying to find a stock wiring harness for the gauges, so i dont have to cut my harness and i can just plug it in. this thing is pretty cool too... it tells you everything except the winning lottery numbers (gotta see what i can do about that). speed, rpm, time, odometer, trip odometer, neutral light, hi beam indicator, turn signals, oil light.

the only thing it DOESNT have it a temp gauge... i may just go get a small autometer one and mount that...

im gonna get some new bars still, cant decide if i want to get motox bars, or clip ons. i still gotta do something about the green fender, and get some turn signals for the front and mount that gauge. also im gonna figure something out about that rear fender... other than that though, im happy, and the bike runs like a top. i went -2 on the front and its got a TON of low end grunt... probably tops out at about 100 now but w/e thats still fast enough to send me to the pokey.

thats it!

yeah definitely that thing is coming off... i was looking at the kits at the pony last week when i was there... they didnt have one for my bike, they were all for r6 or zx#r or something... although now that i see how they are made, i think i could fabricate something similar out of an old license plate or something :)

digging the street fighter 500. Definately doing the best with what you got John.

Really like the mirror and would like to hear your impressions on it when you get some ride time in with it. ALSO, I want to know more about that gauge you got. What sort of wiring is required for it to make it work? Any shots of it lit up yet? That could be really handy for the super-moto project I've always wanted to do.

thanks for the comments guys :)

smokey, ive ridden around town a bit with the mirror, and so far, its doing great. like i said, the box says it will stay put at speeds in excess of 120 mph or something like that. it will move if you want to readjust it, but other than that it sticks in place perfectly. it doesnt vibrate or anything. the mirror is glass (rather than plastic) and very clear too, its also got kind of a fish eye thing going on, but not too much, so you can see more of an area behind you.

its reversable too, so you can switch it out for left and right sides. they make one with a hinge that you can fold in, but its like 20 dollars more, so i opted for this one lol.

as for the gauge, go to www.electrosport.com thats where i got it from. you have to call them to order. it took about a week to get here. they have a whole bunch of different gauges. they have a multitude of speedo drives, so you can just plug it into the stock location if you want. i opted for the magnetic pick up... similar to like a bicycle speedometer or something... i figure thats probably a bit more accurate that the cable driven one?

as for the installation, its comes with a wiring harness, and a diagram. basically, all you have to do is match up your wires to its wires (i.e. turn signal to turn signal, neutral light to neutral light etc.) for the tach, you hook it onto one of the coils.

it worked out to be like 120 out the door, which i didnt think was too bad considering all the stuff that it does. i could have gotten a universal speedo from JC whitney for like 50, but it didnt have tach, trip odometer, lights etc... i found out later though, if you mention the "customfighters.com group buy" when you order it, you can get it for around 90 bucks.

it was smaller than i expected it to be though... its maybe only 3 inches in diameter.

i personally dont have any shots of it lit up but i found this one here:

also, another note on the wiring, i havent installed it yet, because i kinda dont want to cut into my wiring harnesses. ill probably end up putting my gauges on ebay, and dont really wanna do that with a cut harness lol.

but i got another harness coming in the mail shortly, from a guy with an EX500 race bike, who has gotten rid of all unnecessary crap for racing. im just going to cut that harness, attach the wires, and then hopefully just be able to plug it in.
