Olevia 65" LCD, Any good?

DLP is by far the best you can buy and you get the most for your $$$ ("it's the mirrors").

I will never buy a DLP for the sole reason that I want that stupid little girl in those commercials to be out of work. Mirrors are for shaving, crystals are for TV watching ;)

I break it down like this: Plasmas are better for movie watching (higher contrast), but consume a lot more energy, weigh a lot more (harder to hang on a wall), and have less resolution for the $. The huge Olevia at Sam's is only 720p if i recall, which is OK if you're going to be 20' away at all times but when you get up close its cheapness will reveal itself. They also have a tendency to deplete certain colors over time (like green) and will eventually wear out, the cheaper ones MUCH faster.

I'll have to pass on the Olevia then. I certainly don't want to upgrade my TV again 2 years from now like I am now. I found the Sharp 65 for $6999 at Circuit City compared to $9999 at Best buy, looks like same TV too. I guess 7k isn't bad. Plus if memory serves me correctly, you can negotiate at Circuit City, where you can't at Best Buy.

If you are finishing the basement, wall mount a mitishu 73" dlp http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Mitsubishi-73-DLP-Rear-Projection-HDTV-WD-73734/sem/rpsm/oid/186038/catOid/-12867/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do . My dad has the 63" and it looks amazing and has had it for a year now.

There's a certain point where it probably makes more sense just to get a projector and screen. Not sure, but 73" might just be that point.

Best Buy price matches. And if you use their rewards system you will get some cash back too.

oh and service plans are rip offs don't waste your money.

It depends, on a dlp or plasma I'd get the warranty. The bulbs in a dlp are expensive, let alone any other repairs. Plasma's lose color over time and basically need recharged after a few years. I'd never buy a plasma, the cheaper ones do fade much much quicker.

Why get one from CC or BB why not go online like http://www.jr.com http://www.onecall.com or http://www.vanns.com Those are all cheaper usually even paying for shipping and you can still get a service plan from them as well. Might be worth a shot though I don't think I would spend 7K on a LCD when I move into my house I'm getting a DLP for my living room probably around a 60" and I'll put my 40" Samsung LCD currently in my living room in my bedroom.

For reference pay $7000 for a 65" LCD or a 61" DLP which is $1800 shipped!

Same TV different site a little cheaper and shipping included again.

I have to disagree about the service plan.

I would go for the service plan on any new tv. We bought a Samsung DLP less than 2 years ago and the bulb went bad twice. And then the light engine went out. Instead of them fixing our existing tv when the light engine went out, they let us go to the store and pick out a new tv (of equal value) to replace it.

(This was under the best buy service plan.)

I have had terrible experiences with protection plans. Most of them resulting in Best Buy or circuit city telling me to go pound sand and to contact the manufacturer.

you seem like you're into the best of the best and if so, either Pioneer if you really want to go over the top or Panasonic.

I no longer work there, but my employee discount is still active. We can hook up and you can simply order it via the web if you'd like.

You wont' get any better than Panasonic unless you dish out the Pioneer bucks and I wouldn't suggest that even if you have it to dish out.

65" 1080P Panasonic $5,761

Personally, I'd go 58" at only $3,201

The above are the Pro models with Pro-Setting & Studio Reference Modes as well. These units are among the very best in reliability and are in their 11th year of Plasma builds. Second in PQ only to Pioneer and that's splitting hairs. Check with any pro shops that do calibrations on other units and they will tell you the skinny.

I love our units. PM me if you have any questions.

i'd say spring for the few extra bucks for a well known brand. Vizio, Olevia, LG...these brands are fairly new companies...sure people have them and have no problems, but they've also only had the tv for maybe 1yr or so...you shouldn't be having problems from any brand tv in such short time.

i'm not saying these brands are bad, but i myself would rather give them time to iron out bugs, or see if they even last without going under or being bought out. but tv's are similar to cars, out of 10...2 will be lemons, 6 will be normal, and 2 will be freaks and run forever.

i myself am partial to Sony, yes i know they're over-priced, but i have a Sony monitor that is going on 10yrs old and is on 24/7 365 and is just now starting to take 'warming up' before the colors normalize, then it runs strong.

also a 53" big screen, the 4:3 kind you cant find anymore...knock on wood it has been wonderful for the past 9 years, never been serviced or had a glitch yet, even after being moved to 5 different places including a trip to Florida.

if i had the money, i love the Sony SXRD DLP's....friend of mine has a 60"+ and it is CRISPY.
