I have an idea I'd like to patent, is this what I would be looking for also? My thought basically involves incorporating an existing technology into another, in a way never done before. I can't do it, but it's never been done, so I'd like rights to it :). Anybody know how do go about doing so?

o/t...were you on 71s yesterday, just before noon-ish?

I'm in the process of trademarking a business model. To have a patent attorney do a trademark search (make sure my idea isn't already copyrighted by someone else or another company) took $3k. To actually take a business model from ideas on paper to the trademark will be another $8k-$10k, depending on how many times the Patent Office comes back to you for revisions to your idea to make it unique. Obviously more revisions means more lawyer time.

Or...you can self-teach yourself how to patent a product/trademark a process on http://www.uspto.gov. Not a difficult process and I am looking to do this myself...
