ok...need to buy a new digital camera before vacation. mine is 4 years old, batteries die quickly, pics are so-so...g/fs got dropped (my mistake), and ever since, the flash randomly works correctly. sometimes i get a picture so dark i cant make out anything, others its so bright i think im at the pearly gates.

i want to find something around 350$ or less. have to be able to buy it as bestbuy, as i got a 50$ gift card there that i want to be able to use. doesnt need to be tiny to carry in a pocket. i do want to be able to take great pictures, and great macro shots... no or verry little shudder (sp?) delay would be great...i found a few that look to be good deals...thoughts?

and i dont know if any of these have the option to add a different lens for different pictures. i dont think im into photography THAT much yet, but maybe down the road, it would be nice to upgrade...

Check out http://www.dpreview.com and http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRICE5.HTM

I like both for reviews of cams. I'm a bit out of touch with the ones in this range, but quickly reviewing the ones show on the above link, I would say Canon PowerShot S5 IS or step up just a bit more and get the G9.

I'm a DSLR fan myself, but there is definitely a place for non DSLR's and vacations for non-photo gurus is one of them.

Both sites offer full view samples for you to check out.

I'm biased, but I really like canon and that powershot will make you happy. I think they are up to the model S5 IS now and its a great camera and is a very entry level DSLR. Not a true DSLR, but you can attach lenses if you want and they have full manual capability.

The canon in the link is very good also. I'm just familiar with the S1 thru 5 models.

I'm sure Nikon makes great ones too, but my experience has been with canon for many years.

Yeah thats the one. Also if your into it you can search CHDK on wikipedia and they have a site on there that will have all kinds of firmware hacks that can make your canon point and shoot into a very powerful tool for advanced scientific shots and other neat things.

well, before buying, did some shopping...best buy in store = 349.99. best buy online = 332.49 (5% off). circuit city in store = 349.99, circuit city online (which instore will match) 299.99.

going to see if i can get best buy to match circuit city's online price of 299.99. that would be awesome

im impatient. lol

best buy would not match circuit city's price, so i told the guy i was going to go buy it there, save my 35$ over their online price and i would be back to buy memory cards with my 50$ gift card. got it for 320$ with tax included at CC, went back to BB and got 2 kingston 4GB memory cards for it

now i need to learn to use it

Its a great camera and has all the different modes for most family trip photography, auto, portrait, night portrait, several different semi auto lighting conditions (indoor, snow, etc..)

Very easy to use and the manual mode would allow you to get some really nice shots in a more difficult environment such as a cave tour or some place that doesn't allow flash photography.

I ended up upgrading from my S2 IS to a full Canon 40D DSLR because I'm getting way hooked on photography and I'll be able to do way better deep space shots with it once all the adapters come in the mail.

I have the Nikon D40 and LOVE it, by far the best Digital camera that I've ever owned (although it's a D-SLR) honestly dude, pony up the extra money and get that or the similar... if not, I have a Fuji S700 that I could make you a good deal on when I get back from Vegas :)

I recommend the Nikon. Target right now could have a better price deal than Best Buy. I believe there Nikon is $379.99. If you were to open a target credit account or debit account (credit account there can help boost credit rating if necessary) that would take 10% off the price, making it a $342.00 (+ tax) brand new camera.

CANON powershot sd1000 7.1 megapixels

i have always had sony cameras until i started using my girlfriends canon and i was so impressed i pretty much stole it and she had to buy me one for my birthday. and my sister liked it so much she bought the same one as well.

it has very good and easy to use ISO controls which is important cuz no good pictures use a flash.

it's small and turns on fast, also i have dropped it many times and and it atill works perfectly fine.

also my sig pic was taken with that camera :)
