When I was just a little guy, my dad bought a '68 GTO. The Pre-Judge model; same body style, just a little more understated. It was a 6.5L with the Hurst-shifted 4-on-the-floor, black with red vinyl inside. Vacuum-operated headlight louvers, hood scoops. It was the coolest car I'd ever known.

He sold it when I was 15; I guess to keep me from killing myself. Because I probably would have.

Looked pretty much just like this, only with red seats.

The first time I saw the music video of ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man and saw the Ford Eliminator is when I fell in love with cars. My favorite hot wheels though were camaros and firebirds. Oh and my walls were filled of posters of the Countach and 1981 style Porsche 911's

This was my first automotive love. 1990 BMW 750iL. Almost sold my Z to keep it in the family. But decided the Z would be harder to come by again in the future.

Well I was one of those kids that grew up under my Dad's cars. I can remember working on my Dad's Jeep and being smaller then the tires. I still love the Jeep (he still has it), but what started it for me was my Sonoma that my Dad helped me buy when I was 17. Not very unique or fast, but I loved to work on it and make it look better. I have since moved on to a much faster car, but I still daily drive an S10 and I doubt it will be my last.

I know someone who has a delorean, and my mom and some of her friends test drove one when they came out and accidentally locked the keys in it... I guess they had a really hard time popping the lock on it. lol

I took my first step into the framerail of my grandpa's 32 ford, and never looked back lol. what really did it for me was my first car, 67 cutlass, it was stock, 36,000 miles and in mint shape when i found it in 96, i worked all summer and saved up half of the $3800 the guy wanted for it and my dad covered the other half. i then proceeded to get tboned on high the first time i drove it up to columbus. i never even had a chance to get a good pic of the car. But i knew the few times i got to drive it that cars were what i wanted to get into, and have been basicly my life up till now...

I've allways loved cars, my uncle used to street race his Judge every weekend and him and my dad would spend the next week fixing what ever broke. But I didnt have a clue how to work on a car untill i blew up the motor in my saturn..we rebuilt it with some little upgrades and it was fun for a saturn..then i got my DSM and learned how to turn a wrench real quick...but theres somthing about the sound of a spooling turbo that made me fall in love..I guess you could call it a love hate relationship!!

Ah, to reflect upon the formative influences on a young mind ....... :)

Although I recall toy cars, models, Matchbox cars, and the like, something which stands out in my memory was what had to be the best Christmas present ever: The Playmobile. As I look back, my parents must have made a number of sacrifices to be able to buy me one and keep batteries in it.

It had it all: working windshield wipers, horn, turn signals, ignition with motor sound. The speedo, gauges, clock, visors, rearview mirror, radio and heater controls all moved. This was all ubertrick for the late 1950's. I remember driving it for what must have been the equivalent of 100,000 play-miles.

I suppose every car I've driven since has to, at some level, live up to the standard set by that thing. So you see, this car obsession, it really is my parents' fault .....

Lamborghini Espada S-3. I was 6 years old, sitting in the rear seat of my Mom's Audi Fox wagon. We were on I-270 southbound, just about to go over the bridge over Big Walnut Creek (on the East side, just south of the 70-270 interchange) when one of these, could even be THIS car, passed us at about 75mph (this is back in the bad old 55-mph days), then dropped it into 3rd and stood on it. I'll never forget the sound of that V-12.......shivers down the spine.
