SPLN SUX
Better question: Why are we not seeing more 1/4mile cars using turbine engines? Lag... worse than a turbo... but you can run it on kerosene.
GonneVille
Lag... worse than a turbo... but you can run it on kerosene. Actually not. The problem Chrysler had with lag that killed the Turbine car project was related to the transmission, not the motor. What you might be referring to, though, isn't lag, but the natural behavior of a turbine. They make more power the faster they spin. At low RPM, they produce very little power. That's why turbines usually only get used for applications where they run at a constant high rpm, like aircraft or power generation.

Spin up time is way slower on those because unlike a simple compressor on a turbo, a turbine engine has several, and there is an awful lot of rotational inertia there. Your analogy, while correct to an extent, is better used to describe a ramjet, or even a scramjet, not a turbojet.
Rally Pat
Jay Leno's team is working on a mid engined car based on a Corvette frame to match his bike. There are videos of it on his website. Do a google search for "Eco Jet". You start it with jet fuel, and run it with B100 Biodiesel.
CHERRY
I knew that Leno had one of those bikes but I thought that his Techs built it for him. Thanks for pointing that out. Chuck

Mopar
Chrysler solved their lag issues with the turbine car in 65. They redesigned certain parts to make it more powerful and up mileage. The reason the car wasn't mass produced, was the economic factor. By the time the 3rd gen engine was produced, they realized there would be no market for it. There was an in-depth write up on it in mopar muscle a couple years ago.
