Wonderboy
So as some of you know, I bought JelloMan's (Clark) FC's. One is gutted with a full cage and no drivetrain. The other runs (rough) and is the parts donor. So far I fixed a vac leak on the driver and it now runs a little smoother but, not much. Im going to just drive the car as is for a while so that I can get a little more comfortable with the car and RWD. Last night I got a small start on the caged car. I started to go through the wiring in the car so that I can re-run everything. I was able to find where a few things go but, I still have a bunch of work to do with it. I also found quite a few cut wires that I have no idea where they came from. I plan on using nice color coded wiring diagrams thanks to Mitchell to help figure out where the rest of this shit goes. I also took care of a spot in the engine bay where the master cylinder was leaking and had caused some fairly minor surface rust. I sanded back down to the metal and coated with some rattle can paint. While I was in there I found another rust spot that I didnt see before and it doesnt look too bad so it should be an easy fix just like the other spot. I also decided to fit the rear carpet around the roll cage since it was a nice easy little job to do. Thats all I got for now. I will update once I get some more done. These are the ones I got from Clark. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/rx7.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/rx72.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/rx78.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/rx73.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/rx74.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/rx77.jpg
Wonderboy
Here are some of the engine bay where I sanded down some rust on the frame and the bottom half of the brake booster. I still want to put a few more coats on just to make sure it wont some back. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092241.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092241a.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092258.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092259.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092259a.jpg
Wonderboy
Here are some interior shots. You can see all the wiring that is currently giving me some headaches. I got a buddy who is really good with electrical stuff coming over tonight or tomorrow. We'll get this shit tackled pretty quickly Im hope. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092302a.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092302.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092301a.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0328092301.jpg
Wonderboy
The first one is with the rear carpet cut and fitted to the cage. The second one was my first attempt at a drivetrain. It dropped right in and fired right up but, didnt last too long... I forgot to feed him. Also, see what he's holding? Those are my headers for a 302 swap. (thanks clark) http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0329090016.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0327092115.jpg For those who were wondering, its and Alex swap with VTAK! Linc5.0
what motor u putting in?
neonkiller
If your going 302 you might want to get or take my old block off your hands and when you get your grannys sub frame witch I think thats what your doing you can lower the subframe with some fab work so you can fit a TurboII hood on you car and shut the hood.... Trust me might as well do it now then have to wait. If I were you I would get a bare block when your subframe is in and then build some mock up boxes as to where and how tall your carb will fit on top of the blaock and go from there, unless you want her to hang out the hood. Heres a pic of a carbed motor and the hole they had to cut http://home.comcast.net/~cvetters3/rx7f.jpg just a thought.
Wonderboy
what motor u putting in? Probably 302. Its seems to be the most cost effective. Im trying to keep this pretty cheap.
Wonderboy
Im not too worried about the engine and hood clearance stuff just yet. Its gonna be a while before I can afford to do any of that. Ive got a couple tubs full of parts that I still gotta put on, so IM gonna do all my free stuff first. I may get in contact with you for that block. I just dont have extra cash for it right now.

boosted98gst
why not cut the rust out and replace? thats the only real way to get rid of it.
Wonderboy
why not cut the rust out and replace? thats the only real way to get rid of it. It was very minor. I was able to get it down to clean metal. Mostly just surface rust, there was some very slight pitting in one spot but Im not too worried about it. The car will stayed stored out of the elements and Ill keep an eye on it. Plus I dont have a welder or the skills/ money to do it that way. Wonderboy
So I got the wiring re-routed in the car and got the dash fitted. Here is with the dash brace installed and you can see some of the wiring and shit still sprawled out. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0330092201.jpg Here is after everything was ran and I zip tied the unused ECU and HVAC wiring to the firewall in case I ever want to use it in the future. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0330092214.jpg Here's a good pic of all the wiring being tidied up and the wires on the driver side all wrapped up. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0330092254.jpg
Wonderboy
Here is the dash as I was taking it apart. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0330091805.jpg Here is after the vents and bracing is all pulled out. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0330091809.jpg I decided to peel back the dash pad so I wouldnt fuck it all up while trimming the dash to fit around the cage. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0330091839.jpg So I set the dash in the car and noticed that it looked like the cage bars lined up well with the little side vents on the dash, so I decided to notch out that area and see if it would just slide in place, and , it did! http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0402091619.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0402091630a.jpg
Wonderboy
So here it is with the dash pad back over it and it looks great. The bars fit through the holes perfectly! I am very pleased right now. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0402091739.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0402091740.jpghttp://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0402091741.jpg
Wonderboy
Here's a pic of the custom heater core/ defrost box that Tinman made. This thing fits amazingly well. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0402091821.jpg I Installed the storage bins and a few pieces on the dash, starting to get a good idea of how this will look when its done. Im happy things are going so smoothly. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff241/mx3onfalkens/0402091946.jpg So, I decided that Tinman is fucking amazing. As Im putting these pieces back in this car and seeing how well they were fitted and made, I am super impressed. I still cant believe that the cage fit just right through the vents so well. Tinman
I completely forgot about that heater core and fan set up, glad you like it. Just be forewarned, it's only meant to defog the windshield, those fans can only push so much air. If I remember correctly it did save roughly 10lbs. though. wnaplay1647545503
Damn dude, I honestly thought when I read you were doing these projects, that it would be a long drawn out process with alot of feet dragging. Looks like your moving along and forging ahead. Looking good. Thanks. Yeah, Im super excited about this build and Im one of the most impatient people so It should all be together fairly quickly. The only bad part is that Ill have all the interior and body together and then the car is just gonna sit until I can afford an engine and trans. Hopefully I can come across some extra cash soon. Oh yeah, and to make this build even better, Im doing it in a tiny ass single car garage and Ive got shit EVERYWHERE! Hopefully we'll be in the new house when engine and trans time comes.
