the original definition is a poser. someone trying to ride beyond their capabilities. when I hear the word I connect it with that. If Nicky Hayden decided to take a few quick laps around the track with no gear, he would not be a squid, because that is well within his range of capabilites, but if joe blow with no experience did, trying to show off his skills, (which don't exist) he would be a squid.
