My first gun

Picked this up about a week ago as a graduation/first job present to myself. I've been wanting to start building a collection for quite some time now but just couldn't afford it while going to school.

Anyways, it's a Yankee Hill Machine Co 5.56 AR. I had originally planned on just getting a bare bones DPMS and building it up, but Vance's had a decent price on this one and it already had almost everything I wanted. I've shot about 600 rounds through it so far without any problems. Can't wait till spring so I can kill something other than paper!

I saw a guy in Vance's not to long ago that looked to be about 17 or 18 with what appeared to be his grandmother purchasing what looked to be very similar to what you have here, I thought to myself great here comes another High School shooting. Hope this wasn't you, nice pick up, my M4 use to look very similar to that.

Shit, I'm old to be graduating from college when I did... let alone high school. I think I paid $1180 for it? I hadn't heard of YHM before I saw it in Vance's ad but the reviews on AR15.com were all positive. The fit and finish on everything is top notch, and yes the barrel is fluted.

Nice AR. That looks like a pretty tactikewl AR right there, with everything I'd expect to see over on mall-ninja ar15.com (no offense). $1180 isn't too bad of a price either. What kinda of groups are you getting?

Does zombie season start in the spring or something? What are you planning on hunting?

None taken, I've always been a bit of a ricer.;) I was getting about a 3" grouping at max range at BW (~75'?) just standing there. Shot about 1.5" with iron sights resting my elbow at the same distance. Hopefully I'll be able to improve upon that with more experience. As for the hunting it'll probably just be rodents, computers, and the occasional home invader.

On a side note, I got to see some guy glock the shit out of his thumbs at BW; he was leaking all over. Pretty sure he was a first time shooter... he was there with his mom using her gun.

I've shot it and I'll confirm that the YHM there is pretty rad and tacticool. The EOTech kicks ass.

I'll use my recent first gun purchase to hijack the thread:

Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded SS

Here's an experiment I did with painting the white dot sights with super glow in the dark powder. Only took about $12 and I figured it was worth trying over spending like ~$100 for tritiums. The pictures don't really do justice as the cheapass camera had trouble in such low light:
