Bilge Work...

I finally got some time (and cooperative weather) to work on the Formula. I am getting the bilge ready for paint. Today I got it all washed down and did a general assessment of how its going to go. Basically, it's going to be a bitch to do. But, it needs it so I will suck it up.

First to be worked on was the hatch. I got the hatch off and separated it from the sun pad. I got it all stripped of the hardware and sanded it down just enough to rough it up some. The product I am using is call Bilgekote by Interlux. This stuff is pretty easy to work with. I picked it because it is known for being VERY easy to work with, extremely durable, and can be applied virtually by any means you can think of. I rolled it on. I had read it lays down extremely well and boy did it. It looks like it was sprayed on. It covered great. I will probably go back and do one more coat, but I could easily get by with just one.

After that I started working on the bilge itself and did not get too far before dark came. More to come on this later.

Here are some pics. I know, not very exciting. But hey, it's progress.

The hatch on the boat. Obviously an old picture as that engine is long gone.

Ever thought about doing side exit exhausts?..

That would look good, but damn - that's alot of work to change to. I do like them though on some of the other boats out there.

I do still have thru-hull's though.

(Please excuse the ugly trailer)

I got some more work done on my bilge. I got half painted with the first coat. It got too dark before I could snap some pics. I will get them posted tomorrow. It is a bitch to be this big and have to work in that little ass area.

I can't wait to get out there!

Ok, here are some pics.

This is a pic from before the last engine went in. Before the boat was ever repainted. I didn't get a pic of it before I started. So this one is just for reference.

I am pulling everything off of the walls instead of trying to trim and cut in around this stuff. I love this paint. It lays down perfectly flat and looks like it was sprayed on. It looks like it will be extremely durable and super easy to clean up.

I have one side done. I just need to remount everything and start on the other side. Its all a huge mess. I am cleaning up the wiring while I am in there and putting it all in wire loom.

I am still trying to decide what to do with the actual bilge where the engine goes. It is kinda black now, but I'm not sure if I want to keep it black or make it gray too.

Some more work done. Don't mind the wiring mess. All of it is being cleaned up/replaced as I go. I am also putting it all in new wire loom.

Last one for today. I needed to get out of the bilge for a while, so I wired up the rest of my lights. Yes, I am obsessed with LED lighting on trailers and yes, my blackberry's camera sucks.

I'll get some pics sunday of the trim bracket we made and have used quite a few of, mounts on the transom, cleans up the floor a ton. I spaced mine out and have it back lit with red LED's.

Also mount the shifter on the transom, As you have found the motor will come out more often than planned, anything that gives you less work is a plus in my book. I have just finished a bracket that hides mine beneath the lip under the hatch, you can only see the cable that goes down to the drive.

Get the plexi idea out of your head, EVERY boat I have seen with it has cracks across it. Best case idea is aluminum and have me chrome vinyl it.

Nice to see you finally got rid of the Y pipe, get rid of the blower too, its not legally required and there is no hose that looks nice, they all look like ass.

Shanton, a boat with a motor I did is the fastest side exhaust boat on alum as far as I know. Side exhaust sucks. It sounds bad, its sneezes water all over you when tying up, louder than hell in the boat, best bet is S pipes with under water exhaust, its not too bad when running, quiet in marinas, and 100% legal with the sound law.

And a trailer can't be lit up enough!!! Mine would light up the dark side of the moon!

Send me some pics...I want to do this. Unless you are going to come help me put it in. Then we can just rig it then. ;)

Also, what LED's did you go with to light up back there? I have seen alot of people just using undercar LED tubes that you can change the lighting on or make them flash with the music.

Mine isn't cracked, It just has some scratches on it from where the hatch has been removed so many times. Can you wrap my existing plexi?

Y-Pipe has been gone since the last motor went in. I thought blowers were needed (legal or not) to not blow myself up from gas fumes?

Steve's boat? I still want it. I saw he is selling it.

Im a lighting freak myself! Love it.

I was once told/read that us trailer haulers with our light fetishes are like bikers and tattoo's - you just cant have enough, even if not needed.
